I Shall Devour Everything

Chapter 43: Facing A Horde Of Dreadlings

Arion released the bowstring as the arrow got released from the bow and shot forward towards the Dreadlings.

But the arrow missed a Jawfiend by a few inches and struck the rocky walls.

"Damn it!" Arion hissed in frustration and took out another arrow from his quiver. However, he was pleased to see that he was able to shoot an arrow across a few hundred meters.

If Arion had a gun, he would have been more used to aiming with it since he had the experience of using them in his past life.

But bow and arrow was quite foreign to him, but he was still able to shoot an arrow close towards the Jawfiend.

If he did not have experience in aiming, then his arrow would have strayed from the target by at least a few meters or even worse.

He was feeling more strength and vigor in his arms, which he thought was because of the adrenaline in his body being pumped into his system.

All he hoped was that this level of energy and strength remained as long as he needed since he was getting quite fond of it, especially when he was in such a grave situation.

His hand had already grabbed another arrow from his quiver and nocked his arrow. This time he carefully aimed at the Jawfiend that was at the front and held his breath as he let loose his arrow.

*Whiizzz!*

Arion released the bowstring as the arrow shot forward, cutting through the air.

*Sptchhhk!*

This time the arrow found its mark and cut right through the head of one of the Jawfiends, making its hairy legs buckle and collapse. It didn't even get the chance to screech before dying.

"Yes!" Arion's eyes lit up, feeling elated that he scored a kill. He realized that one of the advantages of using a bow and arrow against the Jawfiends from afar was that they weren't fast enough to dodge his arrow...or they were not intelligent enough.

This was Arion's hypothesis, and this only made him feel more confident about scoring more kills from afar.

But as he nocked his third arrow, he was inwardly worried about the amount of time he was taking to aim at one of the Dreadlings since it meant that he could only kill a few of them before the rest of the horde reached him.

They were at least 300 meters away from him, and Arion was feeling panicky, wondering how many he could kill before he got overwhelmed by the rest.

*Whizzz!*

Another arrow shot forward and punctured the head of another Jawfiend, killing it instantly.

*Kreeee!!*

The other Jawfiends got even more riled up seeing that its fellow Jawfiends were dying one by one to Arion.

Arion took at least ten seconds to fire each arrow since he had to carefully aim in such a tense situation and because of how dimly lit the whole place was.

If it wasn't for the luminous pink stones on the rocky roof, Arion would have been shooting blind, which was no better than a dead man shooting arrows.

But because of him taking so much time shooting each arrow, by the time they reached within hundred meters of him, he was only able to kill two more.

By the time he released his next arrow, he saw at least ten Jawfiends getting within forty meters of his range.

He quickly threw away his bow and took out both his axes since he knew he didn't have enough time to fire another arrow and also switch weapons.

Instead of wallowing in despair, Arion decided to kill as many as he can since he already analyzed how these Jawfiends attack, especially the way they move and react.

*Kreee!!*

The Jawfiend that was nearest to Arion jumped at him while opening its ominous-looking fangs to bite into Arion's flesh.

Arion, however, reacted fast as his eyes clearly saw the Jawfiend jumping towards him at a slowed-down motion of time though not too much, but just enough for Arion to quickly move his body and bring down his axe over its head.

Since it was hard for it to dodge mid-air, one of Arion's axe found its mark and slashed its head, bringing it down instantly.

This time, Arion felt as if he was able to slash deeper into its head and more effortlessly. Previously, it took him more strength and time to do the same thing.

This realization made him feel elated since he found out that he would be able to strike them down easily, especially when they didn't have enough space to dodge. So he needn't worry about timing his attacks and would be able to attack simultaneously.

He was standing in a corner so that he could avoid any Jawfiends backstabbing him or attacking him from awkward angles.

He was killing them off faster than when he was using his bow and arrow but faced a great risk of getting injured.

The only reason he was able to slow down their onslaught was because of fiercely swinging his axes and using the corpses of the one he killed to slow the others down.

He was also carefully observing their creepy mouths to see if they were going to spit some venom at him.

However, strangely, none of them were trying to spit at him.

However, this thought only remained when he noticed a large monstrous figure entering his peripheral vision.
