Chapter 275 - Wedding Night (2)

Cheng Huan stopped for quite a bit of time in front of every stage and she always had some kind of snacks in her hand.

Before they realized, it was almost midnight.

As though instructed, all of the stages stopped at midnight. The venue quieted down and all the tourists were baffled, having no idea what was going on.

Cheng Huan took a bite of the chestnut cake and looked over at Jiang MingYuan. The man looked very calm; obviously, not surprised by this at all.

“What you are planning on doing?”

“C’mon over.” Jiang MingYuan did not answer her question. He only walked forward holding her hand in his.

The riverbank was not entirely flat; there was an area that was higher than the others. There was nobody there and the view was great.

Hearing the sound of the water hitting the embankment, Cheng Huan looked around and didn’t see anything. “What’s so special about this spot?”

“Hold on.”

Cheng Huan had an idea and quieted down with her mouth shut. Time seemed to have slowed. Finally, it was midnight.

A bell tower from afar rang and, as though it was a signal, the dark buildings on the other side of the river lit up in colors. There were music and the colored lights sparkled and danced with the music.

A giant LED screen lit up. It was a person’s face or any commercials that appeared but plate after plate of delectable food. Being shown these pictures in the middle of the night was surely a torture. The tourists that were still there drooled at the screen and looked for the closest booth as they stuff themselves with snacks.

Nobody knew why they were displaying those pictures on the screen except for Cheng Huan. She didn’t know what to make of them but felt both touched and a little embarrassed. Tugging at the corner of Jiang MingYuan’s shirt, she asked, “What do you do this for?”

“I don’t think it will be appropriate to use pictures of us, so I opted for these.” He was a bit anxious. “Do you not like them?”

“I do.” She felt a little embarrassed but, truth be told, she was very touched. Leaning on the fence and looked across the river, it seemed like her voice could dissipate in the wind. “Thank you for my birthday gift.”

“If you like it…” The man behind her approached her. He wrapped his arm around her waist and presented her a brocade box. “How about marrying me?”

There was no applause from the crowd like what one would see in a drama. There was just the two of them, witnessed by the lights from across the river.

Cheng Huan could think of many reasons why this was not the right time: They hadn’t known each other for too long; there were many things between them that needed working out; there was a big gap between the two of them; his mother still objects to them being together, etc. etc…

But nobody could remain rational all the time. At this very moment, all of those concerns were pushed aside and she almost couldn’t wait to say yes.

***

Time seemed to fly between the proposal and the wedding. Jiang MingYuan and Cheng Huan had their wedding during the fall when XingXing became a member of the kindergarten.

They reserved the entire hotel for their wedding and many prominent families attended but no reporters were able to get any internal photos.

As the bride, Cheng Huan had to start getting ready days before the wedding. She needed to soak in all sorts of skincare products and the goal was to be perfect from head to toe on the wedding day.

Per the tradition, the two of them needed to be apart from each other on the day of the wedding. XingXing was tossed to Jiang MingYuan and Cheng Huan had to get up before the break of dawn to start on the hair, makeup, and getting dressed. Then to wait for Jiang MingYuan’s arrival.

She didn’t have many relatives or friends so everybody on the bride’s side were basically the ladies that she had met recently. The only exception was Xu Li. Xu Li and her husband already had a few storefronts and were still in the business of barbeque shops. They had taken a few days off to help out Cheng Huan and, every chance that they have, they would say it was good karma.

It was 8 AM and started to get lively outside. Cheng Huan was sitting in the room alone and she held onto the bouquet tightly. She was a little nervous and her throat a little dry. She didn’t feel like drinking any water though. The noises did not last very long and, the room door opened. Jiang MingYuan stood there in his groom outfit.

His outfit was handmade. It was a dim red color. The dragon texture embroidery looked vivid as though it could come alive any given minute. The big, red flowers on the front looked a bit silly but did not affect his overall handsomeness.

The process that followed were fairly standard but, perhaps it was her own wedding, Cheng Huan felt that it was very sweet.

As Jiang MingYuan had always been an authoritatively one, nobody dared gave him too much of a hard time. They only tried blocking him as a formality but did not let things go too far.

Cheng Huan had no brothers or relatives so Jiang MingYuan was the one who carried her out. Cheng Huan laid on his back as the ornament on her head swayed back and forth. Her cheeks looked a bit pink from the reflection of her red bride’s dress. Holding onto her own clothes, she asked, “Am I heavy?”

“No, just perfect.”

The car door was opened up and she was placed into the backseat awkwardly. XingXing, who was the flower boy, turned around. He smiled so much that his eyes were just a slit. He breathed through his mouth when he said, “You are so pretty today, Mom.”

The car door on the other side opened up and Jiang MingYuan got inside. He agreed with XingXing. “Yes, I think so too.”

Cheng Huan had no parents on her side nor did Jiang MingYuan planned to invite Gu MingLi to their wedding. As such, they skipped the tea ceremony part.

They may have been able to skip the tea ceremony part but not the rest. By the time everybody was gone, Cheng Huan collapsed on the bed before she could even change.

Jiang MingYuan closed the door and went upstairs into the bed after he saw the last guest to the door.

The old house had been remodeled and the second bedroom was turned into the master bedroom. With Cheng Huan lying in bed, her bright red bride’s gown blended in with the bedsheets.

Jiang MingYuan removed the red flowers from his chest and walked over to her lightly. Cheng Huan, lying on her side, had already closed her eyes.

He went over to her, removed her hair ornament, and said, “Why don’t you take these off before you go to sleep?”

“Hmm.” Cheng Huan made a noise but did not move. She followed onto her stomach and her intention was clear.

Jiang MingYuan sighed and finally removed the hair ornaments per her request. Then, after studying it for a while, he undid her hair. He scooped up a bundle of her hair and let it slip off his hand. Leaning into her ear, he said to her, “Get up and wash up.”

Cheng Huan’s eyes remain closed. “I don’t want to get up.”

“This is our wedding night. You can’t be lazy.” Jiang MingYuan’s look was tender. He scooped her up and, half way to the bathroom, her red gown fell onto the floor.

This was their wedding night.
