The Messenger of Death

Chapter 264: the doors

With streaks of lightning tearing through the air, Alex rushed towards the marked spot that he picked.

Since the day that he grasped one of the fundamental natures of lightning, his lightning had gotten stronger, faster, and also harder to control. Despite the rigorous training that he went through a month ago, his control over the lightning element was still below standard.

However, that wasn't what was on his mind at the moment, he just wanted to arrive at the marked spot as soon as possible.

['Be careful on your way. Think before you act, don't let your impatience overpower your decisions.'] Lex advised. Although Alex was making progress in his growth as a person, Lex wasn't completely confident that he had outgrown the childish side of him.

Knowing that what Lex was saying was for his own good, Alex didn't refute or complain, he listened and took a mental note of his advice.

The marked spot that Alex picked was the one farthest away from the village, the location and distance were also why he chose this spot. Alex is the fastest in his team, if he had designated this spot to someone else, they might not arrive early enough.

Roughly after 40 minutes, Alex arrived in the vicinity of the spot that he picked. This place was also a desert, but the sand of this part of the desert deferred from the rest. Strangely, the sand here was white and glistering.

It looked like the desert had been replaced with salt. Ignoring the weirdness of the sand, Alex scouted the area that he was. Surprisingly, a structure that resembled the buried one that he ventured into earlier today, was standing erect and not buried in the desert sand right before him.

This building looked like it was made with black bricks and clay. The ceilings, walls, door, and floor all looked like they were made with the same materials.

What shocked him was that while he was on his way here, he couldn't see the structure. Even when he arrived in the vicinity of the marked spot, he wasn't able to see the structure, this was only possible when he decided to scout the area.

"Am I hallucinating?" Alex questioned. He used the skin crawler's infrared to confirm the existence of the structure.

Although using infrared on the building wouldn't show any heat signature, it was the proof that Alex was searching for.

['This should be the place. The academy surely knows about this place.'] Xander commented.

"But they refused to tell us. Forget about it, I will tell Nana about this when we return to the academy." Alex dismissed the topic.

['Alex, be careful. The people here might be different from the ones that you meet in the first marked spot. Remember who grants them their powers, summon Milo to help you.'] From the moment Lex called Milo's name, he started to exit Alex's hand.

Milo took his humanoid form, the first form that he encountered Alex in.

Alex didn't have any complaints, Milo being stronger he was, Milo was only going to make his work easier. "Let's head in." Alex brought the silver spear and began approaching the entrance of the building.

Unlike the first entrance that he saw in the first marked spot that he went to, there were no guards here. It looked like an abandoned building with spider webs everywhere on the doors of the entrance.

"It doesn't look like they use this part of the structure, the entrance looks like it has been closed for a long time now.

Alex said as he attempted to push the huge double black doors of the building. The doors didn't budge one bit. "It sturdy." Knocked on the doors a few times and a feeling of Déjà vu hit him.

"The last time I felt something this sturdy was in that underground bunker in the academy."

To confirm his thought, Alex readied himself and punch the door.

-Boom!!

The doors shook and the dust that it had accumulated over the years fell, clouding the entrance. Despite the strength that was put in that punch, the doors did not break, or show any sign of opening.

"Why was this spot marked on that stupid map? I don't think I can open the door." Alex frowned, he felt as if he had wasted his time coming to this site.

Right before he turned, Milo walked to the door and pushed it lightly.

-Thum!!

The huge double black doors, shudder first, then slowly started to open up.

"What!??" Alex's jaw hit the ground. After hitting the door with the strength of a rank-4 nirvana realm cultivator, the doors did not open, yet Milo pushed it lightly and it open. Now Alex knew that Milo was a realm above his, but he refused to believe that the difference between the nirvana cultivation realm and the earth cultivation realm was that big. After all, he had tasted the strength that comes with that realm.

"Milo, how did you do that?" Alex questioned.

Milo shrugged his shoulders, saying that he had no idea of how he accomplished the feat. In the first place, Milo wouldn't have attempted to open the doors, but after seeing that Alex's blow did nothing to the doors he wanted to feel the material that it was made with.

Hence the light push that he gave to the door. Unexpectedly, the doors opened up.

Alex was able to feel Milo's intentions, so he could tell that Milo really didn't know how he managed to open the doors.

Throwing his curiosity to the side, Alex marched into the darkness beyond the now opened doors and Milo followed behind him.

As soon as they stepped, the doors closed; and this didn't particularly worry Alex. Since the day that Lex had been able to teleport, he knew that there were a few things that could serve as an obstacle to him.

Alex tried to use the night vision feature that was in the skin crawler, but after he equipped it nothing changed. The whole area was still dark.

"Could this darkness be unnatural? If not, why else would the night vision not work." Alex pondered on this for a while.

The only thing that could be seen in the darkness was the red lines that appeared on Milo after he initiated a master-pet contract with Alex. But it wasn't bright enough to light the whole area.

Suddenly, Alex recalled that fire was also one of the weaknesses of the darkness element.

Alex formed a little fireball on his palm, and he saw the darkness avoid his flames like it the plague. "This is new." He uttered in amusement.

Alex used the light from his flames to illuminate the area, and then he made it levitate. The levitating fireball then divided itself into three, one by his left and right, and then the last one in front of him and Milo.

Slowly, he and Milo progressed into the darkness. Although he felt as if this place was abandoned, he didn't want to leave without checking the area first. He was afraid of being wrong, doing this was the only way he could prevent issues.

As they progressed Alex began getting impatient, they had been walking around for a good 10 minutes and they haven't met anyone or thing on the way.

"Bola, when does the Baba intend to hold the ceremony. I am tired of waiting." Alex heard a deep voice, complain.

"Aja, I don't know, just because the Baba is my great uncle doesn't mean that I know his plans. I barely talk to the scary old man." Bola responded. She sounded tired and annoyed. "This should be the third time that I am answering this question of yours." She added.

Hearing the voices, Alex quickly put off his fire and placed his back behind the wall. He did this so that he could continue to progress without the light.

"It is not my fault, I cannot wait for our lord, Ogun, to arrive and take over the lower plain realm for us," Aja uttered, sounding eager and excited.

"You are not the only one that can't wait, everything is already in place. Baba just has to start the ritual and offer the sacrifice." Bola stated. "I will be heading back to my position."

"I don't know why I was tasked with guarding this part of the temple, there's no one that opens the gate of darkness in this world," Aja complained as he watched Bola walk away.

As Alex approached the voices, he saw a dim light coming from a corner, and that was when he knew that he was close. He readied his spear. "If only your sacrifice didn't include my friend, I wouldn't have cared about your conquest," Alex whispered.

In no time he reached the end of the darkness and peeped at the hall that had dim light.

There was only one person standing guard there, and it seemed to be the person that was complaining about his post…

"You will die first, unfortunately for you," Alex whispered.
