7. You Regained Your Intelligence?

Translator: Snowball

Concubine Fang covered her mouth with her hand, the red polish on her nails looking especially bright. “What’s wrong with little Jingle? It has been obedient and adorable. How come it became so irritable at the sight of Miss Yingxue?” she said with a scornful smile.

“Maybe because little Jingle is shy with strangers,” Xu Min answered with a smile.

“Oh! I thought that it could understand what we were talking about!”

As soon as Concubine Fang finished her words, Jingle barked at Mu Yingxue a few more times, which aroused another burst of laughter. Concubine Fang and Mu Yueli, who was standing next to her wearing pink clothes, couldn’t even hide their contempt and detestation for Mu Yingxue.

Xu Min immediately brushed little Jingle’s hair with her fingers to comfort it.

“I’m going to let Jingle run with the beaded flower in its mouth. If you can catch up with it, the beaded flower will be yours.”

“Really?” Mu Yingxue asked, pretending to be excited.

“Of course! Why would mother lie to you?”

“But…”

“But what?” Xu Min asked, raising her brows.

“Mother, the dog is so tiny. I’m afraid you’ll punish me if I injure it by accident.”

Xu Min sneered inwardly. “You moron! Even a dog is much smarter than you. How can you injure little Jingle? Know when you’re beaten!” she thought.

Pretending to be a little annoyed, Xu Min answered, “Do you think I’m one of those wicked women who punishes people at will? Don’t worry. Even if you injure it by accident, I won’t punish you.”

A sneer crossed Mu Yingxue’s lips quickly, but she didn’t show anything abnormal in her eyes. “So that means I can go for the beaded flower by any means, right?”

“Sure,” Xu Min answered affirmatively. If she had paid a little more attention to Mu Yingxue, she would have found that there was not the slightest hint of innocence or dullness in her eyes anymore. Then a moment later, she wouldn’t have felt bitterly regret that she had made such a decision.

“Okay!”

Xu Ming was overjoyed to see that Mu Yingxue already took the bait. She then tied the beaded flower to Jingle’s neck.

Little Jingle jumped down from Xu Min’s laps swiftly. Rushing towards Mu Yingxue, it bared its fangs and suddenly nipped her trouser leg, which made Ouyang Ruo’s heart skip a beat.

Fortunately, the winter clothes were thick, so although her cotton-padded trousers were pierced by its sharp fangs, Mu Yingxue didn’t get injured except that her skin turned a little reddish.

Seeing that little Jingle had no intention to let go of Mu Yingxue, Lanyu picked a piece of cake up and threw it out of the hall, which lured Jingle out in the blink of an eye.

Everyone stared at it curiously, expecting to see how the dog would make a fool of Mu Yingxue.

However, Mu Yingxue only turned her head slowly instead of chasing it.

When she saw that little Jingle was about to run back after eating up the cake, Lanyu walked out of the main hall with a plate in her hand and threw another piece of cake farther away.

Ouyang Ruo’s eyes turned bloodshot when she realized that these people were only fooling around her daughter, so she stood out of the crowd and questioned, “Madam, it’s unfair! If Lanyu keeps on throwing the cakes, it will be impossible for Ying’er to catch up with little Jingle.”

Xu Min’s face immediately darkened at her words. “I don’t think so. Nothing comes for nothing, so if you want something, you fight for it,” she lectured.

Mu Yingxue answered in agreement, “Mother, you’re right. To get what you want, you have to pay the price. If I want your beaded flower, I’ll have to catch up with little Jingle. And mother, if you want to make fun of your silly daughter, you’ll have to pay the price too.”

Xu Min had intended to embarrass Mu Yingxue in front of the crowd, but when she heard what the latter said, she was so stunned that she almost bounced off her chair. Mu Yingxue’s words also caused a sensation among other people.

Xu Min sized Mu Yingxue up and was surprised to find that she looked like a totally different person. The innocent look in her eyes had turned aggressive and unfathomable, which made Xu Min couldn’t help shivering inwardly.

“You… You regained your intelligence?”

With a quirky smile on her face, Mu Yingxue answered in a sweet voice, “Mother, I really didn’t expect that you would be startled by something I did out of my good intention. Anyhow, I should be blamed for that.”

“You… Impossible!” How could a person regain intelligence after ten years of mental retardation? Anyway, she couldn’t believe that Mu Yingxue had become a person with normal intelligence.

“As it turns out, anything is possible.”

Mu Yingxue turned around gracefully with a smile on her face, which made everyone widen their eyes. Seeing her narrowing her eyes and fixing her gaze on little Jingle that was running towards another piece of cake, Xu Min had a bad feeling.

Mu Yingxue pulled the wooden hairpin out of her hair and weighed it in her hands. “Mother, with your exquisite beaded flower, I don’t think I need the wooden one anymore.”

Her eyes shone like lightning as she suddenly hurled the dull wooden hairpin. ‘Whoosh!’ like a started-off arrow from a full bow, the hairpin, wrapped in the wind, rushed to Jingle with dense murderous intent.

“Mu Yingxue, how dare you!”

Needless to say, Xu Min’s roar couldn’t slow the hairpin down. At the moment, almost everyone widened their eyes, held their breath and couldn’t help shivering out of fright.

Actually, they weren’t worried about little Jingle’s safety but was only taken aback by Mu Yingxue’s killing intent and ferociousness.

As little Jingle was running, it didn’t have time to react before falling to the ground all of a sudden. It let out a miserable cry and began to shiver in the snow.

“Jingle!” Xu Min exclaimed and dashed out of the hall. Then Lanyu rushed to the yard as well, followed by a bunch of people.

Looking at the shivering dog, Xu Min asked anxiously, “Lanyu, how is Jingle?”

Lanyu bent over, checked little Jingle’s wound and then answered, “Madam, its leg was pierced by the wooden hairpin.”

“Pick it up and stop the bleeding first. Hurry up!”

“Yes, Madam!”

Lanyu was about to pick Jingle up from the ground but was stopped by Mu Yingxue. “Its leg has been pinned to the ground with my wooden hairpin, so you’d better leave it alone if you don’t want it to become lame.”

With that, Mu Yingxue picked up the beaded flower beside the dog, wiped the blood off it with the dog’s small jacket and pinned it to her black hair before pulling the wooden hairpin from the dog’s leg. Groaning in agony, little Jingle curved up on the ground while looking at Mu Yingxue in horror with tears in its eyes.

Lanyu picked little Jingle up and bandaged its wound with a handkerchief in haste, feeling a twinge in her heart.

She then turned to Xu Min, “Madam…”

Xu Min widened her eyes, gritted her teeth while yelling angrily, “Why are you still standing here? Go get Jingle a doctor!”

Lanyu immediately rushed out of the yard with little Jingle in her arms.

Out of rage, Xu Min raised her hand and was about to slap Mu Yingxue in the face. “Mu Yingxue, how dare you injure little Jingle? Are you aware of the terrible mistake you’ve made?”

Xu Min wore a nail wrap on each of her nails, which was as sharp as the tip of a hairpin, so if her hand landed on Mu Yingxue’s face, the latter would highly likely be disfigured.
