19. It’s Known as the King Scorpion

In spite of her hatred, Xu Min had to pretend to be generous in front of so many people. “Yes. Fortunately, she only broke its leg, so you don’t need to tell Princess Xian about it.” Actually, Xu Min was hinting Mu Shuilan to report it to Princess Xian whenever possible.

Instead of responding to her mother, Mu Shuilan only said, “Thank God!” However, Mu Yueli didn’t want to miss such a good chance to flatter Xu Min. “Mother, how did Mu Yingxue break little Jingle’s leg? How could she be so daring?” she asked.

The fact that Mu Yueli could get more benefits than other concubine’s daughters in the mansion had a lot to do with her currying favor with Xu Min and Mu Shuilan to the utmost. Xu Min enjoyed her flattering very much, thinking that she showed enough respect for her in front of other people.

“As she’s different from ordinary people, it’s normal if she has done something incredible. But I’ve never expected that she would have pieced Jingle’s leg with her hairpin. Her ruthlessness is chilling!” Xu Min claimed but mentioned nothing about her trying to humiliate Mu Yingxue with a dog.

Mu Yueli covered her mouth with her sleeve, feigning her fear. “It’s terrible! I didn’t expect her to be so violent. Mother, to prevent her from doing such terrible things again, you should teach her a good lesson. Since she dared injure a dog with a hairpin, she might stab someone with a knife next time!”

Hearing that, those concubines and their daughters got flustered. A moron didn’t think the same way as normal people, so they worried that Mu Yingxue would do something crazy one day.

Xu Min was hesitating about whether to punish Mu Yingxue as Mu Yueli suggested or not when she suddenly heard Mu Shuilan speaking softly, “Mother, I don’t think Sister Yingxue has broken Jingle’s leg on purpose. Though she acts out of the ordinary occasionally, I don’t believe she will hurt people with a knife.”

“But Sister Shuilan, our mother said she had injured little Jingle with her hairpin. I’m afraid that she…”

Mu Shuilan glanced at her coldly, which sent chills down Mu Yueli’s spine. “Sister Yueli, how can a beast be compared with a human being? What’s more, it’s only your deduction. If the rumor about our mother punished Sister Yingxue without evidence spreads, how will the outsiders think of her?”

What Mu Shuilan said reminded Xu Min. Mu Yueli couldn’t bear a fool being more beautiful than her, so she often took pleasure in bullying Mu Yingxue. Though Xu Min knew about this, as she also hated Ouyang Ruo for stealing her husband’s love, she turned a blind eye to what Mu Yueli had done to Mu Yingxue and her mother. However, she didn’t expect that Mu Yueli would be so bold that she even intended to make use of her! At the thought that she almost took the bait, Xu Min couldn’t help shooting an angry glare at Mu Yueli.

Though Mu Yueli had always been stroppy, she didn’t dare offend Mu Shuilan. Now that Mu Shuilan didn’t want her to continue, she could only shut up obediently. Seeing Xu Min’s angry look, she knew she had nearly shot herself in the foot just now. Glancing at Ouyang Ruo from the corner of her eyes, Mu Yueli decided to vent her anger on Mu Yingxue.

After Xu Min dismissed everyone, Mu Yueli went back to her own room and said to her personal maid, “I remember you once told me that your uncle was in the scorpions business. It’s said liquor with scorpions steeped in is good for health and can prolong life. I wonder if someone stung by the scorpion will go to heaven in an instant.”

The maid who had been serving her for years was also her accomplice in bullying Mu Yingxue. Associating Mu Yueli’s words with what had happened in the hall, she rolled her eyes and immediately figured out her master’s intention.

“Miss, you’re right. It will take longer for the liquor to kick in, so we’ll see the results sooner if we let her get stung by a scorpion. I’m going to my uncle to get one right now. Someone will taste the delicacy of a scorpion soon!”

Watching her henchman leaving, Mu Yueli revealed a triumphant sneer on her lips.

After waving good-bye to Xuanyuan Sheng, Mu Yingxue came back to the Mu’s Mansion, but instead of going back to her own room, she went to Ouyang Ruo first.

Ouyang Ruo was waiting for her anxiously in the room. When Mammy Qiao told her that Mu Yingxue had come back, she immediately walked out to meet her.

Without knowing it, Ouyang Ruo had taken Mu Yingxue as her backbone. Though she had no idea why her daughter suddenly turned to be so aggressive, she thought that it was at least much better than being bullied by others like before. She had been worried that Mu Yingxue would be bullied, but now she was more worried that she might be retaliated against.

“Mom, I’m back!”

Mu Yingxue held Ouyang Ruo’s hands with a smile. The delicate lady in front of her was the mother of the original owner of her body, so she had taken Ouyang Ruo as her own mother and was determined to protect her for the former Mu Yingxue.

Seeing her daughter in high spirits, Ouyang Ruo left all her grievance behind. She stoked Mu Yingxue’s cheek while looking at her with loving eyes.

“I’ve been worrying about you. I’m relieved now.”

Mu Yingxue felt something warmth rising from the bottom of her heart. The feeling of being cared about was so good! “Mom, don’t you remember I’ve regained my intelligence? Don’t worry. Nothing will ever happen to me again.”

With that, she made a face and revealed a smile mischievously, which made Ouyang Ruo can’t help laughing with her hand covering her mouth.

Mammy Qiao was moved to tears at the sight of the heartwarming scene. She wiped her joyful tears with her sleeve, which happened to be seen by Liu’er.

As everyone was in a good mood, Liu’er couldn’t help teasing her. “Mammy Qiao, there’s no wind in the room, how come you got so much sand in your eyes?” she chuckled.

Mammy Qiao patted her on the head, pretending to be annoyed. While everyone was chatting and laughing, Mu Yingxue suddenly asked with a wary look, “Mom, did anyone bully you again today?”

Ouyang Ruo paused for a while, realizing that she had failed to hide her worries.

“Mom, Mammy Qiao, we’re family. I’ve recovered now, so if anyone dares bully you, just tell me. I’ll definitely make her regret what she did!”

Watching her daughter’s resolute expression which was even kind of ruthless, Ouyang Ruo suddenly remembered what Mu Yueli had said. “Is Yingxue really likely to… No, she’s a nice girl. She won’t do anything that will let Mammy Qiao and me down.” At the thought of this, Ou Yangruo decided to tell Mu Yingxue what had happened during the day, hoping she could be wary of Mu Yueli.

“Mu Yueli? As she’s asking for trouble, she shouldn’t blame me!” Mu Yingxue said with a snort.

Bearing Ouyang Ruo’s reminders in mind, Mu Yingxue asked Liu’er to wait outside before she walked into her room and examined every corner.

“Miss, are you okay?”

Waiting outside, Liu’er couldn’t help but ask when she heard abnormal sounds coming from the room.

Mu Yingxue was standing still in the room, holding a wooden hairpin, which was the one she used to pierce the dog’s leg. A gray scorpion that had been stabbed in the stomach by the hairpin was struggling desperately, the sting on its tail shimmering with a cold gleam.

“Ah!” Liu’er was stunned at the sight of the terrible scene.

Mu Yingxue put her index finger on her lips to shush her, gesturing her to close the door.

“Miss, what’s this?” Liu’er asked in horror.

Standing a meter away from her, Liu didn’t dare move closer.

“A female scorpion. This kind of scorpion with the best medicinal effect is known as the King Scorpion.”

Liu’er waited until the scorpion stopped moving before walking over. “Where did it get in? I didn’t find it when I tidied up the room this morning.” Liu’er looked at the scorpion with curiosity.

“Thankfully you didn’t see it in the morning, or you wouldn’t have been able to speak to me now.”

Liu’er’s face turned pale out of fright. “Mi… Miss, where did you find it? Aren’t you scared?” she asked in a trembling voice.

“Scared?”

When she had been on a mission in the mountains in her previous life, she often ate things like snakes and scorpions. However, to avoid startling Liu’er, she made an understatement, “It’s already dead, so I’m not afraid of it now. You won’t get hurt if you don’t touch the sting on its tail. I found it in my bed. Don’t tell anyone about it, including my mother.”

At the thought of what Ouyang Ruo had told them just now, Liu’er seemed to have figured something out. “Miss, did someone put it in your bed deliberately to poison you?”

Mu Yingxue looked at her and nodded casually before shifting her gaze to the bed. “Mu Yueli, It seems you can’t wait to make a death wish!” she thought resentfully with a hint of coldness flashing in her eyes.

“Liu’er, where can I buy living scorpions?”

At night, the moon shone brightly in the sky with a few stars around it.

Mu Yingxue appeared outside of Mu Yueli’s door with a jar in her hands.

It was after midnight and everything was silent. The bright moonlight poured down in the courtyard, leaving the mottled shadows of the trees on the ground.

Mu Yingxue pushed open the door cautiously and when the door leaf was about two palms away from the frame, she opened the lid of the jar and tilted it with its mouth facing the room.

Numerous scorpions that looked exactly like the one in her bed crawled out of the jar slowly. They stormed into the room and were scattered in every corner soon.

After the last scorpion crawled out, Mu Yingxue put the jar away and closed the door quietly. She then left with a yawn, as if nothing had happened.

The next morning, a miserable scream rang through the whole backyard of the Mu’s Mansion.

The servants who were cleaning the yard rushed in the direction the scream came from. When they arrived there, they saw someone dashing out from Miss Yueli’s room with messy hair.

“Help! Help!” From her voice, they could tell it was Miss Yueli’s maid. At this point, they heard the intermittent screams ringing in the room, but no matter how hard they tried to listen, they couldn’t make out the reason why she was shouting.

“Help! Come in to save Miss Yueli!” The maid shouted at everyone in front of her. “Report to Madam Xu! Hurry up! Tell her there are a lot of venomous scorpions in Miss Yueli’s room!”

“Venomous scorpions?”

People who were timid turned pale as soon as they heard it. Those who were a little bit more audacious moved to the door and couldn’t prevent their hair from standing on end when they saw countless scorpions crawling in the room.

Surrounded by a pile of scorpions, a person in white underwear was standing on the table. She kept waving the pillow to sweep down those scorpions trying to climb on the table, her hair in a mess, which made her look like a lunatic. As the floor around the table was covered with the crawling scorpions, it was impossible for her to put her feet on it.

The maids of other courtyards ran out to see what had happened. When they saw that Mu Yueli’s room was full of scorpions, they immediately rushed back to their courtyards to report to their masters. Those timid and weak young ladies asked the servants to check their rooms at once and even didn’t dare step out of their courtyard, let alone go to Mu Yueli’s room to see what was happening.
