352 – Purple Escapade

Last time, I told all my colleagues.

Although it’s a little break now, once another turning point comes, we’ll have to be active non-stop.

That turning point is the 4th phase.

The last phase of the original work, divided into four parts.

…And the final chapter that ended with the extinction of humanity, the climax of tragedy.

In fact, considering the original work, there was no time to rest. The plot was tightly packed. There was no time to catch a breath, and incidents kept happening.”

In Part 3 of the novel, the first half was spent dealing with the Moonlight Sect Master from the final chapter of Part 2, who had opened a gate to Dunworld, and the latter half was composed of Seo Eun’s great prison break and the boss battle to grant her wish. Naturally, it was packed with various villains and events throughout.

And right after that, Part 4 began.

‘But things are different now.’

As you can see, there wasn’t any major issue at the moment. It was a peaceful time, limited to South Korea.

The reason for that was because I had dealt with the gate that made up the first half of Part 3 at the end of Phase 2.

I had preemptively blocked the most important prison break in the latter half and had already killed the one who would grant the wish.

In other words, I had some extra time now compared to the original work because I had taken care of everything beforehand.

…In fact, this might be the only leisurely time before the final battle.

And I had already informed everyone of that fact.

Anyway, the conclusion was that…

When Seo Ja-young asked to hang out for a day, I had no particular reason to refuse. Because I was unemployed.

…Of course, I still had to prepare for the crazy villain scheduled for next week. Sigh. Well… I’ll let my future self handle that. Retirement is the best.

So, I was standing on the street with Seo Ja-young for that reason.

“Alright. Yawn. Let’s go.”

“Where are we going?”

“To the comic book store. I’ve wanted to go there for a long time.”

Since I had agreed to spend the day with Seo Ja-young, I decided to go along with whatever she wanted to do.

But a comic book store… I hadn’t heard of that in a long time. Do such places still exist?

Seo Eun’s hideout was practically a comic book store, so I didn’t think we needed to go, but Seo Ja-young said they also sell food there, so I had no choice but to nod.

…It might be strange to go to a comic book store while the world is facing impending doom, but who cares? It would be even harder to go later if not now.

Anyway, we were walking down the street to get there.

As we walked along the crowded street, I couldn’t help but notice…

‘…People are subtly glancing at Seo Ja-young.’

The frequency of people stealing glances at Seo Ja-young while walking was quite high.

At first, I thought it was because of her eye-catching purple bobbed hair, but seeing that all the men were sneaking glances at her, I realized there must be another reason.

From noble mtl dot com

…Well, even in the original story, she had a subtle fan base when she was a villain.

Despite her casually walking with both hands in her hoodie, her unique languid atmosphere and quad-eyes somehow gave off a mysterious vibe. …Perhaps it’s because they’re named characters from the original story that their appearance is so striking.

“Haah… my legs are tired.”

She herself didn’t seem to notice at all, with her blank gaze.

As I watched her walking, I thought quietly to myself.

‘…So, Seo Ja-yeong likes me, right?’

At least, that’s what Subin had said.

…Honestly, I still couldn’t quite believe it. Especially if it’s Seo Ja-yeong, even more so.

She’s always liked playing pranks in the first place, so how could she like me? Could she be confusing liking me with enjoying teasing me?

Well, on the other hand, if she didn’t like me, she wouldn’t have come to my bed and slept together…

I was thinking this when I was walking with Seo Ja-yeong.

“Aaaahhhhhhh!”

“…?”

Suddenly, a scream echoed through the streets.

Wondering what happened, I looked in that direction.

Bang-

Smoke billowed as something stirred up a commotion near a building.

“Muahaha! This area is mine for the taking!”

A man wearing a skin-tight black suit, swimming goggles, and a hat, was spraying fire with a flamethrower attached to his back.

People were running away from him at an incredibly fast pace. It was quite a sight to see people in suits running away like sprinters.

Caught off guard by the untimely villain’s terror, I grabbed Seo Ja-yeong’s hand and hastily retreated to an alley, watching the scene unfold.

“Oh. Something interesting is happening, huh?”

Seo Ja-yeong, who had been half-asleep just a moment ago, suddenly brightened up and asked me.

I, too, stood quietly, watching the spectacle.

…Seeing the situation, I realized once again how accustomed the citizens of this world were to such terror.

As soon as that guy appeared, everyone orderly and quickly fled, leaving no one nearby.

By now, people were used to such villains; there was no one around shivering in fear or filming with their phones… there was simply no one.

However, about three crosswalks away, there was a bizarre scene of people walking without even paying attention to this side.

For busy modern people, it seemed that a villain was merely an obstacle to be avoided.

“Muahaha! Did they all run away because they’re scared of me? Pathetic!”

Anyway, as I watched the guy happily setting fires alone on the street, I continued to hide behind an alley. …It would be troublesome if he suddenly set a building on fire. Although it seemed like those people had already run away…

“Shouldn’t we step in?”

Watching the scene, Seo Ja-yeong said that while summoning purple flames in her hand.

“Uh, wait a moment…”

I held her back and kept observing the situation.

A hero would come soon and solve everything anyway…

Wait a moment.

‘Could it be Stardust coming?’

Having thought that far, I suddenly felt my heart race.

…What should I do? I didn’t expect to see him like this.

…Stay calm. I just need to see the atmosphere from a distance.

As I took a deep breath, Seo Ja-yeong, who was looking up at me, said:

“Hmmm?”

Seeming to have noticed something, she smiled as if knowing everything and spoke in a languid voice.

“It’s rude to think of another girl when I’m right next to you…”

Saying that, she tickled my hand, which she was still holding, with her fingers.

“Is that okay or not?”

Sigh.

How many minutes did we wait like that with Seo Ja-yeong poking me from time to time?

Soon enough, a hero came running.

“You! Huaaaaaa!”

…Unfortunately, it wasn’t Stardust.

It was probably another B or C-rank hero. Was it because the villain was just spewing fire without any real power? Well, if that flamethrower had been a little weaker, it would have been possible to subdue him from a police line.

Anyway, I tried to back off as soon as I felt that the hero with blue hair and a white coat had arrived.

Until I saw the mark on his arm.

“Wait a minute…”

Isn’t that our Meteor Group’s logo?

Having confirmed that, I looked at him closely once more.

…Judging by the fact that I don’t remember him, he must be one of the 4th generation ability users trained after I left.

Meteor Squad, a group composed of those with B-class abilities or lower, defending our country. It seemed like he was a member of the so-called Ego Squad. They had been protecting the country in various places nationwide while I wasn’t paying attention.

‘…Come to think of it, it’s been a while since I’ve seen the Ego Squad kids.’

I should visit them next time.

With that thought, I left the alley, still holding Seo Ja-yeong, who had been pressing down on the back of my hand.

“Let’s stop here.”

“You must be disappointed that Stardust didn’t come?”

“…”

After overcoming various obstacles, we finally arrived at the comic book store.

…where I couldn’t help but feel puzzled.

“…Has the comic book store always been like this?”

“Hmm. The latest comic cafes are all like this these days.”

Instead of reading in an open space, there were separate rooms, and you would rent comics at the counter and take them to the rooms to read.

…The problem was that the rooms were too small.

When I said I might need to sit separately,

“What are you talking about? We can just sit like this.”

So, Seo Ja-yeong made me sit first, then she sat on top of me.

“Hey, how am I supposed to read comics like this?”

“Read it with me.”

So, Seo Ja-yeong answered, grabbed a comic book, and began to read while adjusting her position in my arms. Her mental world was still hard for me to understand…

With no other choice, I read the comic book along with her, sighing.

Complaining that my arm was in the way, she made me put my hand in her hoodie pocket, and somehow I ended up holding her, feeling a bit strange. But from the middle of the comic book, it was more interesting than I expected, so I didn’t really pay attention to it. It felt like I was holding a stuffed animal? Maybe because it was soft.

“Hmm…”

“Rather, from the middle, Seo Ja-young felt more embarrassed. Every time I moved my hand, her ears turned slightly red and she flinched, occasionally making a growling sound, as if I was holding a big cat.

“Isn’t it uncomfortable? Should we move apart?”

When I asked her that, Seo Ja-young replied like this.

“It’s fine. It’s comfortable now.”

“Really?”

“Yes. And, I like it.”

“What?”

“I said, I like it.”

She suddenly turned her head and looked straight into my eyes as she said that.

In that position, with her back pressed against my chest and feeling her breath, I was momentarily flustered.

“This posture.”

“…..”

Following her words, I relaxed.

“Why, what were you thinking?”

Seeing my expression, she smiled playfully and answered like that.

…How cheeky.

“Ugh.”

“No, wait! Eek. Hahaha, it’s just a joke!”

When I moved my hand inside the hood to tickle her in annoyance, Seo Ja-young gasped for breath.

“Sigh, sigh.”

After reaching a certain point.

Turning her head forward again, Seo Ja-young spoke in a panting breath.

“…Well, you like it too.”

“…..”

“Heh. Even though you’ll be flustered when I say it like this.”

After saying that, Seo Ja-young started focusing on the comic again.

I, too, held her and read together from behind.

…Along with a faint sense of guilt.

By the way, after returning home, it is said that we got scolded by Choi Se-hee for playing just the two of us…”
