Chapter 60: Mission Choice

Damian walked into the Mission Hall branch situated in the western wing of the Outer Academy and was excited to choose a mission.

Walking in the Mission Hall, the design was similar to the inn that he stayed at with his mother and had a reception at the front with a woman sat there.

It was a large room with a long wall filled with different missions that could be accepted.

"Welcome student. May I see your identification" stated the woman kindly as she lay out her hand.

Placing his academy identification in her hand, she scanned it into an unusual device behind the front counter and a list of information appeared behind her.

Damian couldn't see what was occurring, but Utsusu who could spread his spirit senses around him was watching closely and was curious to how exactly the academy identifications and the device the woman used were made.

"Damian, White Ranked Soul Spirt Student. Has never taken a mission and only recently joined the academy" recited the woman, reading out Damian's information.

It was weird that Damian didn't have a surname, but with his blood bound to the academy, his name wasn't that important and the academy had no need for it.

And even if he was asked for his surname, he was technically an orphan and didn't have one as Sarah wasn't his real mother.

"You may choose a mission of the D rank currently, which is the lowest rank for missions and the only mission rank you can currently take.

Missions are ranked D, C, B and A.

D Rank Missions are available to Outer Academy Students, C Rank Missions are available to Inner Academy Students, B Rank Missions are available to Core Academy Students and A Rank Missions are available to teachers and elders" informed him the woman.

"In this Outer Academy Mission Hall, you will only find D Rank Missions but not all of them are easy and you must be careful about what you choose. By accepting a mission, you are agreeing to trying your best to completing the mission. Each mission has a reward for successful completion that is in the form of contribution points which are equivalent in value to that of the reward that the requestor offered" warned the woman as she returned his ID card to him.

"Thank you for your help" thanked Damian as he accepted back his card.

Walking along the wall with many missions attached to it, Damian began reading through them and none of them were exciting enough or had a large enough reward to entice him to take it.

Most of the missions he came across were simple missions like delivering items and finding lost pets, but many of them didn't have any danger fighting or involved.

With the danger and ability needed to complete the missions being quite low, the rewards were also quite low and ranged from a few contribution points to a few dozen. However, none of them surpassed 30 contribution points.

But what Damian did notice was that the further he went down the wall the harder the missions were becoming.

As he reached almost half way down the wall, Damian could see that the missions were becoming too dangerous and slightly too difficult for him to complete at his current strength.

Despite wanting to increase his strength quickly and gain a large sum of contribution points, Damian didn't want to be reckless and end his life so soon.

[For now I should choose a mission from the first half and after increasing my strength, I will take missions of higher difficulty with higher rewards] decided Damian.

Reading through the different D Rank Missions, Damian without thinking about it chose one that he felt was achievable and had a satisfactory reward.

The mission was to defeat a large wild boar beast that continuously attacked and terrorised a village near the forest on the edge of Aria City.

The beast was estimated to be a Rank 1 Mortal beast, but had displayed strength equivalent to a 2nd Rank Mortal and close to a 3rd Rank Mortal beast.

The mission was recommended for two students, but could be taken by one if they were skilled and powerful enough and would provide a carriage ticket to the village and back.

The deadline for the mission to be completed was 8 hours.

However from what Damian saw the reward seemed to have increased to 70 contribution points from 50 contribution points after 4 White Ranked Students had failed to complete the mission.

A big reason why Akegria Academy was so respected and revered by the commoners was because of their reputation to complete most missions requested in a short time and the academy would continue to increase the reward to entice students to complete the mission quickly so that it didn't affect their reputation.

As he held the mission sheet in his hand, Damian decided he would take it and seeing that it was a two man mission, he could take with him one of his friends and split the reward with them.

Just as he was about to take the mission sheet to the Mission Hall's front receptionist, it was suddenly snatched out of his hands.

"This is my mission. Is there a problem with that" stated a large youth that was big even when compared to Cole.

From his face he was quite a few years older than Damian, but was still only an Outer Academy Student.

Despite him only being an Outer Academy Student, Damian knew better than to believe that he could defeat him with the gap in age.

"What is your name and age" asked Damian.

"Ha, do you want to report me. Go on then, nobody dares to mess with me in the Outer Academy and my brother is a powerful Inner Academy Student. My name is Larry Norris and I am 14" scoffed the student as he began to laugh arrogantly.

While he was laughing, Damian was debating with himself whether it was worth it to make more enemies over a mission.

Shrugging Damian walked away seemingly not wanting to get into conflict, but just as the student let his guard down and relaxed believing that Damian had submitted, Damian suddenly turned around.
