Mr. Handsome I Love You

Chapter 38:Ch 38: More than you think

The elevator opened then and he led her out of the building and down the street three blocks to the bistro. Once they got their salads and coffee, he made apologies for having her wait.

"I understand you're busy." She conceded, "but that hawk lady of yours was tempted to bite my hand." He looked perplexed, "Hawk lady?" Flushing she continued a little sheepishly, "Your secretary."

He burst into a deep throaty string of laughter, "I'll explain things to her." He said with some difficulty finally able to bring his laugh to a chuckle, "She's used to some of my other acquaintances, and had to deal with the unfortunate episodes of women scorned."

"Oh." She immediately understood. She doubted she would take rejection from Owen very well either. "I keep my personal life away from business as much as I can, but some women don't take well to rejection." Looking at him sitting across from her made her understand why.

Even sitting there casually he was unmistakably charismatic. He was leaning back comfortably in his chair with his legs crossed as if the world revolved around him.

Most likely it did. "I take it this has happened a lot." She said with a frown. "More than you think." He stated honestly.

Then he studied her worried expression, "Abigail, that's in the past. I'm marrying you. Did I tell you how beautiful you look? You could stop traffic with that dress."

There wasn't one pair of male eyes that weren't on her just walking down the street. Maybe he went too far with the gift because she was ravishing.

He certainly didn't like the feelings of jealousy raging through him. Never in his life did he want to break the jaw of another man ogling his companion or plucking their eyes.

It was a marriage of convenience and he knew it, but she'd take the compliment anyway and still couldn't help blushing profusely. "Thank you." She tried to keep the disappointment out of her voice.

Did he mean to give up all of his women for her? They never really discussed sex at all except for that brief moment in his penthouse. Just the thought of the subject made her blush.

Thankfully he thought it was because of his compliment. Time to change the subject. " Alice wants to bring her Beau over for…" 'No." He said curtly not even letting her finish.

She stared at him in exasperation, "Owen, don't refuse this for her." "I will end up thumping him." He said as his expression darkened. "No, you won't. You have to let her grow up sometime." "Like you did?"

He swore to see her expression, "Abigail, I'm sorry. I should have never brought that up. It's in the past." She swallowed hard and continued, pretending he didn't say anything. "She's more responsible than you give her credit for."

"Abigail…" "Owen, please leave it alone." She said beseechingly, "Let's stay on the subject of Alice, please." He finally nodded in resignation and she continued.

"Now she didn't have my upbringing, she at least had other people in her life that influenced her and she would know better than…well…"

"You mean, about sex?" he queried, "I can't talk to her about those things, but you can, can't you Abigail?" Oh Lord, Alice could probably tell her more than she knew. However, here again, they were back to sex, "I can try."
