Infection: Dying Days

Chapter 17 - Doctor Desmond

After hearing me reluctantly accept going with her to talk to the teachers, Big Sis gives a nod of approval before turning her attention towards the injured girl sitting on the cot.

"Now that I have the antiseptic spray, I'm going to clean your wound. Desmond you help as well. Take this second can of spray and a few medical supplies here and go to the other side of the infirmary and see if there's anyone else that needs their wounds to be treated."

Handing me the second can of antiseptic spray and a few bandages and gauze, Big Sis told me.

Taking the spray and medical supplies from her, I stuff them in my pockets and say with a serious expression.

"Sure thing."

"Good. I'll come get you when I'm done with the people on this side."

Giving Big Sis a 'see you later' expression, I left her and started searching for any wounded people that needed help.

I skipped over the students who had minor injuries such as small cuts and bruises since it would be waste to use medical supplies on them.

They're big boys and girls, a little pain shouldn't hinder them.

"Hey do you need any help?"

After searching for a bit, I found a person to treat. It was a boy who was trying his best to keep his bloodied bandage tied around his left hand.

"Tss, yes please. The cut on my hand has reopened and it hurts!"

The boy said as he winced at the cut.

"Aren't you a man? You can't let a cut like that faze you. Let me see your hand."

"Okay."

He had a cut starting from the base of his pinky to the middle of his palm and it was bleeding slightly from where the coagulated blood had reopened at.

"How'd you get it?"

I asked as I used some gauze to clean the blood from around the cut.

"I got it when I was...Tss... trying to fight off one of the monsters outside. I was using a mechanical...Tss...pencil to fend it off before it snapped in half. One part went into the monsters eye while the other part slashed my hand. "

"Well, your lucky it's not deep enough to have stitches. What grade you in?"

"Tenth."

"Oh, so your my junior then. What's your name?"

"Kevin. What's yours?"

"I'm Desmond."

"Okay…Why are you asking questions like this?"

"Just asking. Because what I'm about to do next is gonna burn."

"Huh?"

Ignoring the boy's confused expression, I put down the bloody gauze I was using and picked up the antiseptic spray and sprayed it on and around the wound.

"Agh! Shit that burns! Why didn't you tell me?"

The boy said with a voice full of pain as he snatched his hand away from me and hurriedly blew on it.

"Because it wouldn't be fun if I didn't. Now let me finish cleaning it."

"Hell no!"

"Fine. But don't come rushing to me about your hand having puss coming out of it."

"... Fine."

Under the close scrutiny of the Kevin's gaze, I diligently finish cleaning and wrapping up his wound.

"I'm done. Make sure to keep you bandage clean and not sleep on your hand. Copy?"

"I got you."

"Good. See you later. Oh, and throw these away. Your blood is on them."

"Wha- sigh, alright."

Getting up from my crouched position, I hand Kevin the bloodied gauze and bandages I used before walking off in search of my next patient.

"Eh? Desmond?"

"Yo? Sup, Amanda!"

Turning my head towards the voice that called my name, I see Amanda. She was slowly walking my way with a smile on her face.

"What're doing here? Are you sick?"

I asked worried.

"No, I'm here with Sara. She's here talking to one of her friends. They're over there."

Following Amanda's pointed finger, I see Sara happily talking to some girl that had her foot bandaged up.

"I know that girl, I've seen her run on the track team along with Sara during practice. I believe her name is Beverly."

"Yeah, that's what Sara said too. Anyways, what are you doing?"

Staring at the antiseptic spray in my hand and the bandages stuffed in my pocket, Amanda asks.

Showing a smirk, I reply.

"I'm cleaning people wounds."

"Bullshit you are!"

All of a sudden, a voice of retort came from beside me. It was Kevin, he was glaring at me as if I greatly deceived him.

"Hey, your hand is fixed isn't it? You should be thankful."

"Thankful my ass! That shit burned! I'm going back to my cot. My hand is killing me!"

"Go on then."

"Screw you!"

As I shooed away a grumbling Kevin, I turned my attention back towards Amanda who had an stupefied expression on.

"Ahem, anyways, do you want to help?"

Hearing my light cough, Amanda snapped out of her puzzled trance and said.

"O-okay. Let me tell Sara."

"...Sure."

"I'll be right back."

Although I was a little reluctant about Amanda telling Sara, I let her go.

When she told Sara where she was going, both Sara and her friend Beverly looked my way.

Very awkwardly, Sara gives a wave of 'hi'. While, I, on the other hand showed an aloof expression.

'I'm a person who holds grudges no matter what so do you think I'll forgive you so easily?'

Is what I conveyed through my eyes. And getting what I meant, Sara slowly put down her hand as sadness was shown in her eyes.

Sara's display of sadness caused Amanda to alternate her gaze back and forth between me and her while making Beverley send a furiously mad glare my way.

Does she want smoke?

Because if she do, I'm like a certain great guy. I'm an advocate of true gender equality. Meaning, I have no problem giving a girl a left hook followed by a Rock Bottom if she's asking for it.

"...Did something happen between the two of you?"

Amanda nervously asks as she walked back to me.

Trying my best to ignore the somewhat taunting glare of Beverly, I reply to her.

"Let's just say that until I get a heartfelt apology from those two, things are going to be like this for a while."

"Those two?"

"Nevermind that. Come on, let's finish checking if there's any more people that need their wounds cleaned."

"..."

Acting like I didn't notice how Amanda wanted to say something more, I went ahead of her and started searching for more people to treat.

And like earlier, it didn't take long for me to find a person to treat. Not to mention, it went a whole lot faster since Amanda was right there.

Especially for the guys, it was incredibly fun watching them try their hardest to keep up a manly expression in front of Amanda as I sprayed the antiseptic on and around their wounds.

"Desmond. It's time."

Out of nowhere, Big Sis walked up to me and Amanda as we were throwing away a few bloody gauze.

"Where are we meeting at?"

I asked.

"We'll be holding the meeting in Mr. Cole's office."

"I gotcha. Well, Amanda I will be seeing you later."

"Huh? O-okay. I'll see you later then."

"Lead the way."

Leaving behind Amanda, I follow behind Big Sis as she leads me to Mr. Cole's office.
