[Incident]

The inside of the dungeon was surprisingly not bad.

I was expecting a darker, damper place, but that was not the case at all, and since there were lamps at regular intervals, we could proceed without any problems.

I see.

This must be why it was said to be suitable for beginners.

Me included, 4 people were exploring the dungeon this time.

――But clearly, the Alberses, the Ehrenbergs, and the Lekrusts had sent their people to the dungeon ahead of us to scout and eliminate danger, if there was any.

Even though they had declared that they wouldn’t interfere… then again, they did it secretly, so they likely wouldn’t make a direct interference.

Anyway, let’s look over our members.

Tayte.

Jarvis

And Eureka.

We only needed Raul, then all members of the hero party in【The Rise of the Weakest Holy Swordsman】would be assembled.

“I wonder what kind of monsters would we encounter,” Jarvis wondered out loud.

“I-I hope we could avoid fighting, if possible…” Eureka said, sounding nervous.

“Monsters’ appearance rate here is low, so we may not even encounter any, you know?” Tayte pointed out.

They all, except Eureka, sounded so relaxed like they were on a stroll or something.

Then again, while it was true that this was our first time exploring a dungeon, other than Eureka, we all were well above your average adventurers when it came to combat skills.

Even Eureka was famous as one of the best in the field of magic in the original storyline, so her potential itself was most likely quite high. Though I hadn’t seen a glimpse of it yet.

After a while, we started to see some kind of light.

A white light quite unlike the light emitted by the installed lamps.

“What’s that…?”

It might be dangerous, so we approached it slowly and cautiously—but it proved to be unnecessary.

“It looks like an ore,” Jarvis said as she reached out to touch the source of the light.

As she had said, the white light came from lumenstones stuck in the wall of the dungeon.

“Lumenstones, huh…” I muttered.

“We learned about it in class. Lumenstones are essential to people’s lives.”

As Tayte said, we were taught the importance of lumenstones in economic history class. It could be found in many dungeons and was easy to process, so its price was low. But since it was a daily necessity, it was always high in demand.

“Let’s each take one home as a souvenir!” Tayte suggested.

“I’ll second that. It’s perfect to commemorate this trip.” Jarvis nodded.

“That sounds good! What do you think Lord Barrett?” Eureka turned to me.

“I agree, of course.”

It wasn’t a particularly valuable item, but it was the first item we discovered in the first dungeon we challenged as a party. And it was the right size to take home as a souvenir.

I took out a specialized tool and tore off a lumenstone from the wall, then handed it over to Tayte.

“Wow… it’s so beautiful.”

“Y-yeah.”

Tayte stared at it almost as though she was enchanted.

I was gonna say “You’re more beautiful,” but I became worried that I’d come across as too cringe, so I held back my words. Though I felt that it was too late to worry about something like that now.

With such feelings in my heart, I proceeded to tear off lumenstones from the wall for the rest of us. But right when I finished tearing off the last lumenstone, it happened.

A loud sound came from the deeper part of the dungeon.

“W-what was that…?” Tayte asked, sounding nervous.

“How unfamiliar, hmm,” said Jarvis.

I stood protectively in front of the scared Tayte and readied the Holy Sword.

Simultaneously, Jarvis took a battle stance.

So did Eureka. She clenched her fists and raised them in front of her… huh? Was she going to fight barehanded?

As I was surprised by Eureka’s unexpected action, the source of the loud noise came into view.

“Bumoo!”

It was a wild-boar-shaped monster, and it was charging in our direction.

Its name was Black Boar.

And as its name suggested, its fur was pitch black like the night, and its length easily exceeded 3 meters.

“Oh, it’s a big one, Barrett.” Jarvis turned her gaze towards me.

“Yeah. It’s probably the strongest type of monster in this dungeon.”

Strongest, I said, but it was only limited inside this dungeon.

It was big, strong, and fast, making it kind of troublesome to handle. But that was all.

It could be said that, in a way, you still had a long way to go if you couldn’t deal with an enemy of this level.

“It’s our first battle. Let’s make it flashy,” I said.

“I’ll second that.”

“I-I’ll do my best!”

Jarvis, Tayte, and I were all fired up.

…Wait, huh?

I didn’t think I hear Eureka’s voice.

“Eureka?”

“…………”

Eureka wordlessly glared at the Black Boar.

Something seemed off about her.

Her atmosphere felt similar to… Raul just before going berserk on our first mock battle.
