Stronghold In The Apocalypse

Chapter 274: An Old Memory

Obviously, the ordinary zombies are Level 1, Hunters are Level 2, Strikers who are great at sneak attacking are Level 3, while like a Kabutops, super rare pokemon, Screamers are Level 4, and there's the regular Tanker at Level 5, and last but not the least, with a Danger Level of Six, the Z, it might be physically weak compared to the other zombies, but it's ability to control zombies and create a horde makes it the most dangerous and troublesome opponent.

As one survivor had once quoted,

"I'd rather face a Tanker alone, than to face a Z and suffer its horde of monsters"

Sadly, that survivor had already disappeared from the face of the planet, but his words will certainly not be forgotten and will be passed on to the future generations.

On the other hand, mutated animals only had two distinctions.

Nothing really changed much as they are still called Herbivores and Carnivores as their traits haven't really changed much except that they are now bigger and stronger.

In addition, Omnivores also fall under the category of the latter group.

There weren't any levels to separate them as there are also Herbivores capable of taking down Carnivores. Survivors were just warned to not attack a Herbivore and avoid them as much as possible, lest they anger it.

"Good work, you're dismiss"

When Leo suddenly uttered those words, Barnes' face quickly fell and in an almost begging tone, he said, "Boss, w-what about Li-"

"Don't worry about Trejo, he's still alive. Go and rest, someone will get him back"

"Thank you boss!"

Leo shooed him away, while Barnes was quickly relieved and left the room after a quick salute.

After Barnes left, Leo looked at the two soldiers with him.

"What do you think? Is it really possible for a mutated zombie to mutate again?"

With those words, the room once again fell into a discussion of opinions and ideas.

Well, mostly just between the soldiers as Leo already knew the answer from Alex, he just brought up the topic as he knew that they were raring to say something.

It was just formalities.

Meanwhile, Barnes met Bella and the others outside the building.

"Sergeant Barnes, will Leo, I mean the leader, will he send a rescue to the Lieutenant?" asked Bella as she quickly walked over towards him when she saw him leave the building.

Barnes smiled while walking towards them, "Yes, I think it won't be long before Trejo gets rescued"

Hearing the confidence in his voice, Darius couldn't help but open his mouth and asked, "Is the leader sending a number from your group?"

"No, I've asked around and there's a good chance that Sir Alex is the one who will rescue Lieutenant Trejo. Just a guess though, but the people had said that they haven't seen the General ever since we left earlier"

"That's good news then, just a pity that we won't be able to see him in action"

While the group are talking to each other as they walk, something is happening at another corner of the city.

Bam!

"You're one troublesome monster, but you really did mutate huh. It seems this world is in for another beating" Alex said as he dropped the now dead Tanker on a spacious parking lot, and the monster that hounded Bella's group earlier.

Then Alex moved towards a large vehicle of some sort that's covered in fabric and when he removed it, a customized large tipper truck that looked like it came out of the Madmax movie appeared before him with those scary spikes around its wheels and a reinforced front bumper that could skewer anything in its way.

"With the current situation of this city, the person who made this must be strong. No, it could also be a group of people, but seeing this monster left here…Something must have happened that forced them to immediately flee or…they died. Pity, they would have been a great addition to our forces"

Alex shook his head thinking of the lost talents while admiring the piece of work before him. Even he, who had been riding aerospace crafts, was amazed at this.

Alex dragged the corpse of the Tanker with one hand towards the truck and threw it on the back, creating loud thud as the vehicle slightly creaked from the weight of the monster.

Alex boarded the vehicle, he didn't even bother looking for the key as his index finger slightly opened up and a needle like object came out, which he used to hotwire the vehicle.

Vrrrooom!

It didn't even take a second before the truck roared to life. It had been stuck there for too long that the smoke it released was so black it could make anyone look like a charcoal.

"Now, I should go pick up that brat. I hope he's still alive and kicking"

The truck slowly accelerated, and when it got to the main road, it just pushed through the cars that blocked the way, trampling some of them.

Alex didn't even bother checking if the headlights of the truck worked or not as he just drove along the road under the dark mantle of the night, even if the zombies tend to be stronger during the night, he didn't care.

The loud sound of the vehicle had surely attracted the monstesr around the area as zombies started moving towards its direction, but even when the monster had already died, its presence was still able to ward off the mutated monsters from approaching.

Saving Alex the time of dealing with them, but it would probably be useless after an hour or so.

With a swarm of zombies slowly following behind the vehicle, Alex arrived near the building where Trejo is hiding.

Alex got down from the truck and equipped a gauntlet with spikes on its knuckles on his arm that's still made of flesh, and surveyed the surroundings where a massive number of zombies were already flocking to his position.

"Raaahhh!"

Bang!

A zombie got close to him, and as it stretched its decaying arms to grab him, Alex quickly grabbed its head instead and slammed it on the truck, turning its head into a meat paste.

"I still can't get used to its disgusting stench"

The rotting smell of the dead zombie made him frown while shaking his hand, causing the disgusting liquid in his hand to splash all over the ground.

"This world is dying, but at the same time, with the decline of the current civilization, it's also allowed the planet to be reinvigorated with the changes that are taking place almost every corner of the world"

Being by himself and looking at the scene around him, it made Alex reminisce about an old memory that had long been gone.

Alex immediately placed his entire attention at his current affairs and started eliminating the zombies in the streets, before he went to look for Trejo who still thinks he's trapped.

He was working really hard at every task he's given to that sometimes it would even make Leo think Alex is actually a robot, instead of an android.

Fortunately or unfortunately, Leo just didn't know that Alex just didn't want to see a repeat of events that he had witnessed and experienced before, that he had even went as far as making a contract to that "being" to help the next user, to help them in succeeding in their endeavors and at the same time, to get some closure.
