Chapter 1, Pt 1 - Crossing

If you were to ask Yuan Luo what she regretted most in life, she would probably say it was opening that deceptive novel.

It was a hot summer when Yuan Luo graduated from college.  She had done professional internships and her thesis defense, crossed the difficult threshold of finding a job, and had even looked at houses for rent.

Finally, she could breathe a sigh of relief.  Today, she was lying in bed reading a novel.

She opened a novel called "Jing Lue Tian Xia," which was fascinating.  The book tells the story of a young general's son whose family suffered injustice and he was exiled to the border.  Then he began as a small soldier and upgraded step by step.  Finally he took charge of military power and returned to the capital seeking revenge.

The plot of the whole story is tortuous, the text is exquisite, and the descriptions are remarkable. In particular, the protagonist experienced the various battles of a lifetime when he was a soldier, which is particularly vivid.

The only thing that makes Yuan Luo a little uncomfortable is that a certain villain in the book happens to have the same name as her.

Fortunately, this villain is neither the female protagonist, nor the male protagonist's lover, she's just background.

The story takes place during the Tianyu dynasty. The emperor is ignorant and he favors treacherous concubines and eunuchs, which has stirred up chaos in the government and country. The father of the protagonist was betrayed and killed, because he was unwilling to cling to a traitor.

And the character with the same name as Yuan Luo happened to be the traitorous concubine who framed the male protagonist's family.

Yuan Lou stayed up until midnight and finally saw the male protagonist return to the capital and punish the evil concubine, which was very gratifying.

She turned off her cell phone and got ready to go to sleep.

Not knowing how long she slept, Yuan Lou felt like she couldn't take a breath.  It was as if she had fallen into water.  She seemed to be surrounded by cold and was suffocating to death.

Was she having a nightmare?

She flailed instinctively and felt a sharp pain on her neck, as if a hand was wrapped around her throat trying to strangle her to death.

She could only blame reading such an intense novel right before bed as the reason for having this nightmare.

There was a cold electronic sound in her ear,

[Dear user, hello, congratulations on starting the villain's life completion plan.】 【Initial favor value of the male lead: -52...】

With the almost suffocating pain, Yuan Luo could barely open her eyes.  It was cold, too cold, and there was water everywhere.

Through the ice crystal-like water surface, she sees two brilliant stars full of murderous intent staring at her from the dense darkness, like a lone wolf looking down from a high altitude.

Fear surged in Yuan Luo's heart. She realized that this was not a dream, but that someone had really grabbed her neck and had pushed her into the water.

Suddenly, robbery and murder cases she had seen on the TV news flooded into her brain like water. With mounting fear and pain, she thrashed with her hands and feet.  Finally she touched something and stabbed at it forcefully.

The man didn't expect that she would still have the power to resist and he was stabbed by her unexpectedly.

After a muffled hum, Yuan Luo felt the strength on her neck loosen.

At that time, there was a noise in the distance.

"Here, the empress is over this way!"

...

Are the police here?  Or the neighbor next door found an abnormality! Yuan Luo thought dimly. After that there was a deep darkness and she seemed to sink into a constantly descending abyss.

Not knowing how long it took, Yuan Luo gradually woke up. She felt like she was lying on a warm and soft place. There was a sweet smell near her nose, a noise in her ears, and someone was talking.

She tried to sort everything out in her head, but the childish voice was simply too loud.

"Are the hospitals all useless?"

"If she can't wake up again, all of you will be buried with her!"

Yuan Luo: ...

What kind of brain-dead speech is this? This kind of thing would be common in the ancient texts of Gong Dou Xiaobai.  After a while, her body gradually regained strength and she opened her eyes.

Very close were a pair of bright eyes staring at her.

The eyes, of a similar distance to the ones from her nightmare, evoked great fear in her. Yuan Luo raised her hand reflexively and slapped those eyes severely.

With a "pop", Yuan Luo felt a tingling pain in her palm.

At the same time, the other party exclaimed "Oh," his voice clear and tender.

Only then did Yuan Luo see clearly that he was a boy of maybe fifteen or sixteen years old. He was handsome and lovely. Because he was slapped by Yuan Luo, he stood up straight, covered his red cheek with his hands, and looked at Yuan Luo with incomprehension.

After the slap, the pair of big wet eyes, as lovely and graceful as a mountain deer, showed an expression of grievance, which was even more pitiful.

Yuan Luo couldn't help but apologize, glanced away, and suddenly froze.

The boy was dressed in a light blue gown embroidered with a golden dragon soaring in clouds.  His long black hair was neatly combed abd on top of his head was a golden crown embedded with a sapphires the size of a pigeon's egg.

Looking around, she's lying on a big bed surrounded by beautiful curtains which are embroidered with shiny gold-thread, Phoenix patterns with pearls and gemstones in the corners.

Beyond the curtains, there was a group of palace maids and eunuchs with some old men with gray beards mixed among them.

The crowd looked shocked, but soon lowered their heads.

Only the eunuch beside the boy hesitated to look at the master's covered cheek and asked in a low voice, "Emperor, are you all right?"

Emperor!

Yuan Luo was startled by this name. She was sure that she had caught up with the prevailing spring tide of transition.

But who had she become? A queen or a princess? She was so dead, she slapped the emperor as soon as she woke up.

Because of this slap, will she be put into the cold palace just after crossing over? She remembered that there was an empress in the Song Dynasty who accidentally beat the emperor when they were arguing and then she was abandoned.

She was full of anxiety, and the young emperor on the opposite side was completely unaware of it.

"A Luo, you finally woke up!" The surprised voice said that the Emperor didn't mind the slap in the face.

Yuan Luo breathed a sigh of relief. Fortunately, she met a magnanimous Emperor.

But who did she become after transmigrating? His concubine, sister? Not the Dowager Empress, right? Forget it. He called her A Lou, so she certainly can't be the Dowager Empress.
