The Messenger of Death

Chapter 263: killing the informants

The Seraphim team was lost for words as they didn't know what to do. They weren't strong enough to go against a being that is already considered to be a deity.

"Let's head back to that café. We need to speak to those informants, since the beginning I knew that there was something fishy about this mission. Only now do I realize that the fish was a whale." Alex suggested.

With the help of the skin crawler, they trailed their way back to the entrance that they came in from, and then rushed to the café where they conversed with the informants…

Gwen, who was acting as a waitress in the café at the moment, was stunned to see Alex's team return so quickly. She wondered if they have found something important or if they had completed their mission. The latter she doubted the most.

Gwen removed her apron and kept it aside before she made her way to the third floor, where Alex and his teammates were seated. When she arrived, Gwen noticed that they all had a worried expression on their faces.

"You guys returned quite early, did something go wrong?" Gwen questioned.

Right after Gwen asked her question, Janet arrived on the third floor too. "What's wrong? Why did you guys return so early? It hasn't even been a day. Don't tell me that you have something important enough for you to have to report it to us now?" Janet rambled on.

"Something important? Yes, but to whom its importance is vital to, I can't say." Alex tilted his head a bit as he glared at Janet.

Seeing the cold, warmth-less glare that Alex was giving to her, Janet couldn't help but feel the hair at the back of her neck, stand. She shivered internally and purposely avoided Alex's gaze.

"You girls are withholding some important information about this mission to us, spill," Alex uttered coldly.

Gwen frowned and shook and her head, pretending to not know or understand what Alex was talking about. "I'm sorry, I don't understand what you are talking about. We have told you guys all that we could." She responded.

"Yes, you have told us all that you could, but not all that is concerning the mission." Alex pointed out, this time he was glaring at Gwen.

The whole room became silent. The two informants wore a confused look, still refusing to admit that they withheld some information from the Seraphim team.

"We know about the Arugu tribe," Adrian stated.

Gwen and Janet reacted to Adrian's statement and that alone proved to the Seraphim team that they withheld some information.

Knowing that their jig was up, Gwen couldn't help but feel guilty.

"I'm sorry, we couldn't tell you guys about the tribe because the academy forbade it-"

"Why?! Why would they not want us to know what we are dealing with!? We are dealing with an ancient tribe that can summon their god!! Do we look like we can kill a god!? More or less battle one!?" Alex snapped at her.

He was furious with the informants and the academy. His priority and intention were just to check on Camron, to see if he was doing alright. But he hasn't been able to achieve this because of the ridiculous mission that he accepted from the academy.

"I don't know-" Gwen began, she wanted to save some face for herself.

"Tell the academy that we would be dropping the mission. This is above what we can handle." Alex finished and got up and started to walk to the stairs. He had no intentions of staying behind for anything concerning the mission.

Seeing Alex make his way towards the exit, the rest of his team members had nothing against his decision. This wasn't a mission that they could handle. They too got up from their chairs and joined Alex.

"Wait! Wait!! You are not going against the Arugu tribe, that tribe has been exterminated a long time ago. It is true that they used to occupy this part of the western continent many years ago, but they were destroyed by a natural disaster." Gwen began explaining, but her explanation did nothing to stop Alex and the rest.

"The people of the Poduct village are not in any way the descendants of the Arugu tribe people. That tribe didn't need the Ogun's mark before they were able to wield the darkness element. The people of the Poduct village cannot manipulate the darkness element without Ogun's mark.

They too are trying to summon Ogun, just like the Arugu tribe intended to, but they failed. That is why I said that Ogun cannot touch you guys, he cannot escape the seal that he has been cursed with.

People of the Poduct village are also trying to summon him, and they claim to know why the Arugu tribe failed in summoning Ogun, they say that the Arugu tribe were too stingy with their sacrifice, they didn't use the best of sacrifice during their ritual." She added quickly, expecting this to buy a little time from Alex.

['Who is strong enough to seal a god?'] Alex wondered.

['Probably a stronger god.'] Lex answered.

Unfortunately for her, Alex didn't stop nor did he act as if he heard her say anything. Alex and his teammates had already started descending the stairs.

"This concerns a team member of yours, the one that has a one-of-a-kind high affinity with the darkness element," Janet revealed, and this alone was to make all of them stop in their tracks.

Finding out that this concerned Camron's wellbeing put a frown on Alex's face. He turned and climbed up the stairs. He looked at Janet first, then Gwen.

The expression on his face made Gwen sigh in relief internally. She knew that they had his attention at the moment.

"If what you say to me next is a lie, I promise to kill you on the spot." Alex threatened and his killing intent backed it up.

His unrivaled killing intent was at times contagious, it made those around him want to go on a killing spree, and some, it broke their wills and made their knees weak. This killing intent was directed at Gwen and Janet.

"I swear, we, we…" Janet began stammering. "It's the truth. There is a reason why Camron hasn't returned to the academy. He was captured by the people of the Poduct village." Gwen finished for her companion.

She understood why Janet couldn't finish what she was saying, Alex killing intent was just too domineering for them. It was hard for her to get herself together to speak.

"That can't be true." He retracted his killing intent and began to think of the possibility of what they said.

['How can that be? How did they know that Camron was leaving the academy and when to intercept. Unless they had someone spy on him.'] He thought.

['If so, what about his siblings. They also left the academy, were they also taken away?'] Alex thought.

Seeming to know what Alex was thinking about, Gwen immediately responded. "His siblings left the academy 2 days after Camron left."

['So there is an inside man in the academy.'] This confirmed his guess.

"Why didn't the school inform us about this since?" Emma asked angrily. All this while, they all thought that Camron was well when in truth, he had been captured by crazy extremists. This did not only vex Emma, it made the rest of the team members angry too.

"We don't know why the academy didn't inform you guys, but we were instructed not to tell you guys about it, for it might cause irrational decision and ruin the mission," Janet answered. She could feel a strong killing intent from everyone in the Seraphim team, except Gustavo and Alex.

Gustavo didn't have the urge to kill them because he didn't know Camron that well and they barely had any kind of conversation.

Alex didn't have the energy to spare on them at the moment. He was thinking of many possibilities.

"There is still something else that doesn't add up, but I don't care for that now. The main objective of this mission just changed. Fuck that god called Ogun, we will spread out and head to the remaining spots that we haven't hit. Search and kill everyone until we find Camron.

Either way, we will complete this shitty mission and earn the merit points alongside Camron, after all, the objective stated that we should investigate, report, and then solve the problem.

The first two have been taken care of, now all we have to do is solve the problem." Alex voiced out his thoughts.

Emma and the rest of the Seraphim team that had the urge to kill the informants snapped out of their anger and choose to do just as Alex had stated. They all made a mental note to kill the informants if they arrived too late, or if anything had happened to Camron.

They didn't care whether they had been following orders or not.

"Adrian, the map," Drake asked And Adrian wasted no time in bringing it out.

"Drake, Katherine, and Emma, head to this spot." Alex pointed at one of the X-marked spots on the map.

"Adrian and Gustavo, the two of you should head over here." He pointed at another X-marked spot. "And then I will go for the last one." He finished and then used the skin crawler to take a picture of the map.

"Wait Alex, it's meant to be 2 in a group, why did you do it like this?" Katherine wasn't quite satisfied with the arrangements that he made.

"The two of you become more efficient with Emma's help and since you have more experience in battling it will be better if the 3 of you are together. Adrian is fast, so I am not too worried for him, Gustavo is just there to back him up.

I am going alone because everyone here will only slow me down and we don't have time to spare, so leave now." Alex commanded.

He waited for everyone to move out first before he made his move. He turned to the informants and said; "You better hope that we find him alive, if not, you will be joining him where ever he is."

As he threatened, lightning enveloped his body and he vanished from the third floor of the café…
