Romanian Eagle

The 698th chapter Poland campaign (1)

Inside the military airfield near Lviv, it was brightly lit as Eder talked with Feleit in Bucharest. On the concrete runway, the fighter planes looked majestic and majestic under the lights.

Here are the RU18 dive bombers called Romanian Stukas. It's just that the Romanian RU18 dive bomber is so obscure compared to its German counterparts in the Spanish Civil War.

However, as the latest dive bomber, the biggest difference between the RU18 dive bomber and the Stuka is that its landing gear is more retractable and the horsepower is stronger. The 1350-horsepower V-type liquid-cooled 12-cylinder engine is enough to allow the aircraft to reach a maximum cruising speed of 380 kilometers per hour. At the same time, its ammunition load is also up to 1900kg. It can carry two 600kg bombs at the same time to carry out precise bombing on the target, with a maximum combat radius of 750km.

In order to ensure the accuracy of the bombing, the RU18 dive bomber absorbed Stuka's technology and can also dive bomb the target at an almost right angle of 85 degrees.

Therefore, the RU18 dive bomber must be its main ground attack aircraft for the Romanian Air Force, and it can be seen from the densely lined up of the same fighters at the airport waiting to take off.

It's been a sleepless night! When the mission was issued, everyone was quite excited. The ground crew maintained the plane, refueled and mounted bombs, and prepared for takeoff, while the pilot kept memorizing the target and route he was going to attack.

"Ding bell." At this moment, the phone in the pilot's duty room rang, and the leading commander picked up the phone and heard the voice of the superior commander inside. "The eagles took off immediately and carried out the bombing mission as planned."

"Take off now!"

The commander immediately gave the order, while the sky outside was still pitch black.

Every pilot quickly grabbed his equipment. They had been waiting for a long time. They quickly ran to their plane from the pilot's duty room.

After turning on various switches and after strict maintenance, the state of these aircrafts is quite good. With the irritating sound of a burst of electric current, the motor rumbled, the liquid-cooled engine spewed black smoke, and then came a larger vibration.

One after another, the RU18 dive bombers were quickly activated. Then slide to the runway, follow the pre-determined order, the two-plane formation, roll and take off!

On the wing, the navigation lights are shining in the sky, but they are not yet on.

After the planes took off, they turned to the north, and they were going to fly to the territory of the Poles.

In addition to them in the air, there are large groups of Peregrine RF20 fighters. These kings of the sky need to give priority to helping them solve the air threats they may encounter.

This is also the main fighter of the Romanian Air Force to seize air supremacy, and they are responsible for the task of seizing air supremacy. This task should be very simple for them, because the fighters currently owned by Poland are basically old-fashioned, and there are very few new aircraft adapted to the current operations.

At present, the Polish Air Force has a total of about 1,900 aircraft, but very few of them are front-line combat aircraft, and 650 of the 1,900 are training aircraft. The other 700 were obsolete aircraft of various types, or were of no use when the war broke out, and less than 400 were really useful.

Among them, the main fighters are PZLP.11 and PZLP.7 with less than 200 fighters. Although these two fighters were good in the early 1930s, they still fell short of the modern fighters of Romania 1. The top speed of the P.11 fighter was only 365 kilometers per hour, even lower than the speed of most bombers.

In addition to these two planes, there are two more interesting bombers in this air raid. One of them is a twin-engine bomber codenamed RU28, which was developed by Romania for high-speed bombing purposes. Therefore, this is a high-speed tactical bomber with a maximum load of 3100KG, a maximum speed of 425 kilometers per hour, and a maximum range of 2100 kilometers. It is also the most valued fast bomber by the military.

In addition to this fast bomber, there is also a four-engine bomber that attracts the most attention, which is a high-altitude strategic bomber. At that time, in order to deal with the threat of fighters with better and better performance, the Romanian military needed a new bomber to complete strategic bombing behind enemy lines. Considering that it needed to carry out ultra-long-distance bombing, there would be no fighter escort, so it could only fly at high altitude and high speed. Think of a way, and in the end, the bomber chose high-altitude bombing as the basis.

Its code name is Big Swan; and the military's requirement is that the aircraft must reach a limit of 11,000 meters, a maximum speed of 420 kilometers per hour, and a maximum range of 3,000 kilometers.

The Coanda Aircraft Factory, which took over this task, immediately stepped up its technical public relations, because this is Romania's first strategic bomber.

The research team of Coanda adopts a four-engine design, a conventional aerodynamic layout, a single lower wing, a single vertical tail, and a retractable landing gear at the rear three points. The whole machine adopts a metal structure and a streamlined shape. At the same time, in order to enhance its air self-defense capability, the machine is also designed with up to 12 12.7 mm self-defense machine guns. These machine guns are distributed in the nose, belly, back, tail and sides of the fuselage. They are equipped with teardrop-shaped machine gun turrets, which can shoot in all directions in the air and have excellent air firepower.

The bomber uses four 1,200-horsepower liquid-cooled engines, and its maximum speed can reach 458 kilometers per hour. Due to the use of turbochargers to improve performance, the aircraft's limit has also reached 10,900 meters (not up to the standard).

As for the maximum range, it is also due to the use of a new 1200-horsepower engine, and its range can reach 3,170 kilometers. As for the bomb load of 7500KG, it can be regarded as an excellent strategic bomber that basically meets the requirements of the military.

The main reason is that the military's requirements are too high, which is a test for Romania's aircraft manufacturing capabilities. The excellent performance of the new strategic aircraft naturally leads to a higher cost. Its unit price is as high as 410,000 lei, and it is also the most expensive fighter in the Air Force.

Therefore, the military gave the RU80 number immediately after the finalization, and only ordered 98 of them, and then purchased another batch because they were very satisfied with the use.

Therefore, only 279 of the bombers have been produced at present, and this series is divided into two strategic bomber wings (194 and 224 strategic bomber wings).

And this multi-Polish operation, the Air Force also put it into it. Mainly to examine its bombing effect and combat performance.

These black fighter planes, taking advantage of the glimmer of light in the sky, flew to the hinterland of Poland, which they knew nothing about.

When the aircraft strikes first, the army on the ground is also not far behind.
