88. The Murderer

Translator: Sissy That Walk

The last time Qi Le An got Chu Cheng Yuan’s hair, he didn’t show any mercy, he fabricated another nightmare on that very night.

He just wanted to punish Chu Cheng Yuan, unlike the first time when he fabricated a nightmare for Chu Cheng Yuan, he went all the way this time. Qi Le An felt that if he were not an actor, he could write horror fiction for a living.

Chu Cheng Yuan was so smarmy, he said that he was so happy to see Qi Le An and he introduced the crew members to Qi Le An. This made Qi Le An feel uncomfortable. Although he came late, he was the male lead. Yet Chu Cheng Yuan acted like Qi Le An was a guest, Qi Le An was a bit riled up and he couldn’t help but feel like teaching Chu Cheng Yuan a lesson again.

After so many times, Qi Le An understood that Chu Cheng Yuan was not someone who could be knocked down by nightmares. If he couldn’t use the system to make him leave the entertainment industry, what else could he do?

Qi Le An hadn’t come up with a good way yet.

Chu Cheng Yuan disliked Qi Le An in his heart. He felt that Qi Le An was a very selfish person. Everyone was equal in front of opportunities. He always felt Qi Le An had an unspeakable hostility towards him and the thought Qi Le An was doing it to put on airs in front of him.

Therefore, for the past half a month, Chu Cheng Yuan had been working on his master plan that of getting along well with all the crew members as a counterattack to Qi Le An. So he deliberately acted so close with all the crew members and introduced Qi Le An to them.

Both of them looked friendly on the surface, while they hated each other in their hearts. With the day’s filming done, Qi Le An returned to the hotel and continued to study the script.

He could also see that Chu Cheng Yuan was very popular among the crew members, and because his acting skills were not bad, the director quite liked him as well. He was a latecomer in the team and he couldn’t compare to Chu Cheng Yuan’s popularity for a while. Now that Qi Le An wanted to quickly claim his male lead status, he figured he better start with Director Yang.

As an actor, acting well was the foundation, excellent acting skills was the prerequisite for an actor to impress the director.

Perhaps it was Chen Shan’s tea tree oil had worked wonder, when Qi Le An woke up the next day, the pimple on Qi Le An’s forehead was much smaller. Although it had not completely gone down, it could still be covered by some foundation.

Qi Le An had a heavy task. First of all, he had a large amount of scenes as the male lead, secondly all his scenes were arranged to shoot intensively within the summer vacation. Fortunately, with the experience of Better Days, Qi Le An was not overwhelmed by the workload.

Li Guangyan, Qi Le An ‘s character, was a young master who grew up in a wealthy family. Qi Le An was a bit worried about delivering the wealthy young master part. He had never lived a life that was remotely close to a young master, he was a bit nervous about that.

Thankfully, he was surrounded by rich kids like Wei Chang Feng and Chen Shan. He had been secretly observed Chen Shan and he figured he could portray early-stage Li Guangyan as Chen Shan.

Qi Le An nailed his first scene. Director Yang praised him after the first scene, “Great, An! Now I see why Director Chen cast you in Better Days! Such excellent performing!”

More often than not, actors needed some time find their feet in a new set, both Jiang Xiaoyu and Chu Cheng Yuan had stumbled over when they first started shooting. However, Qi Le An was praised by Director Yang since the first scene. People can’t help hold him in high esteem.

Compared to Chu Cheng Yuan, everyone could not help but think that no wonder it was Qi Le An who had got the male lead part.

Chu Cheng Yuan, who originally wanted to see Qi Le An make a fool of himself, couldn’t help but clench his fists. His dark and unreadable eyes swept over Qi Le An. ‘One day, I will surpass you, Qi Le An! I will take all your glory and resources in the industry! All the directors will want to work with me instead of you!’

Chu Cheng Yuan suppressed his emotions. When Qi Le An ended halfway, he was still smiling, “Le An, you are so awesome! Can you teach me when you’re free? I always felt that my emotions are not in place.”

Qi Le An put on a dry smile and said, “You will get to it as you get more experience. There’s no skill in this kind of thing. In fact, I only started reading my script recently, I was occupied by schoolwork before.” But as a matter of fact, Qi Le An had been reading his script since the first day he got it, now he was just being sassy and he wanted to dwarf Chu Cheng Yuan!

As expected, Chu Cheng Yuan’s expression became worse when he heard Qi Le An’s words.

Qi Le An achieved his goal and he cheered for himself in the heart. After he finished work in the evening, he tried hard to rehearse the scenes of the next day in his mind. Sometimes, he would think aloud in front of the mirror, which made Chen Shan worried that Qi Le An would go crazy.

After a week, the crew members all shower praise on Qi Le An and said that he was doing so well and he was so dedicated to work. In addition, Qi Le An was young and approachable, that was an innate advantage, so his popularity in the group had quickly surpassed Chu Cheng Yuan.

The only blemish was that although this method ensured the efficiency of filming the next day, it had taken up most of Qi Le An’s time. Before entering the crew, he planned to read a chapter of his English book every night to, but he hadn’t opened the book all week.

Even though Qi Le An and Wei Chang Feng were in the same movie city, both of them had heavy workloads. Since the last time they parted, they only sent a few messages occasionally, not even having time to call.

The days on set were busy and smooth. After getting the director’s permission, Qi Le An posted a photo on his Weibo. In the photo, he was wearing shabby clothes, lying in the trench. This did not match Qi Le An’s usual image, which immediately aroused curiosity from the fans.

The crew of “The Disguiser” also joined Weibo and on that day, they had got more than 100,000 followers.

This seemingly unintentional action caught a lot of attention from the media. Weibo had been keeping a low profile since the scandal, but now they had got a new round of users, including a lot of stars. Qi Le An was no longer the only one who used Weibo to communicate with the fans, but his popularity on Weibo did not decrease at all.

The system would randomly recommend some big shots from various fields to the newly registered users, Qi Le An would always occupy the first place among the entertainment stars.

Because Qi Le An had single-handedly promoted their drama on Weibo, Producer Cui liked him even more. Yin Yan also visited him not long after that, he organized a dinner for Qi Le An, Producer Cui and Director Yang that night.

The crew members had slowly shifted their love and attention from Chu Cheng Yuan to Qi Le An over the past two weeks.

The shooting went on great until mid-July. Because of Qi Le An’s extraordinary performance, the progress of “The Disguiser” was well on track. All the crew members felt relieved and grateful at the same time. This morning, Qi Le An had rarely slept in because he didn’t have any shooting till the afternoon. Around 10 o’clock he got up and walked to Chen Shan’s room.

However, the moment he walked out of his room, he froze in the corridor.

He saw a middle-aged man in an old grey suit standing in the corridor, looking around suspiciously. When he saw Qi Le An, he was shocked and quickly he knocked on the door closest to him.

Qi Le An didn’t know how he controlled his body and walked back to the room. He took two deep breaths and violently threw everything on the table to the ground.

‘How could it be him! He actually appeared here!’

Qi Le An’s eyes were red as he tugged at his hair. The pain spread from the tip of his hair to every part of his body, and the feeling of being torn up had once again appeared. The scene of the sky and earth spinning round in front of him was revived.

Qi Le An’s body trembled and he knelt on the ground.

He had only seen that face once! But it was a face he would never forget!

It was the driver who had killed him!

Why was he here? The room he just entered was…

Qi Le An quickly walked out and took a look. After confirming the room number, he bit his lips.

It was Chu Cheng Yuan’s room! Sure enough, it was Chu Cheng Yuan’s room!

He had no clear evidence it was Chu Cheng Yuan who had hired the driver to kill him except Chu Cheng Yuan’s confession by his deathbed. The arrival of the driver gave an explanation to all the mysteries.

The one who hired the driver to kill him was really Chu Cheng Yuan!

Qi Le An felt his stomach was growling and the next second he spat out a mouthful of blood.

In the bright room, Qi Le An leaned against the brown sofa with a pale face. The white shirt on his body was soaked in blood. His face was twisted and terrifying, like a ghost who had broken free from hell.

‘Chu Cheng Yuan, I will not let you go, I will not let you go!’

Hatred reached its peak at this moment. Qi Le An rummaged the room, looking for a weapon. However, he didn’t find anything in this clean suite. On the table was his English book and textbook, and on the side was the pencil box sent by Wei Chang Feng. On the back of the chair was his school bag that Chen Shan bought for him, he had even brought the cactus that Wei Chang Feng gave him when he moved to a new house. It was so green and lush, bursting with vitality.

At this moment, his door was pushed open. Chen Shan entered the room, when he saw Qi Le An and the blood on his shirt, he dashed towards him and shouted, ” An! An, are you all right!?”

Qi Le An did not react like he didn’t hear that at all. He stared straight at the cactus on the table.

Chen Shan kneeled on the sofa and stroked Qi Le An’s head. His shout had attracted many people walking out from their rooms. Production Supervisor Jiang was the first to rush to Qi Le An’s room. When he saw the scene, he was shocked and quickly asked, “What’s wrong? Is An all right?”

Qi Le An closed his eyes and Chen Shan picked up a jacket to cover his  shirt with blood stains. Then he rushed out without looking back.

The corridor was noisy and Chu Cheng Yuan had walked out as well. He frowned and looked around, curious about the chaos. When Chen Shan walked past him, carrying Qi Le An in his arms, Chu Cheng Yuan was shocked to the core.

The middle-aged man stood behind Chu Cheng Yuan and asked, “Boss, what we just said… how do you think about that…”

Chu Cheng Yuan turned back and said, “Alright, then you can be my driver for a while.”

The middle-aged man’s nervous expression vanished and he bowed happily, “Don’t worry, Boss. I’ll definitely work hard!”

Chu Cheng Yuan nodded casually and walked out of the room to ask Production Supervisor Jiang in the crowd, “Was that Le An just now? What happened?”

Production Supervisor Jiang looked so serious, and he dispersed the crowd, “Nothing had happened, nothing. Let’s go back to our room and not talk nonsense!”

He was just trying to maintain orders. But Chu Cheng Yuan had taken it personally, his face stiffened as he heard that and he gnashed his teeth.

‘Even a Production Supervisor in the crew dares to shout at me. One day, I will make these people pay for that!’

At this time, Chu Cheng Yuan didn’t know that his acting career had reached the end as he was caught with that middle-aged man.

No, it might not just be his acting career.

What was ahead of him was revenge from hell. Hatred that was like burning fire, hatred that was named karma.
