Tritus went after Obstruction.

Because the latter could not utilize magic, Tritus caught up to him easily.

'Hm?' Tritus turned slightly after sensing a presence from behind. As soon as he did, he saw Tritus coming after him.

'This human is...'

Obstruction frowned slightly as he recalled the information Deception shared about every human mage with high-level magic attainment in the Human plane. Based on what he remembered, Tritus was an Archmagus and was a leader of a faction called the Templar Code. The strength of this faction was on par with the Royal Army.

Or at least that was what everyone believed.

As far as Obstruction was concerned, Tritus had nothing to do with the new Dark Sage. So why was he there? Not to mention, he was emitting such potent killing intent that anyone who sensed it would wonder if he had any blood feud with Obstruction. An impossible scenario, given they did not know each other, much less met.

'Be careful. Tritus is the new Dark Sage's ally.'

Layla's voice sounded in Obstruction's head.

'This is the first time I am hearing about it,' Obstruction replied, finally understanding why Tritus would appear there. Nevertheless, Obstruction felt indignant by the fact that Deception's information was lacking.

Then again, Obstruction could not blame Deception because the information she possessed came from Layla's successor, Haylee.

Obstruction did not think much about Layla's remark about her and Haylee's differing knowledge and plans. But it was no longer the case.

Sensing Obstruction's indignation, Layla explained, 'We only discovered his affiliation with the new Dark Sage. Anyway, you have to be careful. Based on what I've been told, something about him has changed.'

While warning him, Layla was also examining Tritus's soul. Since she could not use any magic, she relied on the ability she developed over the years of being a Soul Emperor. It was not as potent as Soul Scan, but she could look into a person's soul.

Soul Scan allowed Layla to look further into a person's inner thoughts and 'self.' Because of this, it could also affect that person's thinking, which was why Layla sometimes used it as an offensive attack.

As for the ability to look into a person's soul, it was a little different. The things Layla could see were pretty shallow. She could examine a person's soul and see some superficial information about him or her.

An example of such superficial information was the type of magic they possessed, their innate ability if they possessed one, and their mage level.

Layla frowned slightly after sensing that she could not look into their souls like most of the soldiers under Emperor Euan and the Conclave members in Ravenpass earlier.

Obviously, Kyran came up with his own mark to counter her Soul Scan. But she was only using an ability. How come Kyran's mark was still in effect?

'Don't tell me, he also anticipated that I have an ability similar to Soul Scan?' Layla complained and frowned in indignation.

Her guess was not far off.

After Malek told Kyran about the possibility of Haylee possessing two innate magic, he adjusted his mark to work on any Soul magic or ability.

'I am the Soul Emperor! Don't underestimate me!' Layla thought through gritted teeth and examined Tritus's soul once more.

On the other hand, Obstruction did not think much about Tritus. He had thought that someone powerful was after him. But after remembering Tritus was only an Archmagus, Obstruction no longer cared.

'No matter what, he is only an Archmagus. He will not be a threat,' he replied while taking out a speed boost magic item, using it to increase his speed.

Although Obstruction did not care about Tritus, he would not be negligent when the latter was after him. He would do what was necessary since he did not want to waste time.

Besides, he was confident in his defenses and speed, even without using magic. If Tritus still managed to shorten the gap between them, Obstruction still had a few magic items he could use to boost his speed.

He could use them only because the estate's veil did not affect magic items. However, it still affected their usage since storing new magic energies in them was impossible.

Anyway, using magic items once or twice to deal with an Archmagus was more than enough.

'No, he's no longer an Archmagus!' Layla exclaimed as soon as she finished examining Tritus's soul. 'He is already a Legendary!'

Wooosh!

Just as Obstruction heard Layla's warning, he heard a sharp sound breezing toward him. Without turning to check what made that sound, Obstruction crushed a small rectangular black plate that hung on his belt.

A semi-transparent magic barrier appeared and protected Obstruction just as a concentrated magic energy beam pierced through at him.

The concentrated magic energy beam collided with the newly deployed magic barrier and got deflected.

Tritus, who released the energy beam, was surprised at how Obstruction's magic barrier deflected his attack.

'Interesting,' he thought with a smile, not one bit discouraged at how easily Obstruction countered his attack.

On the contrary, he was exhilarated that the latter could still put up a fight even though he could not use magic.

Kyran, who was observing the exchange between them from afar, was also intrigued. But unlike Tritus, who was excited about fighting Obstruction, Kyran was intrigued at how the latter's magic barrier deflected the former's energy beam.

Most of the time, magic barriers absorbed an energy beam's attack until they exploded. Few could deflect attacks as if they were made of glass. Not to mention, Obstruction was not using his magic but a magic item.

'Tritus, get a sample of that item he used to create that barrier.'

Tritus raised his brows questioningly at Kyran's request. But he did not voice his doubts and only replied with an affirmative, 'Yes, Master.'

Tritus only used raw magic energy when he tried to attack Obstruction.

Now that he knew Obstruction would not be defeated easily, Tritus started getting serious.

He waved his hand, and a golden trident appeared on his side. With a swift movement, he grabbed the trident's shaft and whirled it around him. As he did, an illusory image of a sea serpent circled him, letting out an inaudible roar.

Still, even if the sea serpent's roar was inaudible, the force from it erupted and swept through every direction with Tritus at the center.

Obstruction's mood darkened as the force reached him.

When Layla told him that Tritus was a Legendary, Obstruction was not that affected. In his view, not even a Sage would pose a threat, much less a Legendary.

But when Tritus took out the golden trident, Obstruction had a sense of foreboding. And this feeling was amplified after seeing the sea serpent and sensing its force.

'That sea serpent is no ordinary weapon sentient,' he thought.

On the other hand, Layla also felt something amiss with that sea serpent.

She is the Soul Emperor. Thus, she knows the difference between a magic weapon's sentient and a living soul.

And that sea serpent is not sentient but a bonafide soul!

Layla's expression darkened as she realized that Kyran did not intend to have Tritus fight Obstruction one on one. With that golden trident's addition, the latter was now faced against two opponents with high magic attainment!

'That sea serpent is not a sentient. It is a true living soul!' Layla warned Obstruction at once.

Obstruction's eyes glowed malevolently. To think that the new Dark Sage would send two people to stop his plight.

Others would have felt honored if the new Dark Sage sent two 'powerful' people to stop them, but Obstruction only felt offended.

He is a Sovereign. No matter how many people Kyran send after him, they are nothing. Even without using magic, he can defeat them with ease.

Thus, Obstruction felt offended at Kyran's thinking that two people were enough to stop him!

Three small rectangular black plates flew out of Obstruction's belt and toward Tritus.

Seeing the approaching black plates, Tritus did not slow down. Instead, he pointed the golden trident at them, and with a swift wave, three illusory sea serpents came out of the trident's tip.

The three sea serpents glided in the air and confronted the black plates.

When the sea serpents were only ten meters away, the gold lines appeared on the black plates' surface. They circled in a timely manner, and when they finally stopped, they formed the points of a triangle.

CRACKLE! RIIIING!

A crack appeared at the center of the triangle, and the magic energy in the surroundings fluctuated. The magic energies were then attracted to the crack, turning into a ball of multi-colored magic energy. Its size increased with each passing second.

'Not good!' Tritus thought, sensing a foreboding from that ball of energy; however, before he could do anything, a flash of light appeared, which went straight toward the three illusory sea serpents.

The flash of light was actually the forming ball of energy, and it easily pierced through the three sea serpents, destroying them instantly.

But the flash of light did not disappear. Instead, it continued toward Tritus.
