Game’s Dogma

Chapter 311: Slaughterer

Fenny’s voice resounded in the palace hall, putting a tense look on the palace master’s face.

If he’s so certain about it, then there’s a great chance he’s telling the truth.

While Fenny declared that he would take responsibility if the intel was fake, the palace master also had to bear responsibility if the intel turned out to be true and he delayed communication. He sent his piercing gaze into the freckled young man, trying to see through what was in his mind, only to receive a firm glare in return.

The palace master took a deep breath. “Very well.”

He then took out his phone from his item bag and used the mysterious contact method. Olympus had a strict hierarchy, making it impossible for ordinary people to contact those of the Three Gods. The normal procedure was to inform the Twelve Chambers, then the Five Palaces, then the Four Generals, and finally the Three Gods.

Fenny’s identity as an inner sect member of Heavenly Handlers granted him permission to directly contact the Three Gods. However, the Three Gods were out at the Warring Wastelands, so the only people who could contact them were the Four Generals. Even the Four Generals had to pay a hefty price to contact the Three Gods.

After the Five Palaces reported the situation to one of the Four Generals, the general wore a pained expression as he plucked out a crystal. It was a Space Rending Crystal, a special item that allowed one to video call another player regardless of their location.

The general shot a cold glance and Fenny and said, “Your intel better be true. If not, even your status as a Heavenly Handlers member won’t save you.”

“Please do not be worried, General. I have permission to speak directly to the Three Gods, I know what I am doing.”

The red-haired young man smiled wryly. Fenny’s really an arrogant one.

“Hmph!” The general then crushed the crystal with his hand, turning it into fine dust which shrouded the general’s phone. He immediately dialled a number; the crystal’s effect had a limited duration and he dared not waste even a second.

It was a weird sight. Many were watching the projection from the palace master’s phone, in which the general showed the projection from his phone. After a brief moment, they all heard a voice.

“You better have something important to say.”

The eerie voice sounded as if it originated from the depths of hell. Even the palace master stiffened and cursed in his mind, You just had to contact this guy out of all people… He’s the one with the worst temper.

Fenny cut the pleasantries and went straight to the point. “Is Sir Divine King here?”

A black shadow showed up in the video call, but his face was blurred by what seemed to be a signal disruption. His voice softened a fair bit upon hearing Fenny’s voice as he replied, “It’s Fenny? The Divine King is killing a monster, hold on.”

It didn’t take long for another voice to say, “Fenny? What’s the matter? Did something urgent come up?” It sounded so natural and soothing, yet it had a solemn air to it unlike the previous person’s.

“Sir, I think I have found the masked man you mentioned before.”

“Oh?” The voice sounded exhilarated. “Really? Are you certain?”

Fenny didn’t answer and instead glanced at the red-haired young man beside him. Knowing Fenny’s intention, the red-haired young man stepped forwards and said, “Sir, I am Fenny’s friend who serves under the Fire Palace. My name is Grumpyteen.”

In-game names were often weird, so that was only to be expected. After reporting his ID, Grumpyteen continued, “I fought the person, so my descriptions might help Sir determine whether he is the man.”

“Speak.”

Grumpyteen stuttered for a moment as he recalled the battle. “The person’s legs were flaming red and gave off mist. He also wore a fiery red mask.” He then described what the Mask of the Hidden Dragon looked like.

The Divine King cursed in his head. I know he wears a mask, but even that mask was pixelated! How would I know what it’s like?

“Tell me about the fight.”

“Yes sir,” Grumpyteen answered. “That person, he is indeed extremely powerful.”

Grumpyteen proceeded to narrate the entire fight. There wasn’t much to say given how quickly it ended though. The crowd all showed satisfied smiles when they heard Grumpyteen say he used Street Fighter, only to frown and pale upon hearing that the masked man caught all thirty of his punches.

“I am no elite fighter, but I believe I am still somewhat well-known for my ultimate skill, Street Fighter,” Grumpyteen said in a cautious and slightly fearful tone. “It is a grappling skill which is followed by thirty system-generated punches within five seconds. I’ve seen players who could parry a few punches, but this is the first time someone managed to defend all thirty punches.”

“Mhm.” A person’s silhouette and a vaguely visible golden glow showed up on the projection. “You say he’s splendid at barehanded combat. What about his spearmanship?”

Grumpyteen looked ashamed as he replied, “Because he defended against Street Fighter, I was still in the frozen animation when he ended me. I didn’t learn too much about his spearmanship.”

“Mhm... The person I am looking for is a master with the spear. You say he’s lightning fast with his hands, so it doesn’t sound too similar. To be safe, I will pay him a visit in person. Fenny, send me the coordinates.”

At that moment, the person who said nothing after taking the call spoke up. “Sir, I don’t think this is worth your time. There’s an emergency going on after all.”

Everyone kept their mouths shut. This was an argument between the Three Gods, which wasn’t a discussion they dared to interfere with.

“But if it’s true…”

“We should send Slaughterer to scout the situation first. If he can defeat Slaughterer, then it is very likely that he is indeed the mysterious person Sir speaks of. If he can’t, then he isn’t worthy of being your nemesis, am I wrong?”

“But…”

“Sir, I insist!”

“Sigh…”

Hearing the person’s sigh, everyone could guess what the decision was.

“Slaughterer, you heard it. Have Fenny send you the coordinates and enter the Warring Wastelands right away,” the person with a cold voice ordered.

Slaughterer was the general who made the call. Upon receiving permission to enter the Warring Wastelands, he stood up from his seat and replied, “Understood!”

Slaughterer had wanted to enter the Warring Wastelands from the beginning, but one of the Four Generals had to guard Olympus while the others were gone, so he had to stay behind. As a bellicose fighter, he had been down in the dumps for not being allowed to enter the Warring Wastelands; the order he just received was no less of a godsend.
