Infection: Dying Days

Chapter 44 - Danger (1)

"T-Trina?"

Staring straight at the body of my beloved laying on the bloodied floor not to far away from me, I couldn't help but exclaim despairingly, surprising Desmond and the others.

Although, I couldn't see most of her body due to her being covered up in green paper, I could clearly see the hand that was poking out from underneath it. And on the wrist of that hand was an object I could never forget.

...It was the bracelet I gifted to her for our anniversary! Just like how my bracelet had Trina's name engraved on it, my name was engraved on hers. They were identical.

We'd gotten it for each other to signify that we would always be together no matter what, wherever she goes, I go and wherever I go, she goes. The underlying meaning of these two bracelets were simple but endearing.

But because these two bracelets are identical, I can tell that the body I'm looking at is...

….

No! It can't be her! I refuse to believe that it's her! She can't be dead! SHE CAN'T!

Wanting to make sure what I'm thinking isn't true, I rushed towards the body as fast as I can.

"Faith, wait!"

Seeing me run towards the body that could possibly be my beloved Trina, Desmond snaps out of his surprise and tries to stop me. But thankfully, I was a little bit quicker than him. Just when he was about to grab the edge of my blazer, I was able to slip by.

"Trina!"

Ignoring the sticking and gross feeling of the blood as I knelt down next to the body and hurriedly tear off the green paper. And upon lifting it, I froze in shock...

"NOOO! TRINA!"

"Come on wake up! Please, please wake up!"

What will I do without you?!

===============

"NOOO! TRINA!"

Hearing Faith's heartbroken scream, I clenched my fists in silence and watched her grieve. If I was a tad faster, I probably could've stopped her from seeing it.

The body of Trina was severely mangled, her left leg was bent in an abnormal way, a few of her fingers were chewed off and chunks of her flesh was missing from her arms, abdomen and neck...The infected did a real number on her.

"Come on, wake up! Please, please wake up!"

Hugging the body of Trina real tightly, Faith said with a cracked and high pitched voice. You can sense the sadness and hopelessness within her words.

"..."

I wanted to walk up to her and pull her away from the body but I don't think she'll be willing. The best thing we can do right now is let her cry it out. Hopefully, by then she'll calm down.

"What's all the commo- holy sh*t!"

A boy exclaimed as he rushed around the corner. Faith's shout caused him and many of the other students to rush over here.

When they saw the scene of carnage before them, some gasped and screamed in shock while others covered their mouth trying not to vomit.

It was a sh*t show. I wanted to warn them beforehand so that so we could avoid a situation like this or at least tone it down a bit.

"Everyone calm down!"

"Everyone quiet!"

David and I said simultaneously. He, just like me, wanted to get everyone under control.

Looking at each other momentarily, we decided our roles.

He'll calm down the crowd while I talked to Faith. Guess, she'll have to cry it out on the way to the garage.

"...Faith, we need to go."

"Please wake up!"

Seeing as she kept on mumbling 'please wake up.' I reach out to touch her shoulder.

"DON'T TOUCH ME!"

SL.A.P!

Faith, said angrily as she smacked my hand away fiercely. She slapped it so hard that I'm starting to feel a stinging sensation.

"Don't touch me. I want to be left alone."

This time, she looked towards me and said it.

"!?"

Faith's eyes are dull and lifeless. There was no trace of light within them whatsoever.

To be honest, it's kinda creepy. I'm a little scared of her right now.

While keeping my growing unease at bay, I look dead in her eyes and say to her.

"...We got to go."

"Leave me."

"I can't do that."

"Why?"

"Why? Well, because it wouldn't sit right with me if I just left you here."

'You're currently having a mental breakdown right now so who knows what you'll try to do your alone' is what I'm trying to convey to her.

"Not to mention, your my friend."

"Friend? But we only met a couple hours ago. We're acquaintances at best."

"That may be true but hey to make a friend you gotta be a friend."

Of course, if it was some son of a b*tch who I didn't like that much then that would be a different story. I'd leave their asses in a heartbeat and never look back.

...Dammit, why couldn't this be Garrett instead?

"So you won't leave no matter what?"

As if wanting to reaffirm my decision on not leaving her, Faith asks.

And without skipping a beat, I reply.

"Uh-huh."

"Sigh, okay then. If you put it that way…"

"Sh*t!"

Throws a handful of blood in my face! While momentarily unable to see anything, I heard Faith's voice ahead of me.

"If you don't want to leave me behind then I'll make it where you'll have to leave me…!Trina, I'm coming to join you!"

After wiping some of the blood off my face, I spot Faith running ahead of me before cutting a left into another hallway.

"F*ck! This deathwishing b*tch is crazy! Oi, wait up! It's dangerous!"

However, despite me saying that, I still ran after her, hoping she'll snap out of her unstable mental state.

"Where are you going?!"

"Desmond!"

David and Sarah exclaimed the moment they saw me running after Faith. So, without looking back(and dodging the numerous bodies) I shout out to them.

"You guys keep going. We'll catch up with you later."

Sigh, it's hard being a good guy.
