Game’s Dogma

Chapter 277: Wyrm Bed

“Yeah,” said Sasaki, trying to diffuse the unpleasant atmosphere with a smile. “This is the most successful product our Ki Industries have produced after months of research and trials. I present to you the Wyrm Bed.”

“Tell me about its attributes,” Drako Yau said calmly. With how many legendary items he had seen, ordinary stuff could no longer surprise him.

“Increases all skill damage by five per cent and all attributes by ten points. The best part is that it also increases the chance of inflicting negative ailments on the enemy. I believe it suits you the best.”

Drako Yau’s eyes glowed after hearing Sasaki’s introduction. The Godly Spearmaster class was built around stacking negative effects on enemies, so Wyrm Bed synergised perfectly with it. Flame Dance and Ice Body both activated by chance, but once activated, they were powerful enough to turn the tide of battle.

“Hmm, not bad at all.”

Drako Yau walked towards the bed and was about to stow it away when the seniors all shouted at him, “What are you doing? This is a blatant robbery!”

Sasaki’s expression crumbled. Windstrider said furiously, “You’ve got some nerves! Do you know who you are speaking to?”

One of the old men stepped forth, clearly the leader of the craftsmen. “Ohoho, of course I do. Master of Yoda… am I wrong? You’re just a self-proclaimed king in a game, don’t be too proud of yourself. Youngsters are truly youngsters, acting with such conceit after gaining a tad bit of fame.” He then pointed at the Wyrm Bed and continued, “We, a bunch of old men, have worked hard on this for months, and you’re going to take it away just like that? Aren’t you being unreasonable here?”

“Unreasonable?” Windstrider was the one who asked. He was also an easy-going person, but unlike Bloodless Bladester, he couldn’t turn a blind eye to things he disdained and would confront others directly. “Elder Ki, may I ask what is the reasonable solution you suggest?”

Sasaki signalled Elder Ki with winks and blinks, but Elder Ki simply squinted his eyes like he couldn’t see Sasaki. At his current status, even Sasaki’s father spoke to him respectfully.

“We old men have little to ask for. Based on the appraisal report, this piece of treasure is worth at least ten million. Not too expensive for an item of its calibre, no? Also, promote its effects and attributes to the public for a month before you use it. Ki Industries can establish its well-deserved reputation that way.”

Drako Yau ignored Elder Ki and said to Windstrider, “Strider.”

“Boss.” Windstrider nodded at Drako Yau with a tint of fury in his eyes.

“I’ll leave it to you, you know what to do.”

“Yes, boss.”

Drako Yau turned on his heels and left the room without even sparing a glance. The few craftsmen led by Elder Ki stood stupefied; they had no idea what just happened. How could Drako Yau just turn around and leave with a priceless treasure right before him?

Windstrider turned around to face the old craftsmen. His dull look was void of any expression, as if he was staring at a bunch of corpses.

Sasaki covered his face with his palms. It’s all over…

“Ki Industries has been operating in the game for over three months. A part of the so-called hundred-million-dollar investment is used to pay your salaries, and the logs used to level you all up are all valuable resources.

“Those logs you have been using are either so rare that they require a high-level lumberjack to chop them or so unpopular that no one bothered to chop those trees. We, Dragon Alliance, are the ones who helped you build up your subclass levels. Manpower, resources, do they not cost money? Do you realise how much money we could have earned if we had invested those resources into something else?

“There’s also rent. Ki Industries’ store is located at the prime commercial street of Yoda, the best commercial city in the entire game! Think you’ve got money? You can’t even rent a store at such a location even with money! Do you even know how many rent offers we have received for your store’s plot?

“And what results have you been giving us for the past few months? Absolutely nothing! For three months, we, Dragon Alliance, have been investing resources into Ki Industries unconditionally! We gave you our land, we fetched you the resources you needed and sold them to you at cost price, not a cent more. We even sent you assistants, every single one of which is our subclass players.

“What did you give us in return, apart from the rent that is no different from free compared to the plot’s market price? It took you three whole months to come up with an epic piece of furniture, yet you still dare to bluster about it in front of our boss? The Dragon Alliance has never been stingy with you about money, yet here you are, asking us to pay up!”

Windstrider was truly infuriated. “Why do you think you all have been levelling up your subclass so quickly? We are the ones who provided you with top quality tools and the item that increased subclass experience gain! That item alone is worth a million gold each!

“Look at you all. If you think you can take advantage of the Dragon Alliance, you can’t be further off the mark. You all could make it in the game for the past three months only because of your young master Ki Shing Chi’s relationship with the Dragon Alliance.”

“You’re right, this is just a game. But don’t forget that you’re working in the game now.” Windstrider’s glare turned hostile. “Here, the boss makes the rules!”

Sasaki let out a long sigh and stayed silent; there was no way around this when Windstrider was the one who took it this far.

As expected, Windstrider said, “From today onwards, all of Ki Industries’ stores are evicted from Yoda. We cannot afford to keep you almighty gods around endlessly. As for the resources, manpower, and everything Dragon Alliance have invested into nurturing you ungrateful snakes, I will send an invoice to your company and request it to be repaid.”

“Now, get the hell out!”

“Who does he think he is! How dare he tell us to get the hell out!”

“Don’t mind it, our subclass levels are all the way up now, and we’re finally getting used to the system’s rating criteria. There’ll be someone who’ll take us in I’m sure.”

Flames of fury burned behind Elder Ki’s glare. How many years had it been since he made a name for himself? No one had ever dared to be impolite to him, let alone telling him to “get the hell out”.

Elder Ki was determined—determined to make Yoda regret its decision. I’ll mass produce epic furniture and grow your enemies!

In Evergrand, Bloodless Bladester greeted the elders before him with a smile.

“Oh I apologise, plots here in Evergrand are all taken. There aren’t any vacant ones currently, let alone the prime location you ask for. You’re Sasaki’s seniors, am I right? Let me see… Sigh, I’m too soft-hearted. There’s a vacant store near the city’s corner. For rent, three hundred grand a month should be about right.”

The store was so far away that no one ever went to it. Let alone three hundred thousand, no one would even rent it for three thousand dollars; Bloodless Bladester was toying with the seniors.

“You… You!” They pointed their trembling fingers at Bloodless Bladester before they left in a fit of rage.

As soon as they left, someone entered the room and said, “Quite nasty aren’t you?”

Bloodless Bladester chuckled. “We Evergrand have no use for ungrateful ones who ditch their benefactors. Right, Hades?”

The person, shrouded in black smoke and carrying a sword on his back, snickered in response. “Those fellas are leechers who only know how to suck blood off others! Evergrand won’t stoop so low to enlist the help of elders who live off their past glory!”
