Chapter 299: Life and Death Charm (1)

The Divine Dragon Jade wasn’t as simple as it seemed. Instead of a mere item, it contained an inheritance that suited Yim Ho the best. Yim Ho never intended to contest for an inheritance in the first place and only fought because of Fong Sai Yuk’s challenge.

Duen Yu, Hui Chuk, and the two beauties came closer to Drako Yau and Dumbgirl. The two ladies were Duen Yu’s goddess, Wong Yu Yin, and Hui Chuk’s wife, Princess Ngan Chuen of the Western Ha Kingdom.

“I should give you a gift because you’re big brother’s disciple,” Duen Yu said with his eyes squinted from the smile on his face. The satisfaction on his face grew the longer he stared at Dumbgirl. He plucked out a cute humanoid doll and handed it to her.

While Dumbgirl was a bit dumb, she was still a child who couldn’t resist dolls. Her wide round eyes showed how much she desired it, yet she dared not to take it. She glanced at Drako Yau, who patted her head.

“Take it if you want to,” Drako Yau said.

However, Dumbgirl was still reluctant to take it despite glueing her eyes on the doll. With a sigh, Drako Yau received it for her.

“Ding!”

“Congratulations, you have received the legendary item, Substitute Automata.”

“Substitute Automata: A legendary doll said to be created by the spirits of heaven and earth, it is rumoured to be sentient and can die in its owner’s stead.

Cooldown: 36 days.”

Drako Yau almost dropped the doll upon inspecting its attributes. Still, he handed it over to Dumbgirl and said, “Take it and say thank you.”

Dumbgirl was delighted to take the doll from Drako Yau. She turned to Duen Yu and said in a cute voice, “Thank you, uncle.”

Duen Yu’s handsome face stiffened at her words, while Wong Yu Yin covered her mouth as she chuckled. Hui Chuk’s gentle expression turned serious for a moment as he sized up Drako Yau, but he soon put on his usual look.

“Brother, you have a good heart. No wonder big brother taught you Dragon Capturing Hand,” said Hui Chuk.

Substitute Automata was an invaluable treasure for Drako Yau because he was a

Maverick. However, he didn’t take it for himself; to Duen Yu, that alone was worthy of praise.

Drako Yau remained emotionless as always, as if the praise didn’t affect him at all. He was a man of few words anyways unless he was with his companions. Greenstone also made him seem more “normal” in comparison.

Hui Chuk wasn’t bothered by Drako Yau’s lack of response either. After years of harsh training, he was no longer as tongue-tied as he used to be—as honest as always, but way better with his words.

“I was going to give you a doll as a gift as well, but I’ve changed my mind after learning what kind of person you are.”

Duen Yu was startled by his sworn brother’s words.

Determination filled Hui Chuk’s eyes as he said, “What I am about to give you is no righteous item. However, I believe there is no absolute good or evil in the way of cultivation. It is all up to the user to decide what is good and what is evil.”

If Duen Yu couldn’t tell what Hui Chuk was on about by now, it’d sully his reputation as a smart person. He widened his eyes and asked in horror, “Brother, what are you…”

Hui Chuk’s bald face was nowhere near handsome, but it gave off the atmosphere of a saint as he said, “The great disaster will soon befall the world, and there will be endless suffering. If this item of pure evilness can do good, there is no reason not to do so.” He took out a book from his grand robe. “Brother, I hope you will use it for doing good. If I find you astray in the way of evilness, please forgive me for putting an end to you with my very hands.”

Drako Yau received the book without pointless words of courtesy and heard the system’s voice in his head.

“Ding! You have received the epic skill book, Life and Death Charm.”

Although he could roughly guess it already, he was still stunned when he received the skill book.

“Life and Death Charm: It is the evilest assassination weapon to have existed in the world. The caster condenses water molecules in the air into shards of ice and fires them into the enemy. When struck by the Life and Death Charm, the person will be tortured for all eternity, unable to ask for death or life. Only the caster can remove the curse, making it a terrifyingly evil weapon.”

Drako Yau narrowed his eyes. He had known about the existence of martial art styles in the game, but the old geezer had never been elaborate about the topic. He did make it clear about one thing though—and that was the existence of the Life and Death Charm. The old geezer was extremely certain when he lectured Drako Yau about this weapon of pure evilness.

“I have no idea how that author learnt about this technique, but his descriptions were all true. All apart from the setting that Six Solar Palms of Mount Heaven can remove the curse,” said the old geezer with a serious look on his face, his usual carefree attitude gone without a trace. “The only person in the world who can unbind the curse of the Life and Death Charm is the caster himself.”

“In ancient times, a martial genius who strayed into the path of evilness spent his entire life creating the Life and Death Charm. The words “Life” and “Death” meant all those who were struck by it could neither live nor die, also implying the caster had control over the target’s life and death.

“The evil genius used his technique to sweep away everyone in his path near the end of his life. He dominated all cultivators until a hidden master defeated him and disabled his cultivation powers, and only then did the style of Life and Death Charm fade away. No one knew whether he passed it on to someone else before his death.

“I’m telling you this because the future is unpredictable. If one day, you encounter an enemy who can use Life and Death Charm, you have only two choices. One, take him out instantly before he can use it, or two, run away. Far away enough that the enemy will never find you. Once you get hit, you’ll realise even death is beyond your reach.”

“Why’d I meet someone who’d want to kill me with Life and Death Charm? Cultivators don’t even exist in the world these days, do they?” Drako Yau asked.

The old geezer merely chuckled without answering him. However, the obscene grin now had a tint of mysteriousness in it.

Hades looked around him. It was a plain room that could hardly be called a room. Apart from the absolute necessities to maintain life, the only piece of furniture between the four walls was a stone bed.

However, many swords hung on the walls. Hades counted a total of thirteen swords as he observed each one in detail. They seemed to be hung randomly, yet they also seemed to convey some sort of incomprehensible theory that attracted his sight.

Tai On sighed when he noticed Hades sizing up the swords. Looks like we are truly fated to meet.

While Hades was still engrossed with the swords, Tai On formed a sword with his fingers and lightly tapped the back of Hades’ head.

“It is fate that brings us together. Now, I will teach you the unique swordsmanship, Thirteen Flashing Spiritual Swords. Please defend the human race with it in the future. If you betray the human race, don’t blame me for travelling thousands of miles just to take your head with my very sword.”

Tai On’s words struck Hades like thunder in a clear sky. Thirteen swords flickered into existence in his head afterwards.
