Game’s Dogma

Chapter 215: Killing Spree

A red shadow appeared at the teleportation array.

The moment the shadow appeared, all the ranged players from Empyreon had already cast their skills at the spawn point. However, a flash of red dashed across their vision, and their skills all missed the target.

They all wondered for a moment if their aims were off after idling for so long. Suddenly, a flower of ice bloomed radiantly among the crowd, followed by a message across the battlefield channel.

‘All Yoda forces, stay strong! The cavalry has arrived!’

After the flower bloomed, players started emerging from the teleportation array; they gushed into the battlefield like a tidal wave!

‘Kill them all!’

‘Kill!’

Drako Yau and his companions rushed towards the main battlefront. That was where they were needed the most.

Clairaudiencer’s face cramped as he said, ‘Guild master! Mask is back!’

Chau Yu stood up, though he still kept his composure. ‘Tell them to hold on for a little more. We’re leading by a lot. Even if he’s crazy powerful, he can’t turn this around if we focus on defence!’

‘I knew you wouldn’t die so easily.’ Handsome Scholar grinned.

Handsome Scholar had mixed feelings about Mask. While he admired Mask for his strength, he also found it laughable that Mask was a leader.

For a leader, Mask had made too many decisions based on emotions. With the war’s outcome already set in stone, he was allowing Empyreon to proclaim that they could defeat Yoda even with Mask present. Such was the trickery of words, but that was also the truth in a sense.

Greenstone and the rest frowned upon hearing that Mask had brought reinforcements. Still, they found his action rather heart-warming deep down; who wouldn’t respect a boss who was willing to sacrifice for his subordinates and companions?

They couldn’t help but let out a chuckle. Everyone’s spirits now raised, Zephyrwolf shouted, ‘The boss is back! Brothers, hang in there!’

Zephyrwolf seemed to have become stronger out of the blue. No game mechanics nor statistics could explain this phenomenon—for he was simply being human. Through emotions, humans could gain strength. Players from Yoda all cheered and made battlecries as their morale shot through the roof.

‘Mask? So what!’ Tripurity snickered, but his face suggested otherwise. He feared Mask ever since he saw Moonless Night’s video of Mask in action. Still, he couldn’t bring himself to admit it. ‘We’ll send him back to the altar in a flash if he dares to come here!’

Tripurity also steeled himself. He started muttering something, and the swords soaring through the air began multiplying.

Level 30 Taoist skill, Hundred-Sword Rain. A powerful area-of-effect skill!

Just when the hundred swords were close to reaching the crowd, a red shadow leapt up into the air. A dragon aura, accompanied by a roar, dashed at Tripurity who was in the middle of casting his skill. It seized him, interrupting his skill and flinging him into the air.

Dragon Capturing Hand!

‘I’m quite intrigued by how you’re gonna kill me.’ The voice was cold and emotionless.

From Tripurity’s perspective, Mask’s demonic mask enlarged rapidly before flames engulfed him. With a loud boom, he died and turned into a flash of white without realising what killed him.

Drako Yau descended upon the battlefield like a devil followed by his army from hell. Idyllic Poet also fought eagerly as she shouted and pointed her staff at her enemies, rousing seas of flames and cries of agony. She was like the goddess of fire with her extraordinary equipment and Phoenix Ring.

‘It’s Mask! Focus all your attacks on him!’

Moonless Night’s eyes turned bloodshot when he saw Mask landing on the ground. He had to kill Mask at all costs!

Countless spells and arrows rained down upon Drako Yau. He grunted and shrouded his spear in flames while his eyes turned icy blue. Every attack from the front was either deflected or blocked, and those that struck from the rear landed on the Devil King’s Cloak, creating little ripples like pebbles tossed into a lake.

Dust and soil fluttered everywhere after the concentrated bombardment. The Empyreon players tried to peek through the smog, hoping to check if Mask was dead or not.

Suddenly, a pillar of flames erupted into the sky and dispersed the smog. Scorching flames, a fiery red mask, and a bloody cloak awaited them.

The Devil King’s Cloak reduced all damage received from the rear by thirty per cent. Paired with Greenstone’s powerful healing, the bombardment failed to kill him!

Desperation spread among the Empyreon players; how could they win if several hundred of them couldn’t kill him? It was almost like his character was a bug!

Handsome Scholar pulled Moonless Night’s arm and said, ‘Guild master has given the order to retreat and hold onto the lead.’

Moonless Night flung Handsome Scholar’s hand away. His face flushed red as he screeched, ‘Retreat my ass! Kill that bastard! We have to kill him no matter what!’

Whenever Moonless Night saw Mask, he found himself trembling in terror. To him, Mask had already become a demon, and the only way to face this demon was to kill him.

Drako Yau glared at them through his mask. He charged fearlessly at Empyreon’s main forces with great momentum, his crimson cloak flailing behind him like a bloody cloud, leaving behind trails of gore and blood everywhere he passed by.

Standing behind the guild master of Assassination Coalition was a teenager whose eyes shone brightly; his eyes were fixed on Drako Yau who was currently rampaging across the battlefield.

‘Big bro, I wanna head out too!’

Hearing the words ‘big bro’, Goemon furrowed his brow as he cut down another enemy.

‘It’s too reckless… If your ability comes to light now…’ he said while moving swiftly between enemies, cutting down another two players.

As the guild master of Assassination Coalition, Goemon had the strength to back up his position. He now had two peculiar passive skills after receiving Ishikawa Goemon’s inheritance.

‘Empty Pockets: Steal the target’s gold coins when landing a basic attack or skill on a target. The amount stolen is random.’

‘One Toss Sets It All: Wealth equals power. Increases Attack proportionally to the number of gold coins carried.’

Goemon brought half a million gold coins on him at all times, and that was naturally a double-edged sword. The good thing was of course the massive bonus to his already terrifying Attack as an assassin. He could even kill relatively less robust tanks by lurking and backstabbing them with a full combo. Needless to say, clerics, mages, and rangers stood no chance at all.

The only downside was he’d drop a lot of coins whenever he died—and that was no small sum by any means.

‘Now’s the best time! I’m sure making my debut in the first-ever City War is gonna be really cool!’ The teen, protected by many of his guild members, waved his arms around and yelled.

Goemon looked at Judge Chui, who frowned a little. As Judge Chui was an advisor of the guild, Goemon would ask for his opinion on a lot of issues.

After pondering briefly, Judge Chui nodded. ‘Now that Mask has returned, we might be able to turn this around if we throw everything we’ve got at it. The City War penalty is too great for any of us to bear. We can’t afford to be stingy with our trump cards now!’

Judge Chui knew exactly what his words entailed as he thought, Once everyone knows this kid’s ability…

Goemon sighed, then looked at the exhilarated teen.

His ID was Moonnight. And he was Goemon’s younger brother in real life.

‘Go, Moonie.’

Having received his brother’s permission, Moonnight nodded energetically.

‘Ahem, ahem!’

He spread open his right palm and extended his arm forwards. Light gathered and twisted behind him before taking shape.

A microphone appeared in his hand, and two classic hi-fi stereo speakers levitated above his shoulders!
