378 – Whisper of the Devil

She revealed to Celest that there was a new relic of the Sun God.

And so, back to the present.

We were in a back alley of a street in Europe.

“Is it here?”

A shabby back alley lined with European-style brick buildings.

There, Celest, dressed in casual clothes unlike her usual, trailed her white silver hair.

…She looked holy, different from others, perhaps because her face itself was shining, even though she was not wearing her usual saint’s robes. Of course, the casual clothes were also new.

Anyhow, I smiled at her and opened my mouth.

“Yes. Correct. This place is the new relic of the Sun God that I found out.”

“…How on earth do you know such a place?”

Hearing Celest’s incredulous words, I entered the dilapidated house in the back alley.

In this dark place made of boards that seemed to have been neglected for a long time and were falling apart.

I silently walked to the end of this desolate house, which seemed to have nothing.

Then, I saw a completely empty wall in front of me.

And when I put my hand there.

……

With a sense of something rippling.

Where there was definitely an empty wall, a large door was now standing.

The wall of the relic, just the same as I’d seen before.

…As expected, just like it appeared in the original work, this door only appears when its existence is recognized.

Of course, this is all I, a fake, can do.

As I thought that, I turned my head and smiled at Celest, who was standing behind me.

“Now. The door to the relic is open, let’s go in.”

“Egoistic… You’re really…”

Seeing me discover a new relic that even she, the saint of the Sun God, didn’t know about, Celest spoke as if she couldn’t believe it.

Then, she nodded and approached me.

“…Yes. Let’s go in.”

With that, I opened the door.

And then a white light wrapped around our bodies.

And our bodies were pulled into the relic.

*

“This place is…”

A large hall made of brown bricks, as if it had faced the ravages of time head on.

In this relic of the Sun God, which seemed to be connected to another world, Celest flicked her finger first.

Along with it, her outfit naturally changed from a T-shirt to her original saint’s robes.

“Whew…”

With a sigh, she returned to being the mysterious and dignified saint.

Then she looked around and spoke in a slightly guarded voice.

“I hope there’s no chance here of my abilities being taken away. There won’t be such a thing, right?”

“Haha. Yes. Probably, this place is safe.”

“…Well, that’s a relief, but… well, it doesn’t matter.”

She said, and continued.

In the blink of an eye, she turned to me and gave a small smile, saying,

“Because you’re with me.”

…Of course, it was momentary, and she turned her head as if nothing had happened and stepped forward.

“Let’s go. I’m curious about what’s here.”

“Haha. Yes.”

And behind her, I silently followed her with a smile.

So we entered the relic.

Just like the previous relic, this ancient relic buried in the underground, inaccessible to ordinary people… was quite large.

Especially the sight of numerous murals.

…And these, these were what I was after.

“…Wow.”

Celest, admiring the sight of the relic filled with murals.

As she was looking around, she began to mumble to me.

“…These ancient relics, who made them, when, and why?”

“Didn’t you investigate the last relic?”

“I did. After you left… I formed a separate investigation team. But…”

As she stroked the wall with her slender hand, Celest mumbled with a voice full of questions.

“Surely, looking at these murals and the scale of the relics… it seems like there were a lot of people who believed in the Sun God. But why has everyone forgotten about him now? Believing only in other gods?”

At her words, as if she couldn’t understand, I nodded and answered.

“…That’s something we can’t know at this point. But according to the few remaining documents that mention the Sun God… among modern religions, there are quite a few commonalities with the doctrine of the Sun God. Through that.”

“Yes. I know that. Probably… modern religions, they all stem from him. But, why… except for a few books, all records have been lost.”

“That’s a good question.”

“…”

With that, our conversation paused for a moment.

All we did was slowly walk through the relic and look at the large mural drawn on the wide wall.

And looking at that mural.

‘…..’

I felt my heart pounding and racing.

Yes. This is it.

This is the real opportunity to sell the potion.

Celest. An opportunity to sow the seeds of doubt that will shatter everything in her heart filled with faith in God.

This opportunity was what I had been preparing for all along.

I calmed my heart, stared at the mural, and quietly opened my mouth.

“…This mural is peculiarly, has words written on it.”

Saying so,

I calmly read the Latin words.

“Una die descendit Deus et dedit nobis gratiam… One day, God descended and gave us grace.”

Along with that, I looked again at the mural drawn with that text.

It looked like humans were kneeling, and at the end, a man drawn with a sun for a head seemed to be spreading his arms.

Celest was looking at it with an awestruck face.

“…As expected, it seems that God used to descend into the world in the past.”

With that, I continued to read the words.

The Sun God descended and gave us laws and rules.

The Sun God was with us, showing us the direction to go in life.

The Sun God loved humans, and gave each of them abilities…

So,

The words on the mural showed how much God loved humans. And it showed that He personally led them.

And looking at that,

I said to Celest, smiling.

“…Looking at it now, it seems like God really loved humans.”

From noble mtl dot com

“Yes… it seems so.”

At those words, she answered with a warm smile somehow. Her eyes were glued to the mural, as if trying to etch the sight into her memory.

… Of course. It must be impressive.

She, unlike her name as the Holy Maiden of the Sun God, was chosen by Him… but she didn’t know who God was, what He wanted, how He created this world.

So for the first time, she got to know who God really was in more detail.

The God in the mural, although his face was in the shape of the sun… was clearly depicted as a human.

And a commonality in all the murals, including this one.

God coexisted with the world in human form and directly led humans.

And.

He clearly loved humans.

Yes.

This part was important.

I was intending to plant a seed of doubt in Celest’s heart with this.

“…There are more murals continuing that way. Shall we go and see?”

“Yes. Let’s go.”

So.

Just as I was about to start speaking while looking at the pictures of people praising God with Celest and smiling.

“…That’s really strange.”

Celest opened her mouth first.

“Why would God, who loved His creations so much… suddenly abandon them and disappear? Hiding all traces.”

She mumbled as if puzzled.

Hearing her words,

I chuckled and said,

Good. It was time to sell the potion.

“…He must have had some reasons. But, isn’t there one thing that’s certain?”

“What’s that..?”

“That is. He still loves us.”

As I said that, I suddenly turned to look at Celest, stopped, and looked back.

“…Oh.”

Then at that moment, she, who was following me, stopped right in front of me when I stopped.

And taking advantage of the situation, I naturally stroked her silver hair and mumbled,

“He chose you, Celest. Didn’t He say that when He saved you at your most difficult moment, to unite the people of the world?”

“…Right?”

Even though she looked puzzled at my words spoken so close, she didn’t push me away or show any rejection.

…Yes. It’s done.

In order to advance a relationship, it’s necessary to approach first like this.

Now it was time to nail it down.

“This is surely because He still loves the people of the world. It’s certain that He will descend into this world again and save us all. What do you think, Celest.”

“…You’re right.”

At my words,

Celest smiled faintly, looked up at me, and spoke.

“I was also told that He will descend into this world again soon.”

“So it seems… that’s why He told you to unite the world in advance. So that His faith and love can spread faster.”

“…You seem to be right. I knew God would be like that.”

At my words, Celest still affirmed.

Looking at her, who seemed convinced by my words, I unknowingly smiled even more brightly.

Yes.

Now, in Celest’s heart, through the inscriptions on the murals and my persuasion…

The image of the Sun God has been firmly established today.

He has cared for people from the beginning.

Helped them from ancient times, and disappeared for some reason.

And he will return.

He saved a poor girl and told her to unite the world, and he will soon return to this world and abundantly give his love.

Surely, a benevolent God.

A good God who loves humans and seeks to save them.

That’s the God you, Celest, like.

And.

‘When that God… tries to destroy mankind.’

You, facing a God who is filled with hatred for humanity, completely different from what you’ve thought until now. So different that you can’t believe it’s the same God, a God who becomes no different from a God of destruction.

Can you still, without an inch of doubt,

Without hesitating for a single moment,

Completely support his plan?

Having this thought, I quietly smiled.

The start was from now.

The start of my grand plan to make the Holy Maiden, herself, reject her own God.
