Chapter 23: OH THE HORRORS

I should have tried harder to warn them,

But convincing had been a problem,

And now I watch, frozen still,

As I saw those creatures, gnaw and kill.

Half have successfully retreated,

While others have not,

The elderly and sick were eaten,

Like flames does to a stubborn moth.

They were some, that are panting and obviously terrified,

While others are crying, huddled on the side,

Some are still, their thoughts are wacked,

While some are simply, just looking back.

Silent sobs filled the night,

And no one talked a single word,

Now I stare at the pitch black sky,

The Devil was, so true to word.

Intelligent, and witty as best,

Surely you wouldn't, expect any less,

And those who refused, to listen to God's word,

Are like helpless worms, snatched over by hungry birds.

They slowly began to believe,

And their trust I slowly achieved,

But when the beasts were still unsatisfied,

And the food becoming harder to divide,

Human selfishness, began to show,

And the next part, oh, you surely want to know...

Perhaps the Devil had entered their hearts,

And there's nothing else they could have done,

Perhaps they lost their faith and minds,
