Chapter 245: Legendary Difficulty

Drako Yau left the house. He was merely attracted by the young lady’s charm for a moment; falling in love at first sight was beyond him given his lack of romantic emotions.

The quest gave him an oppressive feeling, albeit a vague one. Frowning, he thought, Even “The Honno-ji Incident” didn’t make me feel this way.

While “The Honno-ji Incident” quest was also very challenging, it left traces for him to follow. He also knew about the incident to a certain extent due to his interest in history. Yet now, the lack of quest hints was alarmingly abnormal. Such quests were usually very easy to clear.

But this feeling…

Drako Yau’s sights landed on the mysterious girl’s younger sister. He went over and asked, “Um excuse me, can you tell me what happened?”

The little girl shuddered in the corner of the street and uttered a word. “Bandits…”

Ding!

“Received sub-quest story intel: Bandits.”

Just like that? Drako Yau furrowed his brow. He returned to the other villagers and asked them about the situation using “bandits” as the keyword. Finally, he figured out everything.

The story was simple. Yesterday, a group of bandits had visited the village to restock their supplies. They saw the mysterious girl’s marvellous charm and wanted to make her their leader’s wife by bringing her back to their hideout.

The mysterious girl who had a gentle and weak-minded personality decisively rejected the bandits. Her decision shocked the villagers as well as the bandits. Feeling insulted, the bandits left the village and gave the villagers a day to make their decision. If they didn’t see her heading towards their hideout the next day, they’d cleanse the village with bloodshed. The village elder then demanded her to comply with the bandits’ request.

“Hero… You know we folks have no choice! They’re bandits who slaughter people without batting an eye!” the villager elder exclaimed as he trembled. “Oh mighty hero, the life and death of our village lies in your hands! If she doesn’t marry the bandits… Our village is doomed for sure!”

Ding!

“Quest triggered: Life and Death.

Option one: Help the bandits and the village elder to force the girl into marriage. Quest rarity and difficulty: Uncommon.

Option two: Help the girl by defending against ten waves of bandits. Quest rarity and difficulty: Legendary.”

Legendary?! How did this end up as a legendary quest!

What was the difference between an uncommon and legendary quest? Simply put, they were like items. A legendary item’s stats were ten to twenty times that of an uncommon item of the same level, not to mention item effects and skills.

The difference in quest difficulty of the two options was like heaven and earth.

This is no different from making me force the girl into prostitution! Drako Yau was in a bad mood. What is wrong with this quest?

He finally knew where the oppressive feeling came from. Legendary difficulty—even The Siege was just an epic event. In other words, if he chose to help the girl, he’d be taking on a quest that could be over ten times more difficult than The Siege!

“What will his choice be?”

In the futuristic room, the male and female duo were focused entirely on the red spot on the wall. The spot had gradually expanded into a circular area and its spread was still ongoing.

“The Dominator senses the impending threat and has forced the Castellans to issue the quest. Given the difficulty of the two options, everyone should easily make the right choice.” The man sounded confident.

Despite having two options, one of them was a giveaway. Choosing to help the bandits was an easy pick. Legendary quests had never appeared in the game before—not even once!

The next moment, the man’s confidence dropped to the ground along with his jaw.

Drako Yau shook his head. He reached out his hand in disappointment and slapped the button on the hologram.

“Option two!”

Immediately after Drako Yau made his decision, crackling thunder shook the skies as dark clouds took over the pleasant weather. All new players assigned to this starter village vanished and were teleported to other villages.

Drako Yau walked out of the village elder’s house. Every villager NPC had their names turned from white to green, indicating their change from neutral to friendly. They were all going to face the enemy together with him.

However… How much help could they offer?

“Quest ‘Life and Death’: Player decision received.”

“Commencing player analysis. The top twenty-five players will be teleported over and asked to make a decision.”

“Countdown: Three, two, one. Analysis complete. Commencing teleportation.”

“Issuing quest… Reading data… Reading data…”

“Number of players who have yet to decide: Five… Three…”

“All players have made their decision. Commencing teleportation to opposing forces!”

“Forces: Bandits, Villagers.”

“Countdown: Three, two, one… Teleportation complete!”

Twenty-five streaks of lightning bolted through the skies. They separated into two bundles, one with five lightning bolts and the other twenty.

Five lightning bolts struck the ground near Drako Yau, while the rest struck the forest beyond the village.

Drako Yau had heard the system’s voice all along. He was surprised; not because twenty players chose to help the bandits, but because five players were dumb enough to make the same decision of choosing the legendary quest!

The dust stirred up the lightning dispersed, and five players emerged from within.

The person in front brought a smile to Drako Yau’s face—it was Greenstone. They exchanged a glance without saying anything. Having partnered up for so long, a glance was all they needed.

As dust continued to disperse, the second player made his appearance. Donned in ancient Chinese clothing, he had a sword dangling on his waist while a ribbon tied around his forehead fluttered in the wind.

Drako Yau hadn’t expected him to be here, nor was it the first time they had met.

Chan Ka Lok, guild master of Red Flower Society!

Red Flower Society was a guild based in Evergrand. Its influence in the city was similar to that of Corrupted Officials or Hot-Blooded in Yoda. Although not as dominant as Underworld, they were a major force to be reckoned with in Evergrand and were recognised as the top second-line guild. A little push was all they needed to become a first-rate guild.

Chan Ka Lok, despite being the guild master of a fairly renowned guild, had always kept a low profile. No one really knew how strong he was in combat.
