382 – The Dwindling Time

Having finished all my schedules, I was spending some rare leisure time after returning to the mansion.

…I was still working on Cathedral business on my laptop, but more casually.

Sitting at the picnic table in the front yard, feeling the breeze, sipping iced tea while working – it felt relaxing in body and spirit.

Thanks to Shinryeong’s atmospheric manipulation beside me, lounging on a sunbed in sunglasses, the weather in the area was fixed to a pleasant spring-like climate, making this possible.

I was sitting there, thinking about the recent call from Seol-a.

[Phew…Anyway, I succeeded in getting Haru to believe me.]

Sure enough, Haru had gone straight to Seol-a after leaving me.

And she had somehow persuaded the furious Haru, it seemed.

I was relieved.

We agreed to be more careful meeting up, and ended the call.

[And Dain, you really should thank me…for the effort I’m making alone…sigh…]

At the end, I thought I heard her say something in a small voice, but didn’t catch it properly.

Just then, as I was thinking about that.

“I don’t like it.”

Beside me.

Sitting back on her chair, arm slung over the backrest, Seo Eun said sulkily.

“You’ve been so busy lately, not home much.”

Complaining like that, she rested her chin in her hand and gazed at the forest, murmuring.

“I want to spend time with you. I like you.”

“…hahahaha.”

I smiled awkwardly at Seo Eun’s words.

After the group confession led by Soobin last time, Seo Eun had become oddly honest and direct like this sometimes.

I smiled awkwardly and answered.

“Seo Eun-ah, there’s quite an age gap between us…”

“What’s so big about 6 years? We’re practically peers. I’m a 2-year adult now!!”

Seo Eun shot back, as if frustrated with me.

…I shut my mouth at that. I see…I guess so. No, what am I thinking. Have I gone mad.

I probably should have just said I was seeing Stardust now, but some instinct made me clamp my mouth shut, feeling that would cause serious trouble.

Anyway, as I stayed silent.

Seo Eun heaved a big sigh, then gazed at the forest again and murmured.

“Anyway…I’ve been feeling this way lately. Everyone’s so busy. My sisters ascended…”

Just then, as Seo Eun spoke.

The sky flashed in front of the forest, and I heard.

“Hah! Try and stop this!”

Along with that voice, a giant lightning bolt appeared in the sky.

…It was Choi Sehee and Eunwol training in the forest, with Halo.

Since I’d told them I’d soon start attacking heroes again, they were honing their skills in preparation.

“…Anyway, I worry about you. Instead of getting better with time, the world just gets more chaotic. Even after stopping the Lunar Church, I thought things would finally calm down, but now all these superhumans are running wild…you keep getting busier too. When will we relax carefreely?”

Seo Eun spoke worriedly.

…Surprisingly, it was an accurate assessment of the current situation.

What Seo Eun didn’t know, of course, was that it was a miracle society was even functional at this point.

‘…What was happening around now in the original?’

Seoul destroyed. New Seoul destroyed. The country practically a post-apocalypse story. With all the major cities in ruins, unlike now with my interference, Korea was directly hit with Hanuel Group, the Demon King’s return, the Lunar Church, the mass prison break.

That was how the original went.

Bleak developments showing that no matter how bad things got, they could always get worse.

When you think the world is ruined enough, it gets even more ruined.

Of course.

That future was now avoided, thanks to me.

And I had to make sure it never happened.

…So unfortunately for Seo Eun, I would only get busier.

Especially with ‘that incident’ coming up.

After that day, all the chaos until now would seem like child’s play…as if social collapse was nothing, society would become paralyzed with unprecedented chaos.

So before that day came…now was, relatively speaking, the last period of peace. At least society was still functioning properly.

I would enjoy this final calm before the storm…

Just then.

“hehehe, were you bothering Dain again, Seo Eun?”

“Huh? Ah, no I wasn’t…!”

“Why so loud~ Dain, I brought some fruit, have some. You too, Seo Eun.”

With a waft of lavender, flipping back her brown hair and wearing a cardigan, Soobin came up behind us holding a fruit tray.

Smiling, she set down the fruit tray. I smiled back and thanked her.

“I should be thanking you. While Dain works so hard, all I can do is this much…I’m sorry.”

Still smiling, Soobin said that.

Then with a small sigh, she headed over with water bottles and towels to where Sehee and Jayoung were sparring.

Watching her go, I felt complicated.

“Hmm hmm~”

Behind me, the cheerful humming of Death Knight ajusshi doing garden work in a red apron, waving huge clippers.

I found myself looking around at our Egostream members.

…To expand my forces upon falling into this world, and to prevent its destruction, I had gathered these comrades.

Seo Eun, Soobin, Hayool, Sehee, Eunwol, Jayoung, Death Knight ajusshi and Shinryeong…

At first, I didn’t have any particular feelings. I brought them together solely to save Stardust and the world. I had no personal attachment. Having them live together was to bring them closer too.

But…as time passed together.

Now, at the end of the world, I realized.

They had become irreplaceable precious people to me before I knew it.

I had come to unconsciously wish for their happiness.

“…Seo Eun-ah, I’ll head in first.”

“Huh? Already?”

“Yeah. I have plans to make…”

I replied and walked firmly towards the mansion where my room was.

I would absolutely stop the world’s destruction by the gods.

I would continue living happily with them.

No matter what.

With that determination.

I entered the mansion.

Once inside my room, the first thing I did…

Was take out a certain thick notebook from my bookshelf.

The book where I had written down all my knowledge of the original before losing my memories, sealed by the Devil’s power.

I opened the notebook to the first page.

“..I’ve come a long way.”

And so, I slowly went over the original story, recalling the path I had walked.

Eliminating villains like Teleporter, Crocodile Man, Scream Maker, Weapon Master…

Stopping the destruction of the southern peninsula by the monster Behemoth, and preventing Hanuel Group, the final boss of Phase 1, from destroying the country with their weapons.

Afterwards, recruiting original villains like Seo Eun, Soobin, healer Hayool, Electra…

Foiling Eunwol the Lunar Maiden’s attempt to destroy Seoul, defeating the Lunar Church’s monsters when they appeared early…preventing the Demon King’s return…

Finally, stopping Phase 2’s final boss, the Lunar Pope, from destroying the world by opening Gates all over in the Cataclysm…

Thwarting the mass prison break, strategically sending away The Granter who was the true final boss of Phase 3…

Somehow evading all these seeds of destruction, and finally arriving here.

“…”

Going over the past this way, I slowly flipped through the phases.

Finally.

…I had almost reached the end of the notebook.

The final chapter, it said here.

“…The true beginning approaches.”

I murmured quietly as I turned the page.

Phase 4.

The Sun God’s revival, and his destruction of the world.

The goal of this final chapter – stopping the god trying to destroy the world.

Changing the doomed conclusion of this world in the original, with my own power.

And soon.

‘That incident’ was about to occur, announcing the start of Phase 4 and origin of all chaos.

Judgement Day, when the gods directly reveal to all humanity that they will destroy this world.

Its arrival was imminent.
