⟨7⟩ Dragon Hunt

Tae-ram’s party arrived at the Divine Mountains, where the Green Dragon is said to reside. All they could see were rocks of a pale yellow color. It didn’t seem strange at all, as if it were a mountain made of rocks.

The group continued to walk through steep canyons.

As time passed, Tae-ram kept falling behind. The rest of the group, except for him, initially worried about Tae-ram struggling but eventually started competing to take care of him.

The atmosphere became tense. At this rate, it seemed like another skirmish would break out like last time…

Tae-ram recalled the early days of their journey when they would carry him, embrace him, and give him rides, causing a commotion. He thought deeply about a way that nobody would complain and finally came up with a plausible idea.

“Hey…”

Before Tae-ram could speak, the three people, excluding Amil, spoke up simultaneously.

“It’s tough, isn’t it? I’ll carry you, of course!”

“If you want, I can give you a hug.”

“Where do you feel uncomfortable? I can help you with that.”

“Well…”

“If you’re not willing, then step aside Your Highness. Tae-ram! I can do either side.”

“I wish I could give you a ride… But if I transform into a polymorph, I might attract the dragons living here, so it’s a shame.”

“…Let me say something!”

As Tae-ram shouted, the three people closed their mouths. Seeing the three of them who listened to his words well, Tae-ram felt a strange sense of satisfaction. They seemed like well-trained puppies.

“It’s embarrassing, but I think our schedule might be delayed too much. How about you create a carriage with magic and we ride there?”

Since everyone was already worried about Tae-ram, his suggestion was naturally accepted.

With the decision made, Amil gathered some branches, and Kairan carved the rocks with wind magic to create wheels. Fran connected them, and in no time, a small carriage spacious enough for one person was completed.

“Thank you.”

Tae-ram, who was about to collapse, climbed onto the carriage with a grin. However, the problem was not completely resolved.

“Me! Let me push the carriage!”

As Kairan raised his hand quickly, Fran immediately stepped forward.

“Since Kairan has worked hard to make it, I’ll just push.”

Following suit, Se-ho also stepped forward.

“If that’s the reason, I didn’t contribute at all, so I’ll do it.”

“It’s nothing to brag about.”

“Considering our physiques, I’m the most suitable for pushing. It seems like it would be tough for you.”

It wasn’t a big difference, but Se-ho had a better physique than Fran.

“If someone sees us, they’ll think there’s a huge difference between us.”

“Anyway, it’s true that you have a smaller physique than me.”

“In that case, I’m the biggest here, so I’ll push!”

Surprisingly, Kairan was the winner. Finally, the childish argument between the two men ended.

“…Do as you please.”

“Don’t hurt yourself, Tae-ram. Hold on tight.”

With those words, Kairan, like a Siberian Husky pulling a sled, swiftly raced on the white rocks.

“Kairan! You’re, you’re going too fast!”

Due to Kairan’s rough driving, Tae-ram felt like the goblin meat he had for breakfast was rising in his throat.

“I’m exhausted, Kairan.”

“Sorry, sorry. It’s just fun pushing.”

Kairan slowed down. Tae-ram had gotten somewhat used to the carriage by now, so he asked Kairan something he had been curious about.

“But, Kairan…”

“What?”

“Are you sure it’s okay? I mean, they’re kindred spirits, after all.”

“If it were Hazling, it might be a problem, but today we’re hunting an adult dragon, so it’s fine.”

“To be honest, I feel sorry. Innocent dragons are being sacrificed because of my goals.”

No matter how much it was for the sake of the story, Tae-ram felt reluctance in harming a creature that could communicate. If there was a way to extract the heart without killing it, he would have chosen that option, even though it might be impossible for creatures like rabbits or turtles.

Sensing Tae-ram’s dark emotions, Kairan spoke gently.

“They say the dragons living here are extremely fierce.”

“Fierce?”

“Yes. They have caused significant harm to humans and given other dragons a lot of trouble. I don’t do much, but I receive reports as a lord.”

“I see. Even though we know each other, it still bothers me.”

“I saw them when I was very young, so I don’t remember their faces. It’s unsettling, but it’s a necessary evil. Don’t burden yourself too much.”

“Thank you for comforting me.”

“The most important thing is that it’s weakest in its adult form.”

“I shouldn’t say this, but… I hope no one gets hurt. But with Kairan here, it should be fine, right?”

“Ah… I’m sorry. I won’t be able to participate in this battle.”

“Why?”

“Dragons leave lingering spirits when they die. It would cause problems if it’s revealed that I was involved. Even I would be guilty of killing our kind. That’s why I looked for the weakest one.”

“Is it okay with just the three of us?”

“Amil is dangerous, so I’ll just have him provide support… and the prince and Fran are quite strong for humans. It should be fine!”

As Kairan spoke, Tae-ram started worrying about the other side. What if Se-ho and Fran end up fighting each other during the battle?

“I’ve already told Fran.”

“Already? Kairan and Fran seem to get along well.”

“Yes. I like Fran because he treats me well. We have fun talking about magical theories too.”

“I was concerned about what happened last time.”

“Even if Fran tried to poison me, it wouldn’t work. He’s smart, so he wouldn’t dare to touch me.”

Kairan confidently smiled, exuding a sense of self-assurance. Tae-ram thought that perhaps the reason Kairan could maintain such innocence was that he was always strong from the moment he was born.

It was the moment when Tae-ram saw a new side of him that he had only seen as a naive and innocent person.

“…Let me say something!”

As Tae-ram spoke, the three of them immediately fell silent. The sight of the three of them quietly waiting for Tae-ram’s next words was so cute that I couldn’t help but smile.

The idea of the carriage was great, but Tae-ram’s commanding presence as he gave instructions was cool. I saw a new possibility.

With a satisfied smile on his lips, Tae-ram was truly the queen! Or maybe a little devil? Could the genre change like this?

Fighting dragons is scary, but… I know I should be resting now, but…

I couldn’t stop the inspiration that kept coming.

* * *

The road remained calm for a while. It was eerily quiet as if an earthquake had just occurred or a typhoon was about to blow. Amil, who had doubts, spoke cautiously.

“It’s so quiet.”

“It’s even more suspicious that we don’t feel any presence.”

“Yes, it feels like something is about to jump out.”

“It’s ambiguous…”

As the party members expressed their opinions one by one, Tae-ram also began to feel something strange. The Divine Mountains were a place as abandoned as the Killain Mountains. However, it was strange that monsters were not visible to this extent.

But even if something happened, Kairan would take him and run, right? Tae-ram felt somewhat relieved.

After giving the carriage a push, Kairan’s figure became blurry and suddenly disappeared.

“…Kairan?”

Startled, Tae-ram heard Kairan’s voice in his head.

– Tae-ram, can you hear me?

He looked around, but Kairan’s figure was nowhere to be seen.

– You’re surprised, right? Since I can see you, nod your head if you hear me.

Tae-ram quickly nodded his head. Was it a form of telepathy?

– I just cast magic on you, so think of speaking to me in your mind.

– Can you hear me, Kairan?

– Yes, I can hear you. Your voice is still beautiful even when I hear it like this.

– …Thank you. But why did you suddenly disappear?

– I sensed the presence of a green dragon, so I teleported for a moment. I wanted to take you with me, but it was difficult to make arrangements because of the carriage. I’m sorry.

– I see. It’s because of my stamina; there’s nothing I can do about it.

– The green dragon is probably still watching that area.

– The situation has turned, and now we are the targets.

– Be careful. Pretend you haven’t noticed anything and go to Fran. I will cast a protective spell on him.

– Okay, I’ll do that.

– They will attack us directly, and if that happens, this whole area might melt away. Come to my side as quickly as possible before the battle starts.

Kairan’s words made Tae-ram shudder.

– I’ll let you know if the Green Dragon attacks.…

Kairan’s voice abruptly cut off. Tae-ram had a bad feeling about it.

Suddenly, the sky darkened, and the visibility decreased. It was because of the enormous size of the dragon that blocked the sky.

The dragon was flying towards the group. The first thing that became visible was its short and chubby tail covered in scales. It had a long reptilian body, a short neck, and three-pronged feet with sharp claws. Its large wings on its back fluttered with an intimidating presence.

“Lian’s favor upon thee!”

As Fran quickly recited the spell, a white barrier formed around Tae-ram.

“Tae-ram! Go to Kairan!”

“Tae-ram, hide as far away as possible!”

“Tae-ram, be careful.”

“Don’t worry about me. No one should get hurt!”

From within the carriage, Tae-ram heard Kairan’s voice again.

– I’m here.

Tae-ram ran desperately toward the direction where he faintly heard Kairan’s voice. Kairan was crouched in the bushes like Tae-ram during a battle. Despite the serious situation, Tae-ram couldn’t help but smile. Dragon Lord Kairan looked so insignificant and cute.

“Don’t look at me pitifully. I’m a little upset.”

“It’s because you’re cute.”

“If you’re convicted of killing our kind, you usually undergo a forced hibernation. Then I won’t be able to see you. I don’t want that. Instead, I’ll provide a little support without being noticed.”

As Kairan gestured in the air like a commander, everyone, including Tae-ram, was enveloped in a golden barrier.

“What about the prince?”

“The prince is a sword master. Even with a protective barrier, it will break anyway.”

Tae-ram regretted setting the prince as a swordsman. It was frustrating to rely only on Prince Kirik’s abilities. Still, he was the only human to earn the title of Dragon Slayer in the novels.

Se-ho, please don’t get seriously hurt. And everyone else too.

While Tae-ram clasped his hands together and prayed, the actual battle began.

“Amil! Don’t get too close. Your sword can’t defeat the dragon.”

“Yes! But I will provide as much support as I can.”

A faint crystal light enveloped Se-ho’s sword.

“Fran, don’t play around this time.”

“…I understand. With the blessings of Lian upon you!”

Although Fran had an unpleasant expression, he cooperatively joined in due to the situation. Watching him, Tae-ram felt relieved. For some reason, it made him happy that Fran cast a proper supportive spell on Se-ho for the first time.

The dragon’s restless green eyes focused on the three of them. Soon, the dragon opened its enormous mouth, and a massive surge of magical power began to form. It had such a strong presence that even Tae-ram, who couldn’t sense mana, felt the pressure.

“Is that its breath? It seems like it’s about to attack. Can the three of them defend against it?”

Anxious, Tae-ram shook Kairan’s shoulder.

“Closely?”

Kairan’s words made Tae-ram even more anxious.

The surge of magical power emitted by the dragon shot forward like a laser beam. Tae-ram couldn’t bear to witness that sight and averted his gaze. Se-ho blocked the dragon’s breath head-on with his sword. It was an inevitable choice since he knew Tae-ram was behind him. With an enormous noise, Se-ho’s feet were caught, and everything around, including trees and rocks, disintegrated as if melting away.

“Fran! Cast a supportive spell quickly!”

“I got it!”

A few steps away, Fran rapidly chanted the spell. Amil realized he couldn’t intervene and retreated like Tae-ram and Kairan.

After a while, the mana-depleted dragon descended to the ground.

The dragon flew low in the air, swinging its heavy tail towards Se-ho, who stood at the forefront. Through quick movements that were imperceptible to the naked eye, Se-ho evaded or parried the attack.

With each clash between the sword wrapped in chi and the tail, fragments of energy scattered in all directions. The intense defense continued. Neither Se-ho nor the dragon could deliver a fatal blow to each other, and their wounds continued to accumulate.

Watching the battle unfold, Tae-ram felt like his insides were about to explode.

At that moment, there was a change in the ongoing battle.

“Oh divine Lian, block the movements of the enemy before us! It’s caught. Prince!”

After dozens of attempts, Fran successfully cast the paralysis spell. While the dragon wavered, Se-ho swiftly cut off the tip of the dragon’s tail. The dragon, with a large wound and a collapsing center, staggered. Se-ho thrust his sword into the dragon’s side.

“Fran! Your dog-like attack magic, quickly strike there!”

“Don’t command me! Oh divine Lian, unleash the devastating mace that will annihilate the enemy before us!”

Dozens of small hammers of light attacked the open wound of the dragon. The dragon’s scream pierced the ears. Without giving it a moment to breathe, Se-ho and Fran continued to assault the dragon without mercy.

“Not bad.”

Tae-ram found Kairan, who was relaxed as if watching a movie, annoying.

After several more attacks, Se-ho finally managed to sever the dragon’s arm. The dragon screamed and thrashed wildly. Se-ho and Fran seemed exhausted, but they didn’t let up their attacks. Finally, Se-ho’s sword struck the dragon’s lower abdomen.

“Oh divine Lian, unleash the fierce blade upon the enemy before us!”

Following that, Fran’s blade of light sliced through the dragon’s neck.

The dragon collapsed as if crumbling.

“I’ll leave the rest to you.”

“I’ll take a break too.”

Confirming that the dragon wasn’t moving, the two collapsed. It seemed like they had poured out all their strength.

“Prince! Fran!”

Tae-ram rushed to the two who had fallen.

“Kairan! Don’t you have any healing magic?”

“I have something similar! I’m not an expert, but I’ll give it a try. Healing!”

Kairan’s magic improved the faces of the two, but their breathing remained unstable.

“Kairan, just one more time! Use it more generously! Okay?”

“Oh, I got it. Healing, healing, healing!”

Although Kairan’s healing wasn’t as effective as Fran’s recovery magic, with repeated attempts, Se-ho and Fran’s breathing stabilized. Relieved, Tae-ram finally turned to Kairan.

“Are you okay?”

Kairan seemed to be at his mental limit, slumped over.

“I’m exhausted. This is the first time I’ve depleted so much mana in my life.”

“At this rate, even Kairan might collapse. We need to move these two quickly, but what should we do?”

That’s when Amil, with a lively expression, approached Tae-ram and Kairan, holding a piece of flesh dripping with blood. Unwilling to know, but the piece of flesh Amil was holding seemed to be a part of the green dragon.

“Kairan! I’ll make a special dish for you tomorrow morning!”

“Wow, really?”

“Of course. It’s the first time I’m using this kind of meat, so I’m excited!”

“If it’s difficult to handle the ingredients, let me know. I’ll help too.”

It was fortunate that Kairan regained his energy, but Tae-ram didn’t want to eat that special dish. Wait a minute. Isn’t Kairan eating the dragon just like a chicken eating chicken? He doesn’t know. Tae-ram decided to stop thinking about it.

“I’m sorry, but please move these two first.”

“Yes! I’ll do it. Kairan, please put the meat over there.”

“Okay!”

Amil, who was empty-handed, swiftly lifted Se-ho and Fran onto his shoulders like a burden.

* * *

Tae-ram’s party returned to the Killain Mountains for reorganization.

“I’ll try to research if it’s possible to use this as a medium for dimensional travel. I did make a magical device for it before, but I haven’t tried it yet. I’m not confident, but the output seems to be sufficient.”

Saying that Kairan inserted the heart of the green dragon, obtained through Se-ho and Fran’s hard work, into his rare.

The rest of the group set up camp around the rare.

A day passed, and Kairan, who didn’t come out, worried Tae-ram, so he sent Fran, who had some magical expertise, inside. Not long after entering, Fran came out.

“Kairan said to wait at least two days.”

“So the schedule is delayed.”

“In the meantime, we can take a break.”

“Tae-ram is right. Or else, Prince, you can go back alone.”

Just as a debate between Se-ho and Fran was about to begin, Amil, who was cleaning outside, poked his head in.

“I want to go to that village!”

“The village?”

“Can’t we? I was planning to replenish our supplies…”

At the mention of supplies, Tae-ram’s eyes lit up. He saw this as a chance to break away from Amil’s monster cooking.

“Yes, let’s go! I’ll carry the luggage.”

“Really? I’ll prepare quickly! Oh… the luggage is fine.”

Quietly listening to Amil and his conversation, Fran and Se-ho naturally joined in.

“Tae-ram, may I come along too?”

“I’m going too.”

“Yes, of course. Come to think of it, this is our rare chance to travel, and we haven’t properly rested.”

“Since traveling wasn’t the purpose, that’s true.”

“Do you really need to make a big fuss about it, Prince?”

“Getting cheekier, Fran.”

“Cheeky? Those are just words I can’t let slide. Who do you think you are, Prince?”

“You’re a citizen of the Empire of Runever, and I’m a prince.”

“The shrine guarantees an independent status. The only one above me is the divine Lian.”

Before the second round could begin, Tae-ram quickly separated the two.

“Fran, just in case, could you set up a barrier around the camp? Prince, please help Amil.”

“Yes. I may not be as skilled as Kairan, but I’ll create the strongest barrier possible.”

“Understood.”

Se-ho went toward Amil, and Fran began reciting an incantation. Tae-ram sighed inwardly, thinking that the two were becoming more childish as time went on.

“Oh divine Lian, create an impenetrable barrier that no one can trespass!”

With a resonating sound, a barrier of light enveloped the camp. Although it was Kairan’s territory and there wouldn’t be any trouble, it felt more secure this way.

In this way, the four of them descended from the Killain Mountains to the nearest village.

The village they arrived at was a quaint medieval-style village filled with colorful buildings.

“It’s quite different from the capital.”

Tae-ram thought that, positively, compared to the dull villages around Runever, the colorful village of Konn was beautiful.

“This is your first time in Konn, right, Tae-ram?”

“Seems like it.”

“Konn has developed its own unique culture as it is far from the capital. It’s one of the few self-sufficient villages.”

Tae-ram listened with interest to Fran’s continued explanation.

Unlike the capital, which is strictly governed by laws, Konn has looser regulations, which attracted many artists who migrated there, resulting in the development of cultural industries.

– A small village far from the capital. It has a different atmosphere compared to the capital.

It was just a one-line setting. They hadn’t even decided on a village name. Tae-ram found it fascinating how the parts he hadn’t set were filled in so wonderfully. It felt impressive, but also strange.

Taking advantage of Tae-ram being lost in his emotions, Fran naturally hooked his arm through his. Seeing this, Se-ho opened his mouth to say something but then remembered Tae-ram’s embarrassment and sealed his lips.

“Tae-ram, look over there! The traditional dance looks so elegant.”

With no one to interrupt, Fran clung to Tae-ram more actively. He even subtly touched his arm, but Tae-ram was oblivious to everything.

“It’s really impressive….”

Konn was vibrant and lively. Musicians play unique instruments, beautiful melodies of the bards, and various dazzling performances from magic shows to acrobatics. Everyone except Se-ho seemed to be having a satisfying time.

At that moment, Amil suddenly called for Fran.

“Fran! Please help me.”

“What’s the matter?”

“There’s an ingredient I want to buy, but it might be too heavy for me to carry alone.”

“If it involves physical strength, Prince can help more than I can…”

“But it might require magic!”

Amil dragged the slightly resistant Fran away haphazardly.

“Well then, Tae-ram, Prince. Let’s meet at the square fountain later!”

Before Tae-ram could respond, the two disappeared like the wind.

Se-ho and Tae-ram were left alone. Tae-ram was the first to suggest.

“Shall we explore a bit more together?”

“Yes, that sounds good.”

With those words, Se-ho reached out his hand to Tae-ram.

“If get lost, I have to deal with the hassle.”

“It would’ve been nice if you didn’t say that.”

While grumbling, Tae-ram still tightly held onto Se-ho’s hand. Their palms were touching completely, almost as if they were kissing, and for some reason, Tae-ram felt embarrassed. When he looked to the side, he saw that Se-ho was also blushing from his fingertips to his cheeks.

Tae-ram was enveloped in a ticklish feeling.

The two walked side by side amidst the bustling crowd, exuding a youthful atmosphere.

“It’s been a while since we’ve talked so comfortably.”

“Yes, that’s true. During our journey, we were playing the roles of the main character and the prince.”

“After observing you for a while, I think you should quit school and start acting when you go back.”

“Don’t tease me.”

“I’m serious. You have the perfect face for it, like a rare gem.”

“Only in terms of appearance? That’s oddly unpleasant.”

“Did you seriously think you’re a pure and innocent gem with your dirty personality?”

“What? Who do you think I am? I’m good enough to have a decent personality.”

“A headstrong, choleric type. That’s exactly how I see you, nothing more and nothing less…”

“I don’t want to hear it from a sharp-tongued social misfit! You don’t even have any friends.”

“I have friends!”

“Oh, really? Is your quota of ten friends already filled?”

“I think it’s better than being annoyed by a senior who complains that he can’t be a flower boy.”

“I never said I wanted to be one!”

Something came from somewhere that stopped the two of them, or more accurately, Tae-ram, in their tracks.

He smelled something familiar, something that made him feel nostalgic.

“Chicken? And it’s seasoned.”

“…Wait a moment, senior!”

“I can hear the sound of chicken frying.”

Tae-ram followed the scent as if he was possessed. Se-ho reluctantly followed behind him.

A small, old, earthen brick house in a corner had a crude signboard that said “Chicken Dish.”

Tae-ram couldn’t contain his excitement.

“Now I can read simple cooking terms, you know? That’s chicken, right? It must be!”

“Well… it’s also lunchtime. Should we go in?”

“Yes! Let’s go quickly!”

Contrary to its appearance, the interior of the restaurant was quite clean, and the food arrived quickly after they placed their order. The dish in front of them looked like chicken, no matter how they looked at it. Tae-ram was thrilled. He had seen pizza-like dishes here, but the chicken was something new.

“Stop staring and start eating.”

Se-ho, who was getting tired of Tae-ram’s excessive happiness, looked on. Tae-ram, ignoring Se-ho’s gaze, reverently picked up a chicken leg and took a bite. A savory flavor filled his mouth. The outside was crispy, and the inside was moist.

“It’s delicious….”

Tae-ram fought the monsters of bizarre cuisine he had been eating until now with a fierce determination and devoured the chicken, again and again.

“Take your time, senior. It’s one person, one chicken.”

Seeing Tae-ram absentmindedly laugh at Se-ho’s serious remark, Se-ho became fed up.

Tae-ram, with bits of chicken stuck in his mouth, choked on his food, and Se-ho quickly handed him a glass of water.

“That’s why I told you to eat slowly.”

“…Thank you.”

“Please be careful. Do you want to choke on chicken and die?”

As Se-ho said that, he gently patted Tae-ram’s back.

“You’re the reason for this, you know? Until a moment ago, you were an arrogant prince, but suddenly you’re talking about eating chicken alone like a commoner…”

“That’s because of me?”

“Not exactly, but…”

Se-ho smirked at Tae-ram, whose mouth was protruding.

“In any case, Senior, you change your mind so easily. It’s quite…”

“It’s quite what?”

“…It’s nothing.”

Saying that, Se-ho’s face turned bright red.

“Are you embarrassed? Why do you find me cute again?”

“It’s not that…”

“Then what is it?”

Tae-ram made a mischievous expression, recalling their early encounter at the camp.

“…Yes! I thought it was cute. Why on earth would someone like senior… get angry at someone like me?”

Unexpectedly, Se-ho’s sudden acceleration caused Tae-ram to drop the chicken he was eating. Instead of teasing him, he ended up being counterattacked.

“You’re making me feel embarrassed by being so upset.”

“It was you who spoke first, senior.”

“Haha… I was just joking around. Let’s forget about it and eat the chicken.”

“Every time you laugh like that and act nonchalant, someone like Fran clings to you.”

“Suddenly?”

“I’ve been thinking for a while that you’re too lenient with Fran.”

“Is that so? I think I draw the line myself.”

“Just earlier, Fran was touching you all over, and you just stayed still.”

“It’s true that I can’t push him away forcefully. Maybe it’s because he’s the one I worked the hardest on?”

“He’s the one? Fran is older than us.”

“That’s true, but…”

“Even if you’re the original creator, I hope you keep some distance. The main character fades away.”

“I didn’t know you cared so much.”

“I care a lot. I wish Fran wouldn’t approach you, senior.”

“Is that so?”

Feeling awkward, Tae-ram stabbed the chicken in front of him and shredded the meat with his teeth.

“I hope senior would be cautious with Fran.”

“Well… Fran’s characterization is extreme, but… I listen to what you say.”

“That’s what’s frustrating. Fran is already deviating from the original. Do you remember what I said at the beginning?”

“…That this place is real?”

“That’s right. If we deviate further from the original, we might lose all our memories. I want to go back with you, senior.”

“…I feel the same way. I want to go back with you.”

“Senior…”

Se-ho quietly looked at Tae-ram and slowly approached him. Their faces got closer and closer.

Is he going to kiss him? Although he didn’t dislike the idea, Tae-ram closed his eyes tightly. Finally, Se-ho’s hand touched Tae-ram’s face. Tae-ram, who was tense, unconsciously swallowed nervously.

In the next moment, Se-ho gently wiped the corner of Tae-ram’s mouth with his finger.

“Huh?”

“You had sauce on your mouth.”

“I see.”

When Tae-ram met Se-ho’s curious gaze, he felt embarrassed by the misunderstanding. Damn it, he feels so stupid.

Tae-ram buried his face on the table as it is.

“Senior? Why are you suddenly like this?”

“I don’t know! Just leave me alone for a bit.”

* * *

Fran’s embedded ring shimmered incessantly.

“Even if you’re the original creator, I hope you keep some distance. The main character fades away.”

Se-ho’s voice echoed in Fran’s mind. The conversation that followed was unfamiliar to him.

“Fran? Why are you acting strange all of a sudden?”

Amil looked at Fran, who had stopped walking, with confusion. Original creator? Main character? The content of their conversation continued to be unfamiliar to Fran.

“It’s nothing. Do you have anything else you need?”

“No, I don’t. Thank you for your help.”

“Shall we go to the square now?”

“Yes! There’s a shortcut over there!”

With a gentle smile, as usual, Fran followed Amil, who was leading the way.

The ring given by Kairan was a magical item that allowed them to eavesdrop on conversations within a certain distance. Fran carefully organized the conversation between Tae-ram and Se-ho in his mind.

Tae-ram. Prince. They’re having an interesting conversation. The margin of error, force, turning into a fairy tale, and losing memories. Is this the secret they’ve been hiding?

Fran recalled the suspicious moments.

The time Tae-ram spent with the prince in such a short period. Tae-ram calls the prince by an excessively unfamiliar nickname. Acting as if they knew the future at times. Above all, the strong attraction felt from the moment they first met.

This world is a story created by Tae-ram. Perhaps even the feelings were predetermined. However, Fran didn’t mind such things at all. He could only think of countless ways to prevent Tae-ram from leaving this world.

Tae-ram should take responsibility for the story he created and stay by his side until the end.

If Tae-ram deviates from the original, he’ll remain here, right?

If all his memories are lost, will he be able to keep him by his side forever?

* * *

Fran came to Tae-ram, who was resting after dinner.

“Tae-ram, would you like to go for a walk with me?”

“Yes, I was just thinking of going for a walk.”

“That’s fortunate.”

When Tae-ram readily accepted, Fran smiled brightly. Tae-ram felt good seeing Fran so full of energy today. Even at nighttime, Fran was beautiful. He likes him a little… no, quite a lot, and they have clearly expressed their desire to become friends. It should be fine.

Unaware of the fact that Fran had just eavesdropped on their conversation, Tae-ram remained at ease.

“There’s a very special place in Konn. Would you like to go?”

“Konn? Won’t it be too far?”

“We can teleport using magic, so don’t worry.”

“Then, sure!”

“Just a moment, please.”

Before Tae-ram could give permission, Fran firmly grabbed his hand. Tae-ram flinched at the slightly chilly touch of Fran’s hand.

“To teleport, we need to be connected like this. Please hold on tightly.”

“Yes, I understand.”

“Oh, Lian, guide us on the right path.”

With Fran’s incantation, the two of them were enveloped in a pile of light.

When Tae-ram regained his senses from the unfamiliar sensation of being pulled somewhere, he saw a small building in front of him.

“It’s really Konn. It’s fascinating. Shall we go all the way to the Demon King’s Castle like this?”

“We can only teleport to places we’ve been before. It requires a lot of mana and spatial coordination, so we can’t use it frequently.”

“I see. By the way, this building looks unique.”

The small building had a colorful and funky appearance, resembling an amusement park ride.

“What is this place?”

“It’s a place where you can get closer to the sky.”

“…The sky?”

“You’ll know when you go inside. The two of us.”

Instead of answering, Fran bought a square wooden piece that resembled a ticket at a counter-like place.

“Is this an entrance ticket?”

“Yes, please follow me.”

As they entered the entrance, a woman wearing a brightly colored clown outfit appeared.

“Hello! Welcome to Sky Park, where love comes true! Just go through this way to the room for the two of you, nnggg!”

The chattering woman didn’t even give them a chance to respond as she pushed the two of them into a room.

“Fran, where on earth is this…”

Tae-ram was speechless at the sight before him. It was a different world. The room, shaped like a round dome, was filled with stars of various sizes.

“It’s beautiful…”

The stars moved around like fish in the sea, twinkling and shining. Stars were spinning round and round, and stars moving up and down.

“Wow, the stars are moving!”

Tae-ram couldn’t close his mouth. This must be a planetarium created by magic. The scale was incredible.

“You can freely fly around inside here.”

Suddenly, Fran, who was floating in the air, pulled Tae-ram upwards. With a sense of floating, Tae-ram’s body rose into the air. If virtual reality advanced further, would it feel like this? Excited, Tae-ram moved around like a dog paddling, exploring here and there.

“Is it really that amazing to see stars moving?”

“Yes! Is it common in this world? These stars are so cute. They feel like they’re alive.”

“But you, Tae-ram, are cuter. Right, here, you can do things like this too.”

Fran took a small star and placed it on Tae-ram’s hand. The star danced on his palm and soon escaped from his hand.

“These stars here. Are they the same as the stars in the sky?”

“They’re not the same, but they are all fragments of real stars.”

Fran explained about constellations while moving slowly. The names of the constellations and their origins were all unfamiliar to Tae-ram. He could now truly feel that the world he created was alive and breathing. It felt awe-inspiring, and his heart swelled with emotion.

“How did you know about this place, Fran?”

“A priest who took care of me brought me here. It was a very special experience for me, as an orphan. When I was young, even having a meal was difficult, so a place like this was a luxury for me.”

When Tae-ram designed Fran, he put a lot of effort into his appearance and personality. However, as he struggled to fill in other aspects of his backstory, it became tedious for him. So, he left all the secondary details, like family relationships, blank.

The neglected empty spaces in Fran’s life turned everything upside down. It was probably his fault that he didn’t have a proper family. Tae-ram’s expression quickly darkened.

“You don’t look well. Did I force you to come with me?”

“Oh, no! I think it’s an interesting place. I’m just a bit tired…”

“Should I cheer you up? Give me your hand.”

“Like this?”

Tae-ram slowly opened his palm.

“O divine Lian, please embrace us warmly.”

As Fran recited the incantation, one of the floating stars was surrounded by light. After a while, a faintly glowing star crystal fell into Tae-ram’s hand. The crystal, which changed colors depending on the viewing angle, was mysterious.

“Just watching it makes my heart feel warmer.”

“It is said that love is fulfilled when you possess a star crystal. Taking it like this is prohibited, but since I’ve been here often, one should be fine, right?”

Suddenly, Tae-ram thought of Se-ho’s face. It would have been nice if Se-ho had come with them…

“Who are you thinking of?”

Fran was smiling gently, but the air around him turned cold. Tae-ram thought that if he were honest here, Se-ho’s death flag would be confirmed.

“I was thinking about my comrades. Amil, Kairan, and the prince.”

“Why am I not included?”

“You are here with me now. I’m just thinking about them.”

“Tae-ram…”

“For showing me this amazing place, thank you. I’m glad we came together.”

Se-ho had warned him to be cautious of Fran, but Tae-ram couldn’t abandon him. It was because of his negligence in filling in the details that Fran became a person without a family. He couldn’t inflict further pain on Fran, not even his feelings towards himself.

“Tae-ram is traveling to return to his original world, right?”

“That’s right.”

“If Kairan finds a way, will you go back immediately?”

“If time allows, I want to stay here a little longer. Eventually, I will return, but it’s a pity that I won’t be able to meet everyone. But I’m determined to go back.”

“Even if I and the prince ask you not to go?”

“Yes…”

Fran closed his eyes and pondered.

“Fran?”

“Can’t I follow you to your world?”

“But… you have a foundation here too…”

“I have no strong attachment to this place. I only need Tae-ram.”

Fran’s heavy heart burdened Tae-ram. On the one hand, he felt sorry for his feelings that would never be reciprocated.

In the original story, the main character doesn’t return to the original world but chooses the prince. If he sees that ending, he will return to the original world. Tae-ram hoped that at least his current lie would provide some comfort to Fran.

“If there is a definite way, and if Fran wants to, we can go together.”

“Thank you for saying that, Tae-ram.”

Fran’s lips lightly touched Tae-ram’s cheek and withdrew.

“Did you not like it?”

In response to Fran’s words, Tae-ram turned his head vigorously. From him, he felt the lingering scent of mint and a faint warmth that unsettled his heart. Seeing that, Fran shyly smiled.

In his pounding heart, Tae-ram felt sorry for Se-ho.

I was sorry for Fran, but I forced him away from Prince Kirik and Tae-ram.

And that night, I regretted it bitterly.

During the day, there were plenty of beautiful and handsome men in Konn, so even at night, I sneaked out to admire them. But to my surprise, would you believe it? Fran and Tae-ram were affectionately entering the sky park. It seems that he has a delicate touch after all.

I secretly followed the two of them. Did they notice? I have the skill to hide my presence that I learned at the servant training school. Thanks to that, I could easily enter the sky park.

Tae-ram was looking around with innocent eyes like a fawn, fascinated by the sky park. Fran looked at him with an affectionate gaze that could make one die from adorableness. It was already a heartwarming scene.

Suddenly, Fran approached Tae-ram and kissed his cheek. I felt like my heart dropped to the ground. I couldn’t hear what they were saying, but when Tae-ram said something, Fran smiled. It was like the blooming of a flower, refreshing and lovely.

I wanted to scream, but I bit my lip and held back. From now on, no one should interfere. As long as Tae-ram is happy, it doesn’t matter. But I hope the prince will make more effort.

The two promised days flew by in the blink of an eye, and a week later, Kairan appeared and immediately apologized to Tae-ram.

“Sorry! I tried my best, but it’s not enough.”

Knowing the outcome already, Tae-ram calmly thought about the next development in his mind while pretending to be pitiful on the outside. Now he just needed to get anyone to mention the Demon Kingdom or the Demon King.

“You all worked so hard, it’s a shame.”

“I’m really sorry…”

Kairan, looking dejected, bowed his head and fiddled with his hands. His slumped shoulders looked pitiful. Tae-ram gently stroked his head and comforted him.

“It’s not Kairan’s fault. I’m grateful that you went to such lengths for me.”

Then, Tae-ram lowered his eyes and created an endless atmosphere of kindness and compassion.

“It’s okay if I can’t go back. I’m worried about my family, but… I’m sure they’re doing well.”

Tae-ram’s acting had progressed so much from the awkward beginning that it was on par with Se-ho’s. Se-ho, who was beside him, played his part accordingly.

“Tae-ram… Don’t be disheartened. I will make sure your wishes come true.”

Se-ho’s gaze, like a role model for Tae-ram’s acting, was exceptional.

“Thank you, Prince.”

Others also joined the heartwarming atmosphere.

“I may not be much help, but I’ll do my best.”

“I feel reassured, Amil.”

“You’re dependable, Tae-ram.”

“I’ll also look for a solution.”

“I believe in you, Fran.”

“Me too! I’ll search for any rare items that could be used as a medium.”

“Don’t push yourself too hard, Kairan.”

Tae-ram looked around and smiled brightly.

“Thanks to all of you for caring, I feel energized. I’ll think of a solution too. It seems like a high-output medium would be helpful…”

Tae-ram deliberately dropped a hint, and Fran quickly picked it up.

“I think it might be possible if we have the heart of a higher being, comparable to a dragon.”

“A higher being… Will it lead to another fight?”

“Don’t worry. I’ll make sure to protect everyone.”

“I’m worried that someone else might get hurt instead of me.”

“Tae-ram, you’re so kind. I’ll try my best so that no one gets hurt.”

While saying that, Fran gently comforted Tae-ram by patting him. Then, Se-ho forcefully pushed away Fran’s arm which was soothing Tae-ram’s back.

“I think Lian’s heart would be good.”

Se-ho’s statement crossed the line, and Tae-ram cautiously observed Fran’s reaction. However, his expression had already turned cold.

“What about the Swordmaster’s heart? If it’s strong enough to defeat a dragon, it should have a good chance.”

Fran put his hand on Tae-ram’s back again. Once again, Se-ho pushed his hand away.

“If we can’t use Lian’s heart, what about the High Priest? It’s symbolic.”

“Are we going to fight again?”

“I won’t shy away from the fight I’ve come this far for.”

Here they go again. Tae-ram sighed and rubbed his temples. Deeper conflicts seemed to have arisen between Se-ho and Fran, exacerbating their already strained relationship.

Se-ho didn’t seem to be acting when dealing with Fran. He was naturally trying to steer the conversation toward the Demon Kingdom… It’s messed up. He’ll just go inside and get some sleep.

Just as Tae-ram was about to head to the barracks, Amil broke through the gloomy atmosphere and cheerfully spoke up.

“What if we defeat the Dragon Lord?”

“The Lord?”

“Yes! I heard the Lord is the strongest among dragons.”

Amil’s naivety halted the fight between Se-ho and Fran, but it created another problem.

Kairan looked at Tae-ram with a pitiful gaze, silently asking for help. It felt like the sound of a puppy whimpering.

Kairan is becoming more like a dog than a dragon. By the way, it seems like he can’t freely reveal that he’s the Dragon Lord. Is he the only one who can stop this?

Tae-ram wore a troubled expression as he spoke to Amil.

“I don’t think we can go for the Dragon Lord.”

“Why?”

Well, because he’s a comrade. Tae-ram couldn’t keep up with Amil’s innocence and spoke with a pained expression.

“We barely managed to defeat the weakest Green Dragon. It would be difficult to deal with the Dragon Lord, don’t you think?”

“With the stronger Prince and Fran, it might be possible. I’ll train harder too!”

Amil didn’t back down.

“We’ve already failed once by challenging a dragon, so trying again with another dragon seems inefficient. Kairan, you also think the same way, right?”

“Yeah! I agree with Tae-ram. Let’s think of something other than dragons. Please…”

Kairan crossed his arms and fell into deep thought. It seemed like his small brain was spinning. After pondering for a while, he cautiously opened his mouth.

“What if we go to the Demon Kingdom?”

“The Demon Kingdom?”

“Yeah. Let’s defeat the Demon King. It might be challenging, but if I join the fight, it’s possible! We can’t cooperate with dragons, but dealing with demons shouldn’t be a problem.”

“If you’re saying it like that, I’ll prepare myself too.”

As Amil was convinced, the others also responded positively.

“Not a bad idea.”

“I’m in favor too. If it’s demons, I can contribute as well.”

Tae-ram felt relieved that the situation was progressing as in the original story.
