Game’s Dogma

Chapter 261: Three in One

The humongous shield was over three metres in height, almost like a wall that connected the earth and heavens. Before the wall, Bloodless Bladesters felt as if he was a mere mortal who dared to challenge a god.

This was the skill cast by the paladin skill master during The Siege.

Firefly’s eyes were full of determination. Encounter quests? She needed none of that. With her exceptional foresight and unyielding attitude, she became who she was now without relying on luck.

The shield suddenly bulldozed forwards—Holy Bash! Instead of defending, Firefly went on the offensive with War God’s Blessings.

Bloodless Bladester acknowledged her courage and skill; she was the strongest female fighter he had ever fought. No, that was being unfair to her; gender didn’t matter.

Regardless of gender, she was already a top-notch fighter in the game. Collis, who got arrogant because of his encounter quest skill, was miles weaker than her.

Weighty Arrow itself was a powerful skill, but over-dependence on the skill had made him neglect his technique, which was placing the cart before the horse. No matter how powerful Weighty Arrow was, it only mattered if he could hit the enemy. Yet Collis had never really practised his shooting skills to hone his accuracy. He never landed a shot on Bloodless Bladester the entire time; Underworld’s Soulsmith could hit one in five shots even if Bloodless Bladester dodged with his best effort.

Gender and identity were of no importance in the game. All that mattered was strength, and the difference between the weak and the strong was apparent.

Bloodless Bladester was a tiny ant before the towering shield. However, the dim, bloody aura on his sword gave chills to everyone who witnessed it, not losing out to the shield in the slightest.

He had no intention of falling back either. His friendly look was nowhere to be seen, replaced by that of a fervent warrior. He roared and slashed his sword horizontally—his movement was slow, as if his sword weighed thousands of kilograms. A huge, crimson arc of crimson broke off from the blade and shot forth while he slumped to the ground.

Firefly was startled when she saw the sword aura behind her shield.

True Crescent Aura? That’s it?

True Crescent Aura was a heavy hitter, but that was it.  Drako Yau had designed War God’s Blessings to be a skill that turned paladins into the sturdiest shield that could fend off ten enemies alone for ten seconds. With War God’s Blessings active, True Crescent Aura alone wasn’t a threat at all.

Just a single True Crescent Aura?

Still, no matter how quickly her mind raced, True Crescent Aura struck her shield before she could come up with anything.

The translucent shield that was supposed to be impenetrable shattered like a mirror upon impact. The crimson arc merely shuddered and shrunk slightly before travelling past the broken shield and into Firefly.

Firefly’s final feelings were surprise and confusion. It’s just a Level 28 True Crescent Aura…

Confirming that Firefly had dissipated into white particles, Bloodless Bladester lay on the muddy and battered ground outside the village with his limbs spread out as he gasped for air. Anyone with detection skills would see that he only had a single per cent of Health left. A skill or even a basic attack could kill him.

Bloodless Bladester had indeed inherited Ichor Hon’s Lunar Reflection. Every skill that belonged to Lunar Reflection consumed his Health. It was a style that damaged the cultivator before damaging the enemy, but due to its harsh conditions, every skill was compensated with overwhelming damage. Lunar Reflection also had the trait of absorbing the enemies’ blood to enhance the cultivator; in the system’s terms, life-leeching.

Bloodless Bladester’s final attack was an ultimate skill of Lunar Reflection, Bloody Blade of Evisceration. However, it was also True Crescent Aura at the same time.

Cultivation styles and internal powers were special existences in the game. Despite being fundamentally different from the game’s skills, they had synergistic effects with one another. Bloodless Bladester had started cultivating Lunar Reflection before Drako Yau even met Ichor Hon. After long days of cultivating, he finally reached enlightenment that granted him knowledge on how to combine skills and his internal powers.

The final strike was a combination of Bloody Blade of Evisceration that consumed over ninety per cent of his Health, his internal powers, and the game’s True Crescent Aura skill. It was no exaggeration that the strike was beyond a regular player’s comprehension.

Never did anyone imagine Bloodless Bladester to be so powerful in combat.

Drako Yau was having a bit of trouble; Handsome Scholar was stronger than he expected. While still somewhat unsure, he noticed that Handsome Scholar could roughly guess his moves, and that… didn’t feel too nice. It was as if the opponent could foresee all his moves in a game of chess.

The bandit martial also made things worse. As an NPC, it knew no such thing as a chivalry duel and attacked as long as the enemy was in sight. Drako Yau never thought he’d be relieved that Lothbrok had slipped past him into the village; with Lothbrok joining the fray in a three-versus-one, he’d be forced to reveal his hidden trump cards.

Got to admit that Handsome Scholar is a big surprise too, Drako Yau thought.

Meanwhile, Handsome Scholar was busy guessing Drako Yau’s moves. It’s coming… from the left! He can see that my left side is exposed! He immediately shifted his round shield to the left.

Clang!

The spear clashed against the buckler. After parrying the spear away, Handsome Scholar thrust his sword quickly, drawing an argent line in the air.

Level 28 Paladin skill, Retribution Thrust!

Skills of the Paladin Warskills tree had low damage but always inflicted negative effects on the enemy. Retribution Thrust’s debuff was decreasing the target’s Attack and Defence by twenty per cent.

“Gotcha!”

“Gotcha?”

Handsome Scholar looked up to find the clown totem right before his eyes, the clown’s lips yapping. Its voice seemed to come from the depths of the abyss.

“You know I’m Mask.”

With his thumb, index finger, and middle finger, Drako Yau clamped onto the sword that was half an inch away from his chest with his flaming left palm. Handsome Scholar tried to pull his sword back, but Drako Yau’s claws seemed to have welded onto the sword. It didn’t budge no matter how hard he tugged.

Drako Yau hung his spear on his back with his right hand and thrust it out in a palm strike.

It’s the chest! He’ll definitely attack my chest since it’s wide open! Handsome Scholar shielded his chest with his buckler. As expected… Eh?

Drako Yau’s palm gently slipped past his shield and clawed onto his chest, stunning him. The bandit martial charged at Drako Yau having sensed that Handsome Scholar was in grave danger.

Drako Yau’s fiery red bracelet gave off a glow and spawned three fire crystal giants that stood in the bandit martial’s way. Although their levels were low, they were enough to buy him a few seconds.

Drako Yau tightened his fingers and pulled upwards. Handsome Scholar’s vision tumbled as he was thrown to the ground with a shoulder throw.
