Game’s Dogma

Chapter 274: Master

At Empyreal Spire, everyone glanced at one another in silence. Their guild master Chau Yu had just returned, and without saying a word, he locked himself up in the conference room alone.

Chau Yu sat on the guild master’s seat and shut his eyes. He took in a deep breath and heaved it out. After a while, a purple glow swirled in his eyes.

“This is… such a great gift.”

Unlike Drako Yau, Chau Yu had learnt from his self-proclaimed ancestor the truth of this world, making him all the more impatient. He had once wanted to tell Mask about it to speed things up, but his pride forbade him from doing so, not to mention that everyone would simply treat him as a lunatic if he told them the truth. Still, fate seemed to be toying with him—Mask’s forces were what he needed the most now.

Whatever, I’ll see how things go. There’s still time, for now.

On the map in the futuristic room, the wooden house where Stygien had stayed returned to its usual blue as streaks of data streamed into it, granting the two young male and female duo room for a breather.

The scary man who intruded was way too scary for their minds to take, especially the nonchalant gaze he directed into the sky before he left. It pierced through everything and landed on the two; they couldn’t breathe under the massive pressure.

Suddenly, a spatial wave appeared in the room. A translucent figure of a human materialised in the air. Sensing the figure’s presence, the two immediately said, “Master.”

“Mhm.” The voice was void of anything—gender, tone, emotions… it held nothing but emptiness.

“Master… Dragonspear suddenly received so many legendary items. Will he break the balance…”

“It won’t matter,” said the voice. “Look at the other side, Zeus’ doing a lot better. Dragonspear’s progress is quite slow compared to Zeus too. The man gave him a push to speed things up, which is fine by me.

“We don’t have much time. The demon race is ready to pounce already. Prepare to publish The Wasteland within three months.”

Hearing their master, the male and female glanced at one another with bitter smiles.

“Master… Isn’t this too soon? The game was only launched nine months ago… It’ll be less than a year from launch if we publish The Wasteland in three months.”

“It’s not that I’m trying to force things into such a hurry. Rather, we can’t hold on any longer.” Their master sounded cold. “The demon race has noticed that something is off. The Wasteland has to be published no matter what, or else the players won’t stand a chance when the demon race makes their move.”

The two went silent. While The Wasteland was a difficult map, it also allowed players to progress quickly. With dangers came opportunities, so to say.

“Alright, I’ll leave that to you. Don’t worry about that man also, he’s gone. If not for all the troubles inside and outside our world… Hmph, there’s no reason for me to fear that fella!” Their master sounded rather vexed. “Roll out The Wasteland in three months, then finish the main story in one year! The entire process has to be completed within two years!”

The shadow then disappeared, leaving behind the two annoyed youngsters.

“You’re a mad lad you know?”

Yim Ho, Chan Ka Lok, and Bloodless Bladester were sitting in Dragon Alliance’s conference room, their eyes fixed on the masked man.

Black and gold dominated the spacious conference room. Designed by a famous interior designer in the actual world, a dark-golden oriental dragon coiled around the conference room with its head resting at the centre of the room. Beneath the dragon head sat a man wearing a fiery red mask that seemed somewhat out of place.

“Those are legendary items! What made you think sending them by mail was a good idea… What if something went wrong…” Chan Ka Lok said worriedly, all while caressing the new sword hanging from his waist.

Legendary items were priceless treasures that reigned supreme in the game. After switching to using the Hallowed Martial Sword, Chan Ka Lok’s combat prowess had increased by at least thirty per cent.

“It’s just an item.”

Just an item? The three of them laughed wryly. How can you be so calm! Those are legendary items, you should be hyped!

Before they could go on, the conference room doors were abruptly opened.

“Boss! You’re back? You know wha—” The voice came to a halt when the young man realised that four pairs of eyes were fixed onto him. “Oh… Um, sorry for interrupting, I’ll be leaving first then.”

“It’s alright Dan, have a seat,” said Drako Yau as he pointed to the seat beside him.

Danting froze momentarily before he walked over with an apologetic smile. “Sorry boss… Didn’t know you’re in a meeting.”

Bloodless Bladester had long since gotten used to the way Mask and his companions interacted. However, Chan Ka Lok and Yim Ho saw things differently. They found Danting was rude and Mask’s way of handling such an impudent subordinate inappropriate. Chan Ka Lok would’ve expelled the member immediately if someone dared to intrude without knocking, yet Mask even invited Danting to have a seat.

Who does he think Danting is to sit with us in an official meeting like this? Chan Ka Lok thought.

Although Danting was fairly well-known in the game, his social ranking was far beneath those present.

Danting stood silently next to Drako Yau, not daring to sit nor make a noise.

Drako Yau said with a laugh, “What’s up with you? Weren’t you barging in to tell me something?”

Upon being asked, Danting couldn’t hold back his adolescent impulses and rambled, “I just got called to the Arena by Fatty again! He’s so nice that he gave me another two items from the set this time! I’m only one short from finishing the set!”

He plucked out the items and posted their information onto the local channel. The three visitors present could also see the messages.

Nightwalker—a Level 40 epic set!

Level 40 maps aren’t even out yet! How did he get those items!

Drako Yau smiled, but his mind wasn’t as merry. As he became stronger, ordinary equipment and items had little use to him. As such, Fatty the Castellan decided to help him indirectly by strengthening his comrades.

Especially when he sent me to… that quest.

That quest was impossible to clear. If not for Hagrid’s timely appearance and forceful distortion of the quest, Drako Yau couldn’t have cleared the quest, let alone stay alive.

“Good work! Get the fifth item soon and complete the set for its effects, okay?”

“Yes!” Danting nodded enthusiastically. All he wanted was to receive Drako Yau’s praise. “Boss, I’ll go level up some more then.”

“Wait,” Drako Yau said and pulled out a heavy greatsword from his item bag.

Pzzt…

The heavy greatsword had a pyramid pommel, bloody-coloured blade, and a shiny golden ridge. Its presence alone radiated a terrifying aura.

“That’s a nice sword!”

Yim Ho, Bloodless Bladester, and Chan Ka Lok all widened their eyes at the sword. They could tell it was a legendary item at just a glance.

“Take it and go level up.”
