1 - How Come You Haven't Differentiated Yet?

At the beginning of the school year in the First Federal Military School, incoming students were smiling with bright eyes, full of anticipation for their future campus life. They all had their heads held high, and their steady, high strides represented their determination to succeed.

–Everyone from the First Military Academy is the Federation’s finest blade.

“Another batch of naive rookies.”

“Yet again, another group of wolf cubs coming to rob our food!”

A few older students gathered together, haphazardly donning their uniforms, handed out leaflets while looking at the group of tender freshmen with both sympathy and resentment.

“Soon they’ll know that after coming here, they’re all just sandbags for others.”

“Hey, who differentiated recently?”

“Didn’t everyone who was supposed to differentiate last year do so?”

In the Federation, ages seventeen to eighteen years old was the peak time period for pheromone differentiation, during which students would differentiate into alpha, beta, or omega. Traditionally, alphas had the strongest combat ability, omegas were weak in combat but the most meticulous, and as for betas, they were relatively average in every aspect. Of course, with the development of technology, the differences between the three were gradually brought closer, throughout history there have been many excellent omega and beta leaders comparable to those of alphas.

Normally, the greater the talent, the earlier the differentiation, but because a significant portion of students do not fully differentiate until after they enter the military academy, students take mixed classes during their first year.

“Weren’t there a few more that needed to……”

“Ji Yuezhi!”

“Did he finally differentiate?” The older student who still had a bunch of flyers in his hand failed to notice that his fellow peer had disappeared long ago. He was still in the middle of lamenting, “If he doesn’t differentiate soon……”

‘Tap–tap’

Black military boots stepped on the gray and white striped marble floor with a crisp sound, and finally stopped. Seeing the exceptionally clean surface of the shoes under the sunlight, the brother holding the faintly printed leaflet gradually stiffened his face.

The leaflet brother slowly raised his head and looked at the military cadet facing him: the other party had a tall figure, a straight back, and his entire profile was like a sword that could pierce the sky. He had a pair of dark, narrow eyes that were shrouded in slight iciness, the left breast of his military uniform bore a yellow rye badge.

It was the badge unique to the Wind Disciplinary Division.

“Ji, Ji ……” the leaflet brother paled on the spot, accidentally dropping the leaflets on the ground, fumbling to tidy up his uniform.

“Two points for unkempt clothing.” Ji Yuezhi looked at the flyers scattered all over the ground, and without any hesitation said, “Two points for littering everywhere.”

The leaflet brother finally tidied up his uniform, and immediately squatted down to pick up the leaflets, looked up bitterly and said, “I, I’m picking them up right now, could you not deduct points?”

Every semester each student is given twenty points to start with, and once the points become zero, he or she will face expulsion. There were a myriad of reasons for point deduction in the First Military Academy, the majority of those reasons were attributed to faculty and the Disciplinary Division, whose director was Ji Yuezhi.

The female alpha behind Ji Yuezhi lifted her light brain to finish scanning the leaflet brother’s face and snickered at his words: “Have you ever witnessed a case where the Wind Disciplinary Division docked points and then refunded them? If you don’t want to get your points deducted, you should comply with the military school handbook.”

The leaflet brother resentfully picked up the leaflets and rose up, then saw the light brain on his wrist transmit a message that four of his points were deducted. He felt suffocated, but once he thought about how members of the Disciplinary Division had silently appeared in the vicinity, he began to gloat again. In any case, many people were getting their points deducted together along with him. By the time he had completely returned to his senses, Ji Yuezhi had already left.

The First Military Academy was the best academy in the Federation, all the brightest were gathered here, this was the cradle of countless Federation leaders, none of the students who came in weren’t outstanding. However, this has led to a problem. The First Military Academy students were extremely rebellious. In order to address this issue, the school set up a special disciplinary division, and the students who can be admitted are invariably the most outstanding among the students.

In short, the Disciplinary Division brings together a group of students with the strongest fighting skills.

“So what if I don’t wear it? Will I have to rely on my uniform to win when I go to war?”

A piercing voice rose at the entrance of the school, causing the surrounding crowd to subconsciously look over, the leaflet brother among them. He got on his tip toes and strained to look for some time, only to see a tall, stocky cadet trying to walk towards the school without his uniform, standing across from a member of the Wind Disciplinary Division.

“Bravo, isn’t this a freshman prick? He’s got some guts!” The leaflet brother tsked and exclaimed, thinking back to the time when he had been this brash and youthful.

Surrounded by the crowd, the cadet’s temper grew bigger and bigger, and eventually, he went as far as to make a direct move against someone from the Wind Disciplinary Division. The senior from the Disciplinary Division was not expecting someone to attack her, so she subconsciously retreated, and this retreat put her at a disadvantage.

There was an uproar in the surroundings. If one looked closer, one would find that the person panting was the senior student.

This freshman was very arrogant, but really did have some skills. He actually subtly suppressed the senior from the Wind Disciplinary Division within a few moves, and even released pheromones. A heavy carbon fire smell belonging to an alpha directly attacked and suppressed everyone present. He had actually differentiated!

To be able to differentiate in advance and be so wild, this freshman was really no joke.

“How can you put on a military uniform with just this level of strength?” The freshman scoffed, dodging the choke attack from a Wind Disciplinary Division senior, and kicked her viciously in the chest, not restraining any strength at all.

‘Snap!’

A black shadow flashed, and the freshman’s foot was kicked hard enough to make a scalp-tingling fracture sound.

The leaflet brother looked at the slender back and couldn’t help but cover his eyes with both hands and let out a painful groan, “Damn, holy hell, his leg’s gotta be broken.” Then he silently spread a crack through his fingers and gloated at the sight of the aftermath.

The freshman’s face twisted as he looked over at the other party: “Two against one? Laozi is……”

He couldn’t finish his sentence, as his neck was pressed down hard by a hand, and the other party tightly clutched him and slammed him into a nearby pillar. The freshman who originally had the upper hand against the senior from the Disciplinary Division was now powerless to resist. The freshman only felt as if the sky was spinning, he had never been in such a predicament before and could not help but grit his teeth, slashing out one arm towards the person behind him. However, things did not go as planned, before his attack could succeed, the other party had already pushed forward, grabbed his hand and wrenched it outward.

”Cra-ack–”

Once again, the tooth-aching sound of a fracture resounded.

With both his hand and foot broken, the new student lost half of his combat power. Ji Yuezhi simply knocked him over and kicked him out of the school entrance, then slowly walked forward and said in a cold voice, “Five points will be deducted for entering the school without a uniform, and ten points for releasing pheromones inside the school for no reason.”

He swept his gaze over at the student from the Wind Disciplinary Division who had come forward to deduct points, the senior who had just fought with the freshman: “Five points for ineffective governance.”

“Yes!” The student from the Wind Disciplinary Office did not hesitate to deduct her own points.

At this moment, the leaflet brother had already put his hands down, and his gaze was gleaming at Ji Yuezhi outside the school gate. As expected, he was indeed the person who had successfully ‘usurped’ the position before differentiation during his freshman year, and had driven the alpha senior, who was ranked in the top ten in the school, out of the position as the Head of the Wind Disciplinary Division, and overhauled the Wind Disciplinary Division.

The leaflet brother fiercely immersed himself in the campus anonymous forums and started a thread: Today I was deducted 4 points by the Disciplinary Division Head~

Within a minute dozens of messages replies were left in a row: How lucky!

Nowadays, getting points deducted personally by the Head of the Disciplinary Division was secretly a symbol of good luck at the First Military Academy. If you get a few points deducted, you can then earn them back next time in class or at a competition. However, Ji Yuezhi doesn’t go out to inspect them every day.

Ji Yuezhi wasn’t aware of what the people around him were thinking. He looked down and carefully smoothed out the folds of his cuffs, when his gaze suddenly stopped.

There was another strange commotion going on around him, the leaflet brother squeezed through the crowd and took two steps towards the entrance and couldn’t help but gasp: Damn, it’s just the first day of school, and all the big shots were gathering.

Parked outside the school was a black car with a glossy finish, an extremely smooth build, and both windows lowered on each side. The person in the driver’s seat was Jiang Hong, the only son of the Jiang family, a sophomore who had entered the top five of the Scarlet Rankings in the First Military Academy and top three of the Alpha Combat Rankings in only one year’s time.

But…… everyone’s eyes unconsciously fell on the person in the back seat.

She had medium-length hair that was freely tied behind with some loose hair strands falling next to her ears, clear facial features, and extremely good-looking eyebrows that left a lasting impression. She was facing sideways to the school gate. It was unclear how long she had been watching what had just happened, with one hand out the window and a cigarette between her fingertips. She brushed off the ashes as if no one watching, and the ashes that fell drifted with the wind down to the red line that divided the territory of the First Military Academy.

It was Zuo Luohuan, the heir of the Zuo family who differentiated in advance into a top alpha at the age of fifteen. According to rumors, her pheromones can suppress all of the alphas currently on file in the Federation, although at present she has never released her pheromones in the school.

At the entrance of the school, Ji Yuezhi’s eyes fell on the patches of soot, spun his heels and walked towards this way.

At the same time, Zuo Luohuan opened the car door, stepped on the ground with identical black military boots, and casually closed the car door. Her military uniform was worn messily with buttons loose. She leaned lazily on the vehicle, lowered her head, lifted her hand holding a cigarette, drew a puff, and slowly breathed out white smoke.

Arrogant! Way too arrogant!

After watching the freshman incident earlier, at this moment everyone stared at Zuo Luohuan and Ji Yuezhi who was about to approach her, feeling tense.

Could it be that the two were finally going to face each other?

The two families belong to the same military committee and lead different divisions, the Midwinter Army and the Seventeenth Army, and have long been in a state of rivalry over military resources.

From the time Zuo Luohuan and Ji Yueyi enrolled in school together, many people began to look forward to the scene of their confrontation, but unfortunately, although one of them has long been differentiated into alpha, but took a prolonged absence from school, and the other will soon be an 18 years old adult, yet has not yet differentiated. As a result, for a whole year, not to mention a face off, it seems that the two of them have not even met each other yet.

Will that scene finally happen today?

Although Ji Yuezhi has not differentiated yet, all the signs are pointing him to differentiating into a top alpha in the future. It was only a matter of time. After all, there are always exceptions to the standard procedures, and there have been powerful figures in history who were late in their differentiation.

People inside and outside the school are now secretly waiting to watch a good show.

However, Ji Yuezhi, who was striding before the red line suddenly stopped. His steps caused a handful of cigarette ash to fly outside the red line, no longer in the First Military Academy zone.

Zuo Luohuan lowered her head and finished her last puff of smoke, her eyebrows quickly wrinkled and loosened. She blew out a wisp of smoke, casually flicked the cigarette butt into the trash can nearby, and raised her gaze to meet Ji Yuezhi’s dark eyes, asking carelessly, “Something wrong?”

“Two points deducted for unkempt clothing.” Ji Yuezhi’s voice was calm.

Zuo Luohuan gave a laugh, raised her military boots to almost touching the ground with the red line, with a vague sense of provocation: “I am still outside the zone of the First Military Academy, which is not under the jurisdiction of classmate Ji.”

“Therefore, no points can be deducted yet.” Ji Yuezhi did not avoid Zuo Luohuan’s gaze, his pitch black eyes were filled with clarity.

The atmosphere was very stiff, just when the crowd thought they were finally going to fight, Zuo Luohuan rose up and stood in front of Ji Yuezhi. The two of them were of similar height. He stared into her eyes and raised his hand to button up her uniform bit by bit.

Welp…

The crowd suddenly lost interest in watching the fun, it seemed like they weren’t going to fight today.

After Zuo Luohuan’s uniform was tided up, only then she stepped over the red line. Just when she was about to collide into Ji Yuezhi, she shifted away and brushed her face against his ear.

Ji Yuezhi did not pay attention to this seemingly provocative gesture, he only heard a light, airy sentence with a slight ambiguous tone.

“Ji Yuezhi…… how come you haven’t differentiated yet?”
