Game’s Dogma

Chapter 212: Gandalf

Val the Balrog stood behind Drako Yau, both literally and metaphorically. After spending so much time together, the man and demon duo had forged a friendship that was close to becoming family.

From what Val told him, he had been sitting there on the ground, cultivating and harmonising his forces for an entire year! He was dumbfounded; I’ve been trapped in this damn place for three years!

The urge to break free from this eerie place overwhelmed him. After inspecting how his body was coping with the change, he prepared for the great escape. His body and the two forces within him had all settled down, and he named his newly founded cultivation style the Cryoflame Style. It was directly named after the Cryoflame Jade that Destiny had given him a long time ago; albeit simple, no other name could fit any better.

Speaking of the Cryoflame Jade, it had now lost its radiance. The energy it once harboured had all been expended and only its husk remained as a decorative item. Still, Drako Yau didn’t throw it away and continued to wear it all the time. If not for the Cryoflame Jade, he would’ve exploded when the forces rampaged.

‘Hah…’

Drako Yau took in a deep breath and slowly activated the yin-yang symbol in his body. It spun faster and faster, devouring the icy force in his upper body and the fiery force in his lower body like a black hole. The quicker it devoured, the quicker the symbol spun.

Soon, the ying-yang symbol radiated waves of energy and lit up the Eight Diagrams, granting Drako Yau the great power he needed. Flames slithered all over Shooting Star as he swung it heavily towards the ground.

Sparks exploded all over the place, and the silverish ground broke apart. However, it began mending itself right away.

‘Val!’ Drako Yau shouted.

Val the Balrog howled. It clasped its hands into fists and pummeled them into the crater Drako Yau made, shuddering the ground along with a massive boom.

Once Val retracted its fists, Drako Yau immediately thrust his spear downwards at the ground. The flaming spear struck the ground like a missile.

如果在游龍未突破之前,就算他跟小哈聯手也快不過這空間的回復。

Buffed by the Cryoflame style’s flames, all of Drako Yau’s attacks contained tremendous force, but that also consumed a proportional amount of his internal forces. Thankfully, there was no such thing as force consumption in this weird space, so he could strike repeatedly without holding back.

What mattered now was whether the damage dealt could overwhelm the space’s self-recovery rate.

Before his breakthrough, his strength wasn’t enough to overcome the space’s recovery rate even with Val’s aid. Now, every bit of his internal forces was being used at maximum efficiency thanks to the Tai-Chi formation. Val had also improved greatly after honing Dragon Seeker.

Both of them were vastly different from their previous selves three years ago. With the two joining hands, the crater was gradually becoming larger. Drako Yau could also sense that the entire silvery space began distorting.

He smiled. This meant his idea was right—when the perfect cycle of self-recovery was broken apart by force, the space would collapse onto itself.

‘Val! Go for it, we’re close!’

‘Grrrr!’

The two hammered the ground enthusiastically while howling and shouting. They were like hard-working farmers ploughing the ground… until a weird sound resounded throughout the entire space.

Drako Yau felt the ground softening as if turning into a swamp. He was more excited than anything as he lifted his spear overhead and struck it into the ground and yelled, ‘Break apart!’

The silvery ground shattered like a mirror, and the silvery-white space disintegrated. Drako Yau and Val both fell through the void upon losing their footing.

Suddenly, they were struck with a chilly sensation. Spots of white floated before their eyes—snow!

Drako Yau was overjoyed.  At least it’s not that eerie space anymore!

As the man and demon duo fell through the air, they saw a mountain range beneath them. Every peak was covered by a white veil that consisted of snow.

‘Fiend! Why are you here!’ someone bellowed out of nowhere.

The shout shuddered the mountains and induced an avalanche. Meanwhile, a silhouette emerged from the snowy ground into the sky and flew towards the falling duo. Suddenly, the snow in the air all froze in place before gradually merging to form a hundred-metre-large frosty bird, which then dived straight towards them.

They couldn’t evade it as they were currently freefalling. With his life in danger, the yin-yang symbol spun crazily like a tornado, harmonising the polarised forces of ice and fire into usable forces.

He flicked his spear upwards with great force—Soaring Flames! The flames, now enhanced by his Cryoflame style, truly had the momentum to soar through the air. The slit of fire easily cut the frosty bird apart.

‘Hmph! Fiend, you’ve improved!’

The silhouette was now right before them. Drako Yau was stunned to find out that it belonged to a familiar person.

‘Gandalf!’

Gandalf was about to cast another spell when he heard Drako Yau’s shout. He halted his magic and squinted his eyes, then asked, ‘You’re… You’re that human…’

‘I’m Dragonspear!’

Gandalf and Drako Yau sat before a campfire in a cave among one of the mountains. Val was too massive to fit inside the cave, so it stayed at the entrance; not that the cold bothered it anyways.

Gandalf resumed his usual, tranquil aura. He was now white; even his long hair and beard had turned silvery white. Still in a bit of a daze, he said hazily, ‘Never thought I’d meet you here, young man.’

Drako Yau also felt like thousands of years had passed after not meeting a human for so long. His situation was better compared to Gandalf’s though because he had Val as a companion.

Gandalf had fallen into the Abyss of Durin back then as well, and it turned out that this wasn’t the only abyss. He had fallen into the deeper layer, the glacial space, while Drako Yau and Val had fallen into the silvery space above.

Alone among the snowy mountains where nothing but whiteness and coldness ensued, Gandalf stayed true to his mission and kept himself sane. He even awakened to the verity of ice magic and experienced a breakthrough.

The two exchanged their stories on how they spent the past few years. Gandalf’s eyes lit up as he said, ‘We can surely get out of this place if you join hands with me!’

Drako Yau shook his head. ‘Not just me. Val also has to leave this place together.’

Gandalf’s face fell. He said, ‘Young man, the Balrogs are pesky fiends. It’s better to leave it here, or it shall bring doom upon the world.’

Drako Yau replied firmly, ‘Val is my friend. Without it, I couldn’t have endured the past three years, nor could I break free from the silvery space and reach all the way here.’

‘That thing… Can it really be trusted?’ Gandalf peeked at the Balrog sitting outside the cave.

Drako Yau nodded and said, ‘I’m sure about it. During the year I was breaking through, it could easily have killed me, but it didn’t. Does that not prove its trustworthiness?’
