FARM SPRING BREAK 11

“Bang! Bang! Bang!”

Several gunshots echoed in the quiet forest, startling a group of flying birds.

Diane looked at Jin, who was lying under a tree, and asked, “What time is it?”

“Wait, let me check,” Jin grumbled as he pulled out his phone.

“It’s almost 5 p.m.” Jin shook his phone screen in front of Diane. “Do you want to go back?”

“The sun is about to set. It’s time to go back.” Diane looked at the sun sinking slowly in the distance under the cover of tree trunks.

“I don’t mind.” Jin shrugged and nodded in Martin’s direction. “But your boyfriend doesn’t seem like he wants to leave yet.”

Martin stood in the open space in the forest with his back facing them, holding a semi-automatic gun in his hand. He tightly pursed his lips and pulled the trigger repeatedly. It seemed that he wanted to vent his suppressed emotions through the smoking barrel.

Looking at Martin’s back, Diane sighed.

“I’ll go talk to him.” Diane walked towards Martin.

“Martin! Martin!” Diane walked over and shouted at him. “Stop it.”

Martin heard her voice, put down the gun in his hand, turned around, and looked at his girlfriend.

“What’s wrong, Diane?”

“It’s already 5.” Diane gestured for him to look around. “We need to hurry back while it’s still bright.”

“Just wait a little longer.” Martin lowered his head and picked another gun from his bag, loaded it with bullets, and then chambered a round.

His gun skills were learned from games and online tutorials. Although he was not very proficient, he had not made any major mistakes.

“We’ve been out long enough,” Diane shrugged. “If we don’t go back, Ellie and the others will worry.”

“Then you and Jin, go back,” Martin said, holding the newly assembled gun, and turning his back to Diane.

He aimed at the pillow they had taken from the farmhouse and tied it to a stick with a few circles drawn on it as a makeshift target.

“Wait, Martin, hold on,” Diane urged. “You know I can’t leave you here alone.”

Martin seemed to ignore her, focusing on manipulating the gun in his hand.

“Enough, Martin,” Diane said, raising her voice as she saw his demeanor. “I know you’re upset, but you’ve been acting crazy long enough. Now, I’m asking you to put down what you’re holding and come with me!”

“I said if you want to go back, then go back and don’t come to bother me!” Martin suddenly turned and shouted at Diane, who was constantly urging him.

Diane was frightened by his sudden outburst and took a step back, looking at her boyfriend in shock.

“Martin?” Jin who was not far away, also stood up and looked at Martin with confusion. Martin immediately realized he had made a mistake.

“I’m sorry, baby, I’m sorry,” he immediately put down the gun and raised his hands to apologize to Diane.

“Baby, I’m really sorry, I didn’t mean to snap at you, I’m just…” Martin looked remorseful. He took a step forward and wanted to hug Diane, but his arms eventually fell weakly to his sides.

“Oh my God, I’m really…” Martin looked up and spun around aimlessly. He looked like a lion trapped in a cage, appearing both powerless and painful.

“Martin…” Diane looked at his current state and also felt sorry for him. She walked up and hugged him, kissing his face gently.

“It’s okay, baby, I understand, I understand you,” Diane comforted her boyfriend softly, trying her best to make him feel better.

Martin was someone who valued family and relationships very much. What happened today was too difficult for him to accept. Martin hugged his girlfriend tightly, burying his face in her arms and making almost sobbing sounds.

The young couple stood there comforting each other, completely forgetting Jin who was still standing not far away.

As the two people’s actions became more and more intimate, Jin had to stand up and shout at them, “Wait for me here, I’ll go for a walk around and be back in half an hour.”

God bless, he wasn’t interested in watching his good brother’s love show. After saying that, Jin turned and left the place, of course, not forgetting to bring his favorite beer.

Jin hummed a messy tune in his mouth, wandering aimlessly in this dense forest.

Although it was not yet night, the faint light of the setting sun was already unable to penetrate through the layers of branches and leaves. The whole forest had entered the night early.

He walked slowly along the small stream that ran through the forest. It was very dim around, and he could barely see the path under his feet.

He drank beer as he walked and accidentally tripped over something, falling forward and plunging into a pile of mud.

“Ptui! Ptui! Ptui!” The stinky mud covered his face, and Jin hastily swallowed some muddy water. He immediately jumped up, wiping his face with his hand and spitting out water.

After wiping the mud off his face, Jin found himself in front of a swamp. The end of the stream was the swamp, and he had just plunged into it.

“Oh, shit!” Jin cursed in a low voice, then took off his long-sleeved T-shirt and used the clean part to wipe off the mud on his body.

After cleaning himself up, Jin took off his shirt and looked at the dirty clothes in his hand, sighing and squatting at the stream to wash them.

The sun had completely set, and the last bit of warmth disappeared from the horizon. The sky hung a deep blue moon.

The pale moonlight enveloped the entire forest, and the forest at night began to change.

“Gurulu, Gurulu.”

Jin was washing his clothes with his head down when he suddenly heard some strange sounds coming from the swamp behind him. Jin turned around in confusion and looked around in the pale moonlight, but he didn’t see anything unusual.

Did I hear it wrong? He turned around skeptically and continued to wash his clothes.

“Gurulu, Gurulu.”

The sound grew louder and louder, making the listener uneasy. Jin couldn’t comfort himself by saying he had misheard this time.

He swallowed and turned back, looking around vigilantly, but still found nothing.

It couldn’t be. Jin frowned and put down the clothes in his hand, slowly approaching the swamp. That was when he discovered the source of the sound.

“Gurulu, Gurulu.”

In the moonlight, Jin saw a string of black water bubbles rising from the center of the swamp. It seemed like something was about to crawl out of the rotten and smelly mud.

“What on earth?” Jin stared in amazement at this strange sight, not knowing what was going on.

“Gurulu, Gurulu.”

More and more bubbles emerged, growing more and more urgent. The entire swamp seemed like a boiling pot, constantly churning with dark muddy water.

Looking at the obviously abnormal swamp, Jin felt a little scared. He couldn’t help but take a step back, and then he stepped on something.

It was the beer can he had just thrown away. In the moonlight, the metallic can reflected a faint silver color under Jin’s feet.

By some strange impulse, Jin picked up the can and held it in his hand. Then, he took a few bold steps forward and threw the can into the center of the churning swamp.

“Clang.”

The tin can hit the swamp, making a loud sound that seemed very abrupt in the quiet forest. As the beer can fell into the swamp, the churning water suddenly quieted down.

Everything just now disappeared, and the swamp became quiet as if nothing had happened.

“What the hell!” Jin rubbed his eyes and almost suspected that everything that just happened was just his own hallucination.

The sudden silence was even more eerie than the previous churning. Jin stood by the edge of the swamp, and the night breeze made him shiver uncontrollably.

The coolness on his skin woke Jin up suddenly. He looked at the terrifying forest that had become dark and ran toward where Diane and Martin were.

He ran so fast that he forgot to take his clothes, and the small but sharp branches left bloody marks on his skin as he passed through the bushes that blocked his way.

Now, Jin only had one thought in his mind, which was to leave this place.

Jin, who fled in panic, did not know that shortly after he left, something flew out of the swamp and landed exactly where he had been standing.

It was a short-handled sickle. The handle had been corroded by the swamp, showing a rotten bluish-black color, but the crescent-shaped blade was still as smooth as new.

The tip of the crescent-shaped blade was firmly nailed to the ground covered with a thick layer of decaying leaves. The serrated blade flashed a ghostly light under the blue moonlight.

“Snap!” A dark green hand reached out from the swamp and grabbed the grass on the edge of the swamp. On the other side, Zheng Wei, Allen, and Ellie were still searching for Martin and others, who knows where they ran off to.

It was already dark, and Allen took out a flashlight from his bag and gave it to the other two.

They walked into the forest in the direction indicated by Ellie, but they didn’t find anyone.

“Have they already gone back?” Ellie asked while slapping the mosquitoes constantly flying towards her.

Allen looked at the sky and frowned, “It’s possible.” The forest was so big that the two groups of people might have just missed each other.

“We’ll go forward for 30 minutes. If we still can’t find them, let’s go back first.” Allen hesitated for a moment and made a decision.

Just as Zheng Wei was considering whether to use the assembly whistle, three big red characters suddenly popped up on the screen.

[Evil Spirit Awakens]

When Zheng Wei saw those words, his face turned pale instantly. He didn’t expect the evil spirit to appear at this time.

Martin and the others still didn’t know where they were. If they encounter the evil spirit first, it would be disastrous.

Zheng Wei’s mind went blank, and he murmured instinctively, “No.”

“What did you say, Zheng?” His voice was not loud, and Allen didn’t hear what he said. He looked at Zheng, only to find that Zheng’s face was terribly ugly.

“What’s wrong with you?” Allen was taken aback, thinking Zheng was injured.

“We can’t go back.” Zheng Wei didn’t have time to explain to them now, and he couldn’t explain clearly, “We must find them immediately.”

Before Zheng Wei finished speaking, there was a faint scream in the distance, and several loud gunshots sounded at the same time.

That was the voice of Diane!

The three of them looked at each other and immediately ran in the direction where the sound came from.
