17. The Vanished Lady

Translator: Snowball

Mu Yingxue was somewhat discontented with Xuanyuan Sheng’s unannounced arrival. Therefore, instead of answering him immediately after he questioned her identity, she only shot him a cold glare.

This baby-faced Seventh Prince was eccentric both in character and in behavior. Moreover, he had been circling her for quite a while just now, which almost made her dizzy. At the thought of this, Mu Yingxue couldn’t help giving him the cold shoulder. Xuanyuan Sheng was used to being pampered and flattered, so Mu Yingxue’s coldness made him feel that she was quite different from other people and he became more curious about her.

Being tired of his nagging, Mu Yingxue finally answered him grumpily.

At this point, Liu’er, who was watching the performance by the window, suddenly let out a cry in surprise, which startled the two.

Seeing that her master and the Seventh Prince were all looking at her in surprise, Liu’er immediately blushed at her own fuss. She then pointed at the window and said, “Miss, Your Highness, look! He made that lady disappear!”

Though Liu’er didn’t describe it clearly, looking in the direction she pointed at, Mu Yingxue had figured out what was happening. This kind of magic show was common in modern society, so she didn’t think it was anything new. However, as Liu’er was so excited, Mu Yingxue didn’t want to be a wet blanket.

Xuanyuan Sheng was surprised when he found that Mu Yingxue was indifferent to the magic show which had swept the capital city recently. What was more, she seemed to have seen through the magician’s game! “Is the fourth daughter of Marquis Mu not a moron, but a genius?” he wondered.

“Aren’t you curious?” he couldn’t help asking.

Seeing the surprise look on his baby face, Mu Yingxue felt that although this Seventh Prince was a little bit quirky, he was much better than Xuanyuan Jin, so she explained patiently, “It’s just a small trick for children. It’s nothing to be surprised about.”

In addition to feeling surprised, Xuanyuan Sheng couldn’t help praising Mu Yingxue inwardly as she was even more arrogant than him!

“As a maiden who seldom comes out of your mansion, how dare you talk wildly like that? Tell me why you said it was just a small trick.”

With the common sense in her previous life, even without using her X-ray eyes, Mu Yingxue had figured out where the vanished lady had gone. “It’s easy! There must be a concealed chamber in the interlayer of the wooden box or a hidden path under the stage. But as the lady who won the dumpling eating contest is so strong, I think it’s difficult for her to hide in the concealed chamber, so she must have left by the secret way,” she said casually.

Xuanyuan Sheng had never heard of anything like this. He turned his head and looked out of the window, but only saw that all the onlookers had been amazed by the middle-aged man’s performance and were applauding for him desperately. They clapped so hard that Xuanyuan Sheng was afraid they might break their hand bones at any moment. He then turned his head again and looked at Mu Yingxue with a suspicious look in his eyes.

“How come you so certain it wasn’t that man who used his superpowers to make the lady disappear?”

Looking up at him, Mu Yingxue found his question very funny. She had forgotten that she was now in an ancient country where people were still superstitious. “If he were really that powerful, would the current emperor still hold the throne?” she asked back.

Xuanyuan Sheng’s face blushed with anger at her words. “Your Highness, once you care about something too much, you can’t make the right judgment. If he were that capable, he wouldn’t have performed in the street to catch people’s attention but served the court. I’m sure it’s easy for such a person to get an official position, even a very high-rank one,” Mu Yingxue continued.

“How dare you!” Before Xuanyuan Sheng could recover from the shock, Mu Yingxue overturned his assumption and talked about politics randomly to his face, which made him become even angrier. However, disregarding his displeasure, Mu Yingxue was about to go on satirizing him for amusement. Seeing Xuanyuan Sheng losing his temper, Liu’er became anxious. To avoid conflict between them, when she suddenly saw a familiar figure walking onto the stage, she immediately asked Mu Yingxue to have a look.

“Miss! Miss! Come here! Is that the childe we met in the street just now?”

“The childe?”

Mu Yingxue froze for a moment before she suddenly recalled the young lady in a man’s attire who had tried to catch the pickpocket. She then walked to the window.

Xuanyuan Sheng was burning with fury when he saw that Mu Yingxue not only ignored his anger but also was in the mood to watch the performance. Because of his mother, the emperor doted on him so much that no royal member or official dared go against him to his face. However, as Mu Yingxue was the first one who was so contemptuous of him, in spite of his anger, he had no idea what to do with her for the moment.

“Gee!” Mu Yingxue felt something wrong, so she immediately summoned her spiritual power and probed the wooden box with her X-ray eyes.

“What’s up?”

At the sight of her anxious look, Xuanyuan Sheng couldn’t help asking, leaving all his anger behind.

Having no time to answer him, Mu Yingxue held the frame of the window and was about to jump off. But after hesitating for a few seconds, she thought it was improper to do so, so she turned around and rushed to the staircase in haste instead.

“Come with me to save someone if you want to know what happened!”

With that, Mu Xueyan dashed out and disappeared at the corner of staircase before Xuanyuan Sheng could say anything.

Xuanyuan Sheng failed to come up with an idea to deal with Mu Yingxue only because he had never met anyone as unique as her, but actually, he was a very smart person. After thinking for a short while, he figured out her intention and leaped off from the window in an instant.

“Please wait for a moment. We’ll be back soon!”

When Liu’er came back to her senses, the two had gone. Liu’er wasn’t surprised about this Seventh Prince’s quick action, but she wondered from when her master had become so swift that she could disappear from sight in the blink of an eye.

Mu Yingxue squeezed through the crowd and then jumped onto the stage. Before the middle-aged man could stop her, she pushed him away and rushed into the wooden box.

With too much force, the black cloth on the box was ripped off by her before she suddenly vanished under everyone’s gaze.

All the onlookers were caught dumbfounded, but before they could come back to their senses, they saw a young man with a delicate face rushed onto the stage like a gust of wind and disappeared in the wooden box as well.

After a few seconds of silence, someone in the crowd suddenly cried out, “There’s a hole in the stage. This guy is a swindler!”

Hearing that, those people suddenly took a tumble. They stormed onto the stage out of rage and beat that middle-aged man up, which made the stage immediately descend into chaos.

After finding the concealed path under the stage, Mu Yingxue moved forward quickly using her Qing Kung and soon arrived at the exit on the other end. As soon as she came to the surface of the ground, she saw two men in coarse clothes rush forward, carrying a person on their shoulders. From their statures and pace, she could tell that both of them were martial arts practitioners. With a frown, Mu Yingxue kicked against the ground with her tiptoe and bounced herself up.

Sensing someone chasing them, one of the two people immediately put his fingers into his mouth and whistled before a number of martial artists in black clothes popped up from all directions.

Mu Yingxue was in no hurry when she saw those martial artists closing in on her. She turned sideways and dodged the blade a martial artist thrust to her swiftly. She then reached out and aimed at his wrist. With a sound of fracture, the martial artist’s wrist was broken while the blade slipped from his hand. Mu Yingxue picked the blade before it fell to the ground and stabbed it to her enemy without hesitation, which caused the blood to gush out from that martial artist’s neck in an instant.

Waving the blade, she jumped up and down, left and right from time to time, and turned those martial artists into a pile of corpses in a short moment. The two men who were carrying a person on their shoulders were so stunned when they looked back and saw what had happened. Using their Qing Kung, they rushed forward as fast as they could.

Watching their receding figures, Mu Yingxue revealed a sneer on her lips. She then gave a vigorous kick against the ground and bounced forward about seven meters while throwing the blade in her hand at the person which was nearer to her.

Being stabbed in the back, that man staggered a few times before falling to the ground. When he felt a sudden weight on his shoulder, the other man in the front looked back and found his companion had died. He looked up and saw Mu Yingxue rushing to him in rage. As he had no chance to escape, he decided to fight Mu Yingxue to the death. Watching him dash to her, Mu Yingxue stretched her leg and knocked him to the ground. As quick as lightening, she disjointed all his limbs in the blink of an eye so that he couldn’t move.

“Why did you catch her?” Mu Yingxue pinched his jaw to prevent him from committing suicide by biting off his tongue.

That martial artist seemed to be a tough man. He closed his eyes and refused to answer. With a snort, Mu Yingxue hooked her fingers slightly and disjointed his jaw, stop asking him any questions.

After helping the young lady up, Mu Yingxue pinched her philtrum and heaved a sigh of relief when the young lady finally woke up. However, to her surprise, as soon as the beauty opened her eyes, she muttered, “Brother Sheng!”
