A young girl called out, she sat shaking appearing as though she wasn’t able to stand. However with a glistening body in true RPG fashion, a slime steadily advanced towards her. It’s speed equaled about one fifth of an adults walking speed. Or put simply, incredibly slow.

As expected of the thing holding the title of ‘weakest monster’. It aura utterly fails to inspire fear in people, although for this girl it’s a strong opponent.

Even if it’s slow, it’s still a monster, even if it’s only corrosive, even if it can only melt clothes it’s still a monster…. Actually that last one would be a pretty strong ability.

*Slimes don’t melt clothes in this game.

But people who don’t possess jobs are vulnerable, if they’re attacked by a monster it’s not possible to put up a fight. That’s considered common sense in this world.

Therefore even if it’s not particularly dangerous, it’s a serious situation to be in if you’re under 16 in this world. The girl was in tears, unable to move.

Zephyrus hid behind a tree watching the situation.

Because it felt so real I felt a powerful urge to rush forward and do battle with the slime. But i waited patiently behind a tree, it was heartbreaking to watch. The girl just sat there, shaking as the slime slowly as if taking it’s time drew closer.

Why? Because the title of this quest is[protect the girl being attacked by a slime]. Yeah, attacked…. To complete this quest, you have to wait for the slime to actually attack the girl.

The slime was slow and the girl didn’t move forcing the player to time their entrance. Although this is still a tutorial quest, albeit a hidden tutorial quest. And for that reason, sorry little girl, wait just a bit longer. Because the nasty part of the quest is, if you go out and eliminate the slime now, the quest won’t actually show up.

I stared intently waiting for the right moment. The slime inched forward until it was roughly two meters from the girl then stopped. It’s body began to wiggle as though preparing for an attack.

Now!

I dashed out from behind the tree as the slime jumped at the girl.

“Kyaaaaaaaaaaaaaa”

The girl let out a scream but by that time I was already next to her.

“Tei!”

I swing the sword hitting the slime and dropping it’s hp to zero. It disappeared as it hit the ground leaving behind a drop of slime jelly.

Even without a job if you have a weapon you’d be hard pressed to lose to a slime. Its small fry.

I was relieved at the announcement in my head, if I’d messed up here there’s no do overs. I need a save and load feature please.

“………h,huh?”

The girl behind me whom I’d just saved sounded confused. Yeah, I’m also confused because it was a slime…..A slime! Get a hold of yourself woman.

“Are you ok? That was dangerous wasn’t it but it’s OK now. I’ve defeated the slime.”

I don’t know what was dangerous about it but I felt like it would help calm the girl if I said it. The girl although now realizing she was safe just stared at me with a blank expression.

Hm? It’s different from the game? I thought she was supposed to say something like ‘ thank you, please take this potion as thanks for saving me.’

“Hey, can you hear me?”

“H, huh? Oh uh sorry, no wait… uhhhh, thank you for saving me.”

“Y-yeah, no problem.”

For some reason she turned a little red.

“I came to gather potion material but when I was attacked I thought it was all over.”

“I see, well it’s a good thing we ran into each other then.”

I don’t really care who was attacking who any more just hurry and give me my potion please.

“I’d like to thank you so, would you mind accompanying me to my house? ”

“……..huh?”

Wait…. The reward isn’t a potion?

“I-I live in an alchemy shop so I just thought if you came I could reward you some how. Theres not any kind of deep meaning behind it or anything!”

For some reason she started to talk really fast but I’d already stopped paying attention. So it’s as I thought the reward is a potion but, I didn’t think that you got invited to her house in the game? Although you can have a normal conversation here as well so, maybe the real version is slight different from the game?

“Alright! Lets go! Let’s go now!”

“W-wait, I am the one that invited you but what kind of appetite is that, hang on a second.”

“What if another slime shows up?”

“A!”

Since she was hesitating for some reason I grabbed her hand and started walking. She made strange noises as I pulled her along but I ignored it.

This world and the one I was used to are subtly different which got me even more excited. In the past I was said to be a expert, there was nothing I didn’t know. But now, the tension is building even higher, isn’t it the best!?

And so, I rushed off towards the alchemy shop.
