Chapter 3: Her Maid, Liu’er

Translator: Snowball

At the sight of her faint, the man pounced on her and held her by the waist instantly to protect her from falling. Seeing her closed eyes and pale face, he put two fingers under her nose and then heaved a sigh of relief when he sensed her faint breath.

The mentally retarded daughter of Marquis Mu turned out to be a martial artist! It was incredible that the extremely skinny girl, whose height was even not up to his chest, could burst out with such tremendous energy!

After a short while, a black figure rushed over, leaving a trail of footprints behind him.

“Get these two bastards’ bodies into the hut and wipe out the traces here.”

The man in black turned around, picked Mu Xiangqin and Song Qingyun up from the ground and walked toward the hut. A moment later, he erased all the traces in the room. However, instead of feeling relieved, he looked even more sullen.

“What’s wrong?”

“Lord, Mu Xiangqin’s wounds are quite strange. Her guts, ribs and left arm are all broken, as if she was severely whipped, but there’s only one wound on her body. This guy’s guts were all injured as well, but he died from a broken neck…”

He didn’t see them fighting, so he was confused about how the two were killed. However, after checking their bodies carefully, he was sure even he himself was unable to cause such a degree of destruction.

Nongyue’s dandiacal expression disappeared and on his chiseled face, there was a trace of indifference. “It seems something in the capital city is out of my control.”

“Lord, do you want me to wipe her out?”

Nongyue knew he was talking about Mu Yingxue, who was now in his arms. If she wasn’t as innocent as she looked like, the consequences might be serious.

“There’s no rush. Dispatch more people to keep a close eye on the Mu’s Mansion.”

“Yes, Lord.”

In a semi-consciousness state, Mu Yingxue felt someone’s hand slowly running from her forehead to her neck.

As a secret agent, she had been living her life in danger, so her reactions were faster than her brain. In a split second, Mu Yingxue grabbed that person by the hand and bounced up from the bed. She pressed that person’s shoulder with another hand, took her arm and wrapped it around her neck, which prevented her from moving.

It wasn’t until she caught that person by the throat that she noticed it was a maid her age, who was staring her with an expression of horror on her face while tears were streaming down her cheeks.

“Miss, it hurts…”

Only then did she remember that she was no longer the Mu Yingxue in her previous life. The place where she lived now was called the Apocalypse Continent, and the girl in front of her was Liu’er, the maid who had been taking care of her. As Mu Yingxue was mentally impaired after a fever at the age of five, her mother, Ouyang Ruo, bought a little girl to serve her as her maid.

She strode the back of her head and was surprised to find the wound had been treated. She remembered she was on the hill behind their mansion before losing consciousness, but how come she woke up in the room? At the thought that she fainted in the middle of fighting that man in a silver mask, Mu Yingxue couldn’t help gritting her teeth.

“Liu’er, why am I in bed?”

Having been taken aback by Mu Yingxue’s sudden movements just now, Liu’er answered in a hurry, “I saw you lying on the ground in our courtyard, unconscious. As I couldn’t wake you up, I helped you onto the bed and was about to clean your face with a towel…”

Thinking of the intimidating look in Mu Yingxue’s eyes and her swift movement, Liu’er showed an expression of lingering fear on her face. She then moved aside without a word.

Could it be that the man who treated her wound sent her back? It was impossible! There was no information whatsoever about him in her memory, so she was suspicious of how he had figured out that she was Marquis Mu’s daughter and sent her back to the Mu’s Mansion.

“So you treated the wound for me?”

“What? Miss, you got injured? Where? Is it serious? Let me take a look. I’ll send for Madam Ouyang and Mammy Qiao.”

Hearing that Mu Yingxue was injured, Liu’er immediately left her fear behind and became extremely anxious.

Mu Yingxue reached out and pulled Liu’er back. “Nothing. I fell down by accident just now, so my head is aching. Don’t tell my mom. I don’t want her to worry about me.”

“Miss, no worries. I won’t tell anybody. Are you hungry? Let me get some food for you.”

Mu Yingxue was really hungry, so as soon as the food was served, she began to gobble it. However, she suddenly stopped when she sensed Liu’er’s burning gaze on her.

“Liu’er, we can share the meal if you’re hungry too.”

Liu’e shook her hands in haste. “No, thanks, I’m not hungry.”

“Then why are you staring me all the time? Is it because of my table manners?”

“No, Miss. I just feel you’re quite different from the one you used to be. You’re not that…”

“Not that stupid?”

“No, Miss. That is not what I meant.”

Liu’er was one year younger than Mu Yingxue. She looked comely and cute with big eyes, a delicate nose and chubby cheeks. Seeing her anxious look, Mu Yingxue couldn’t help teasing her. “Yes, Liu’er. I’m no longer an idiot. I tripped over outside and fell to the ground, and then I found that my intelligence had returned to normal.”

“Really?” Liu’er widened her eyes in astonishment.

“Of course! I saw an aged immortal after falling to the ground. He said I was lucky enough that my head happened to bump against a spiritual stone. Now not only did I regain my intelligence, but I have become a martial artist as well. Look, it’s the stone in our yard. If you pick it up and hit yourself on the head, you’ll get smarter.”

Liu’er listened carefully. Though it was completely unimaginable to her, she couldn’t think of a more reasonable explanation. “So that’s it. Miss, if it wasn’t for the fact that I’ve been serving you for so many years, I would have thought you were teasing me.”

Mu Yingxue blushed at her words. “Actually, I was indeed kidding.”

It relieved Liu’er’s tension, who immediately rattled off the description of the Mu’s Mansion to her. Though she wasn’t that organized when she spoke, Mu Yingxue still got some important information.

Mu Yunxiao was not only the only marquis with a different surname, but also a general with millions of troops at his command.

Mu Yingxue was Mu Yunxiao’s fourth daughter. Though her mother was a concubine, she should have been even more distinguished than the wedded wives’ daughters of the ordinary officials. However, it wasn’t a secret that Marquis Mu had too many daughters. Therefore, as a retarded girl who had the intelligence of a five-year-old, Mu Yingxue had never enjoyed the glory and honor of being the daughter of a marquis, instead, she had always been cursed and beaten by others at will. Without her mother, Ouyang Ruo’s protection, she would have died years ago. As the mother of a mentally retarded child, Ouyang Ruo lived a miserable life in the mansion and was often bullied by people from the other courtyards.

Mu Xiangqin was Mu Yunxiao’s third daughter. Though her mother was also a concubine, she was thought highly of in their mansion for her talent and beauty. As far as Mu Xiangqin was concerned, it would be perfect to set off her dignity with the humbleness of that mentally retarded child, Mu Yingxue. Therefore, she took pleasure in bullying Mu Yingxue all the time. Now the payback had come. Mu Xiangqin had gone to hell to atone her sin to the former Mu Yingxue, who had been killed mercilessly.

In addition to Mu Xiangqin and Mu Yingxue, Marquis Mu had seven children in addition. His second son Mu Ziluo, his fifth daughter Mu Shuilan were born by his legal wife, Madam Xu Min; his sixth daughter Mu Yueli, seven daughter Mu Feiyan and eighth daughter were born by Concubine Fang, Concubine Qin and Concubine Hua respectively, and the birth mother of his ninth daughter was a maid who died giving birth.”

At Liu’er’s words, Mu Yingxue almost choked on the food. It was no wonder that there were so many Misses in the Mu’s Mansion. It was really rare that there was only one boy out of nine children!

“Since my father only has one son, why do you call him the Second Young Master? Where’s the Young Master?”

“Miss, I’ve no idea. Mammy Qiao should know about it. I’ll ask her later.”

It was getting dark early in winter. Seeing that the snow was getting heavier, but Ouyang Ruo and Mammy Qiao hadn’t come back yet, Liu’er couldn’t help pacing anxiously in front of the gate of their courtyard. After pondering for a while, she decided to ask Mu Yingxue for help, as if a voice in her mind was telling her that her young master would be able to find a solution.

“Has this happened before?”

“Never. Madam Ouyang and Mammy Qiao should have come back long before this time.”

“When did they leave?”

“Mammy Qiao went to the laundry room in the early morning, but she hadn’t come back after lunch, so Madam Ouyang went out to find her. Now it’s already dark outside, but they still haven’t come back yet.”

After considering for a moment, Mu Yingxue said, “Get me a coat. I’m going to check on them.”
