59. The Car Accident

Translator: Sissy That Walk

The news was like a thunderbolt out of a clear sky, Qi Le An was shocked to the core.

He asked in a trembling voice that he didn’t even notice, “What? What did you say? A car accident? ”

In his last life, Qi Le An died from a car accident, so he was particularly sensitive to this word.

“Yes, the current situation is overwhelmingly negative…”

Qi Le An felt the sky and earth were spinning round and Chen Shan’s voice had gradually faded away. He held the table beside him for fear of falling.

“I don’t know the details either, I just think I should tell you.”

“Okay, thanks Chen Ge,” Qi Le An said calmly.

After a moment of silence, Chen Shan asked tentatively, “An, are you really okay? What can I do for you?

“I’m fine,” Qi Le An hung up.

‘A car accident! Wei Chang Feng?  How is that even possible!’

The last time they met was at the housewarming dinner, the flowers brought by Wei Chang Feng had withered. Qi Le An watched several tutorials online and air dried the petals, he had saved every petal carefully. The cactus was still full of life. Qi Le An had put the beautiful plant on his table. The cactus had accompanied him at every class, every time he felt like giving up, he would raise his head and felt empowered by the cactus.

Wei Chang Feng and Qi Le An hadn’t been contacting much in the past month. Wei Chang Feng seemed to have flown abroad to shoot a commercial for an endorsement. Wei Chang Feng didn’t mention any stunt movies, how come he just had a car accident!

Qi Le An suddenly grabbed his wallet from the table and rushed out of his house without even bothering to put on his jacket.

He stood by the side of the street to hail a taxi. Fortunately, it was so dark and so quiet, it took him a while to get a taxi. He jumped into the car when finally a taxi stopped for him.

“Where are you going?” The driver asked, then he looked at Qi Le An suspiciously, “Why do you feel familiar? Have I met you somewhere?”

“The airport please,” Qi Le An could no longer keep his composure, he felt like he was about to fall apart the next second. He cried, “Please, sir, please hurry up!”

When the driver heard this, he didn’t pester Qi Le An any further, he just stepped on the accelerator and sped on.

It was a smooth trip to the airport, they didn’t even encounter a single red light. Qi Le An bought tickets as soon as he entered the airport, luckily he made it in time for the next flight to City B. He hopped on the plane in a trance, thinking about Wei Chang Feng the whole time.

He got off the plane, and it wasn’t until he shivered from the coldness did he realize that he had left his coat at home.

Qi Le An had noticed the passengers’ looks, he could imagine the headlines of the entertainment newspaper the next day, but he didn’t care about it anymore. He didn’t know which hospital Wei Chang Feng was in, so he went to the lounge and started calling Gary.

Gary didn’t picked up.

Qi Le An did not know how many times he had called, but the beep from the other side of the phone sounded so cold and heartless. He guessed that he must looked terrible at the moment, the staff seemed to have checked him a few times from afar, but they didn’t dare come in.

Qi Le An just sank into the sofa miserably, holding his phone and lowering his head.

After some time, the phone started to vibrate. Qi Le An trembled and he picked up the call promptly.

“What is it, An?” Gary sounded exhausted.

“I… I’m at City B airport, but I don’t know where to go,” Qi Le An panicked, “How’s Wei Sama?”

“What are you doing here?” There was a trace of surprise in the voice of Gary, but he didn’t answer Qi Le An’s question about Wei Chang Feng, he asked, “Where exactly are you now?”

“How is Wei Sama? Can I see him?” Qi Le An’s voice was trembling.

Gary heaved a sigh and said, “All right, please just wait for me at the airport.”

Qi Le An finally showed a faint smile, he was still miserable, but at least now he had seen some hope. A staff member knocked on the door and Qi Le An raised his head to signal her to come in. The girl in uniform served him a cup of hot coffee and looked at Qi Le An worriedly, “Hello, Mr. Qi, would you like a hot drink?”

Qi Le An smiled gratefully and took the cup of coffee. “Thank you so much.”

The girl blushed and seemed to have something to say to Qi Le An, but she didn’t say anything in the end.

Qi Le An smiled again and the staff went out.

The VIP lounge was very warm, and Qi Le An gradually felt warmed up. If Chen Shan knew he had come to City B without a jacket, he was definitely going to give him a lecture!

After about twenty minutes, Gary called him. “I’m at the airport now, you can come out any time now.”

Qi Le An quickly got up and went out according to the route indicated by Gary.

When Gary saw him, he frowned and said, “Are you out of your mind, An? Do you know it’s freezing cold outside?

Qi Le An shook his head and said, “I’m fine, Gary. Really. How is Wei Sama? Can you let me know how he is now? ”

Gary knew he couldn’t avoid this question any longer. He was silent for a moment then said, “…It’s not good.”

Qi Le An’s face turned pale.

Gary was Wei Chang Feng’s personal assistant, Qi Le An was glad when he saw Gary was here to pick him up by himself, he told himself that was a good sign, that meant Wei Chang Feng was better now.

The two got into the car with a heavy heart. Gary asked, “Did you get photographed by any reporter?”

Qi Le An nodded and then he shook his head. After a while, he said slowly, “I don’t know… I wasn’t paying attention.”

Gary heaved a sigh, he pressed his forehead and made a few phone calls.

Qi Le An searched his memory carefully, he couldn’t recall that Wei Chang Feng had ever had a car accident. But Gary just said Wei Chang Feng wasn’t doing great, what was going on!

“The news of his car accident is blocked. How did you know?” Gary suddenly asked.

“Chen Ge told me…” Qi Le An answered Gary’s question in a daze.

Gary was lost in thought.

“How did Wei Sama get into a car accident?” Qi Le An asked anxiously.

“That is unexpected…” Gary’s answer was very vague.

Qi Le An didn’t ask anymore. They car all the way to a private hospital in a suburb. The news of Wei Chang Feng’s car accident was indeed not leaked, and there was no suspicious reporters outside the hospital. Gary took Qi Le An upstairs and went straight to the operating room entrance.

Apart from Gary, there was a silent man who was standing by the entrance. The man was handsome and tall, and Qi Le An had seen him before.

It was Sheng Chang’an.

Sheng Chang’an glanced at Qi Le An and looked away. There were still some bodyguards standing in the corridor. Qi Le An asked Gary, “How long has Wei Sama been in the operating room?”

“Three hours.”

Qi Le An was stunned. Three hours already, how severe was the injury?

The sound of high heels click-clack down the corridor broke the silence. Qi Le An turned around, it was a beautiful woman who was striding to the operating room. The woman’s makeup was exquisitely done, but now she was flustered. She lost her balance when she was about to reach the operating room. Sheng Chang’an, who was leaning against the wall, suddenly strode over to support her.

The next second, to everyone’s surprise, the woman slapped Sheng Chang’an hard.

The entire corridor was so quiet that Qi Le An couldn’t help but stare at the woman with disbeliefs.  Who dared to slap Sheng Chang’an like this?

None of the guards in the corridor looked like they were going to do anything about this. Even Gary did not look over there, he just kept staring at the operating room door with a grave look on the face.

The woman slapped Sheng Chang’an so hard that his right cheek had instantly turned red. However, he didn’t seem to have notice that. He looked at the woman and asked, “How’s your ankle?” Let’s sit first.

“Sheng Chang’an!”

The woman shouted Sheng Chang’an’s name out loud and then she cried out abruptly.

“Changfeng, if anything happens to him, I can’t spare you!”

Her voice was mournful and her eyes were filled with tears.

Sheng Chang’an hugged the woman despite the woman’s struggle. He whispered at her ear, “It’s fine, it’ll definitely be fine. I’ve found the best doctor. Chang Feng will be fine.”

The woman seemed to have gradually calmed down.  Sheng Chang’an supported her with his hands and walked to the bench.

Sheng Chang’an squatted down and half-knelt to help the woman take off her shoes. Then he asked the bodyguard to get a pair of flat shoes for her.

Qi Le An noticed that Sheng Chang’an’s actions were full of gentleness.

Perhaps Qi Le An was fascinated by how gentle Sheng Chang’an could be so he kept staring at them, the woman suddenly raised her head and gazed at him. She had regained her composure now and you could tell that she was definitely an elegant lady. Her looked so surprised and she asked, “It’s An, right? What are you doing here?”

Qi Le An was shocked. He didn’t expect this person to know him. Who was this person?

Sheng Chang’an answered the question, “He called Gary and said he was at the airport. I thought about it and asked Gary to pick him up.

The woman nodded.

She didn’t ask about the details about the car accident. Obviously, someone had already told her everything. She remained expressionless and Qi Le An noticed she had clenched her fists tightly the whole time. She didn’t even say anything when the doctor checked her ankle. Sheng Chang’an put on the flats for her gently, even though she had just slapped Sheng Chang’an, she still couldn’t help leaning on Sheng Chang’an while they were waiting. She would say a prayer from time to time.

At this moment, the lights outside the operating room were finally turned off.

The woman sprang up to her feet regardless of her injured ankle.
