383 – Her Faith

After the gods declare their judgement, intent on destroying the world – the already chaotic world of the original plunges into swifter collapse.

At the center of this is Celeste.

[All this is the will of the gods.]

Judgement Day.

That day, Celeste receives a special command from the gods and becomes completely corrupted.

Her heart finally broken by the gods’ cruel will, she obediently follows their word with dead eyes. A perfect puppet, intent only on destroying the world.

Especially after learning the full extent of her powers from the gods that day.

Her abilities inherited from the gods – driving other ability users into overload until they self-destruct and die.

In other words, she could control others’ abilities however she wished. Expected, as her primary power came from the Sun God.

With this power, she manipulates all the villains gathered at the Cathedral to further the world’s destruction.

Of course.

This wasn’t the only order Celeste received from the Sun God that day.

Eliminate the child of the stars.

Concretely, not abstractly.

The Sun God directly ordered her to eliminate the one with the Star God’s power.

Unlike his previous cryptic, abstract commands, this was concrete for the first time.

‘…Obviously.’

A person blessed by the Sun God surely couldn’t threaten the Sun God.

Clearly, another god’s avatar – blessed by a different god – could jeopardize his plans.

…And by then, Celeste already knew a fair bit about star-powered individuals from ancient texts. What followed was simple.

[Investigate most light-haired ability users…and eliminate Korea’s Stardust.]

Stardust.

…And Korea would face the full brunt of the Cathedral’s assault.

In the process, most major original characters died.

[Cough…hahahaha…At least I protected this nation to the end…a patriot indeed…cough…]

Association Chairman Park Joon-ho. Dies on site commanding the remaining heroes against the villains’ assault.

[Stardust…no, Haru-ya…live on, you have to…alright?]

Hero Ice Angel. Holds out to the last in the control tower before dying in a bombing.

And more – Electra, killed by her own out-of-control power; senior Kim Chae-hyun, falling to darkness and dying at Stardust’s hand…in short, everyone dies.

And through it all, only Stardust survives.

Thanks to the star’s power protecting her.

…The star’s blessing she absolutely would not relinquish.

Finally. Celeste personally descends.

[Ah…cough…at last, I return to the gods’ side…]

Stardust succeeds in killing even Celeste.

But could that be called success?

With Korea already destroyed and no one left with her?

When everything had crumbled –

Judgement Day arrived at last, and the Sun God descended…

That was the original story.

“Now it’s completely different.”

I said that and grinned crookedly.

…It seemed a grin tinged with anger, but still a grin. Phew. Relax, relax.

Because the Sun God’s plan had gone awry from the start.

…With Stardust much stronger than in the original.

And Celeste on my side from the moment we met.

“So suck it, Sun bozo. Your plan can never succeed.”

I flipped off the sky as I murmured.

The gods can’t see anyway, but if they had been watching me seduce Celeste, I’d have been smited long ago.

Because this world was still protected by the Star God.

“….”

Thinking about that, I grew complicated.

The three primordial gods.

The Sun God, Moon God, and Star God…

…And the Star God was the one who loved this world the most.

The Star God.

In the distant past. Fought the world-destroying Sun God and sealed him away in the far reaches of the universe.

Created cognitive barriers in this world, preventing the gods from casually intervening.

…In the process, exhausted all power and came closest to death.

And also.

The god who had pulled me into this world.

“…Ah.”

Please…only you can…

Tch.

Actually, I don’t have good memories of the Star God.

Kidnapping me into this doomed world, giving me two weak, risky powers with the excuse of having no strength left, then disappearing…

…Of course, when I first arrived and struggled for 3 years, I decided to bury my resentment towards her. Lingering in the past accomplished nothing. I had to live in the present.

Anyway, somehow I had changed the original collapsing world.

“Can’t believe I survived just for Stardust’s sake…and made it this far.”

I murmured with a snort.

Right. Everything was for Stardust’s sake.

I was only able to endure thanks to her, really.

So I had to protect her to the end.

Just then, as I murmured in my room.

*ring*

I got a text.

And of course, opening my phone.

[Egostic…what are you doing?]

…It was from Stardust.

Indeed. She contacted me just when I was thinking about her. Was this another one of her super senses?

Thinking that, I smiled and tapped at my phone.

[I was thinking about Miss Stardust.]

From noble mtl dot com

Just the plain facts.

…After my simplistic text, Stardust didn’t reply for a while. What was that about? Was she busy?

Just then, her response came, as if it was obvious.

[…Really? What a coincidence. I was thinking of you too.]

[(A bear emoji hugging a heart and smiling)]

Seeing her message.

Smiling unknowingly at her response, just then…

‘…?’

I quickly texted her, following some odd premonition I suddenly felt.

[Miss Stardust. Where are you right now?]

And her obvious reply:

[Me? Right in front of your house…]

“What?”

Reading that, I was shocked and hurried outside.

…I had a bad feeling, and it was never wrong.

***

Egostream’s base had gone through quite the evolution.

It started in Seo Eun’s underground basement, connected by a long elevator under an empty house in Seoul.

After living there with Soobin for a while, we moved to the mountain mansion after healer Hayool joined.

In the process, we connected the original basement and mountain mansion with teleporters.

And so a 3-part route was created – mansion – basement – Seoul house. We could teleport from basement to Seoul with one jump.

…Anyway, the conclusion is, I told Stardust about my Seoul house. She should know where I live. The mountain mansion had multiple shields against intruders set up by Seo Eun. And it was too far.

So in front of my Seoul house.

I met with Stardust again after a long time.

…We did briefly see each other outside the Yuseong building last time, but that was too short and had a deathly atmosphere.

“Egostic!”

“Miss Stardust.”

In the sky above my Seoul home.

Wearing her usual red suit, hair fluttering golden as she smiled seeing me and flew straight into my arms…

Stardust hugged me tightly.

“I missed you.”

“Me too, hahahaha.”

Nuzzling into my shoulder, breathing softly, she murmured to me… She seemed set on completely forgetting our ominous encounter at Yuseong.

Right. This reaction was normal.

‘…Wait, normal?’

Stardust hugging me on sight was normal?

Had I gone strange too… Or just gotten used to it.

Just then.

She raised her head from my embrace and looked me in the eye closely.

“Egostic. But you’re not busy today? Can we meet this long?”

Glancing at me tentatively, she asked hesitantly.

…Seeing her like that, I smiled wryly.

I had been pretending to be busy for so long. Well, I was busy… Anyway.

‘Right.’

Not much time left before the gods’ judgement plunged the world into chaos.

I should meet her more in this brief period of peace.

Thinking that.

I smiled and opened my mouth.

“Yes, I have time today. We can spend it together if you’re free, Haru-shi.”

“Really?”

Seeing her eyes light up, I also smiled lightly.

…And I should tell her too, on this chance.

About how the gods would soon throw the world into chaos.

***

We enjoyed a date all day.

And at the end.

I calmly told her the truth about what was to come.

“Soon, the gods will declare the world’s destruction. The world will likely fall into chaos.”

At a pier facing the crimson sunset sea.

Gazing at the scarlet dyed coast, not meeting her eyes, I spoke.

How would she react?

…In the original upon hearing the gods’ judgement, Stardust had nearly lost her mind. Blaming the world, falling into despair, she had shed a single tear.

Would she react like that this time?

Just as I wondered that…

…her reaction was unexpected.

“Is that so?”

She replied casually as if it was nothing.

Then she said in a slightly amused tone.

“Then…Egostic, you must have a plan again, right?”

Hearing her say that to me.

“…Yes, that’s right.”

A bit surprised by her reaction, I replied, unconsciously glancing at her face.

“Then that’s fine.”

I saw her smiling expression.

After smiling at the sea, she now smiled looking at me.

Flipping back her golden hair shining in the sea’s reflection, she laughed and replied.

“Egostic. Since you’re here, you must have a plan again, right? So. I believe in you. I’ll do as you say.”

…Unlike the original, she spoke while smiling.

She was clearly relying on me, which was surely unhealthy.

Yet for some reason.

…I too was smiling, and saying this:

From noble mtl dot com

“Yes, just believe in me.”

…I did.

And with that final exchange, after watching the sea a bit more, we parted.

“…And Egostic.”

“Yes?”

“I thought about it more. Only up to 2! No more!”

“…Huh??”

…With those incomprehensible final words, we separated.

I couldn’t understand her last statement at all, apparently…
