Bulgarian Empire

Chapter 10, Equipping Aircraft to Companies

On March 12, 1918, the Bulgarian Military Council announced the new division of military regions, personnel appointments and deployment of troops, including the final disarmament plan.

According to the plan, Bulgaria will be divided into ten military regions, three of which are in the Balkans, namely:

The Transylvania Military District is responsible for the defense of the northwestern territory of Bulgaria, with a total strength of about 65,000;

The Belgrade Military District is responsible for the territorial defense of the southwestern region, including Bosnia and Herzegovina, with a total strength of about 48,000;

The Sofia Military District is responsible for the entire territory from the Black Sea coast to the Mediterranean Sea, including the defense of the former Bulgaria, Constantinople, the Greek Peninsula, Albania and other regions, with a total force of about 85,000. (Note: The 100,000 guards are not counted.)

There are four military regions in Asia, namely:

The Asia Minor Peninsula Military Region is mainly responsible for the defense of the Asia Minor Peninsula. The current main task is to keep an eye on the Ottomans in Ankara, with a total force of about 96,000.

The Transcaucasus Military District is mainly responsible for the defense of Georgia, with a total strength of about 32,000 troops;

The Persian Gulf Military Region is mainly responsible for the defense of Iraq, Iran, and the coastal areas of the Persian Gulf, with a total force of about 68,000;

The Middle East Military Region is mainly responsible for the defense of Syria, Jordan, Palestine, and the Arabian Peninsula, with a total force of about 88,000; (including Somalia)

There are also three military regions in Africa, namely:

The Libyan military region is responsible for the defense of the Libyan region, with a total strength of about 23,000 troops;

The East African Military Region is responsible for the defense of Tanganyika, Rwanda and Burundi, with a total strength of about 28,000 troops;

The West African Military Region is responsible for the defense of Namibia, with a total strength of about 22,000.

The total strength of the Bulgarian army is still as high as 655,000. If the navy (76,000) and air force (68,000) are added, the country's total strength is as high as 799,000!

This total force is still considered high among the great powers, far surpassing Britain and France, but Ferdinand still approved it.

There is no way, no matter how small the army is, it will not be enough, unless you learn Britain and France in the colonial areas and form colonial troops to maintain order, but it will not work in Bulgaria.

Unless Ferdinand gives up the localization of the colonies, any increase in the local armed forces of the colonies is prohibited. The current British and French colonial forces will also be the main force to overthrow their colonial rule in the future.

Out of such considerations, Ferdinand still decided not to teach the locals to use guns. Even if there is a rebellion in the future, the police will be able to suppress the riots if they use big knives and spears!

Don't doubt that the chiefs in this era really have very few firearms, and they can't produce them themselves. They can only buy a small amount of equipment for their cronies to use, which poses no threat to the regular army.

Perhaps after the colonies are cleared, the Bulgarian army will disarm again, and the navy and air force will not move, but this disarmament is limited to tens of thousands of people, and the final total force of the country is still impossible to be less than 700,000. Can't sleep without Ferdinand!

The distribution of the navy is even simpler. The main fleet is directly divided into three: the Persian Gulf Fleet, the Mediterranean Fleet, and the African Fleet.

The main fleet is still the Mediterranean Fleet, with half of the capital ships, followed by the Persian Gulf Fleet, and the African Fleet is only responsible for soy sauce.

This is determined by geographical location. For example, Libya does not need the African Fleet to be responsible, and the Mediterranean Fleet will be responsible for their safety.

The same is true in Somalia. The Persian Gulf Fleet is responsible for maritime security in this area. The final purpose of the African Fleet is to guard Namibia and Tanganyika, several African port cities that are still under planning!

Compared with the navy, the air force is much more active. Airports are spread all over the country. Anyway, the requirements for aircraft are not high in this era. A hardened plain is an airport.

Even in order to strengthen the control of the place, Ferdinand is still considering equipping each company with aircraft,

When the time comes when the military region demands a meeting, the generals can be called together in a few hours, and a local rebellion can be put out with fire.

This idea was made by Ferdinand in combination with the actual situation in Bulgaria. First of all, there are still a large number of aircraft in the hands of the Bulgarian Air Force. Once the war is over, these aircraft can only be retired. After retirement, these aircraft can only be scrapped. Good use.

It is impossible for the civilian market to take over these more than 30,000 aircraft. Private airlines have just started. Except for transport aircraft, there is no way to deal with fighter jets and bombers. Capitalists will not buy them, and Ferdinand will not dare to sell them. !

Secondly, the maintenance cost is simple and cheap. The performance of the aircraft in World War I was not good.

Another thing is that fuel is cheap. Bulgaria is unlikely to be short of fuel anyway. The government can purchase fuel at a very low price, and the cost is not much higher.

...

Marshal Imya Dimitev has been having a headache recently. Ever since His Majesty Ferdinand inadvertently proposed the idea of deploying aircraft to the company at a staff meeting, the military generals have come to him one after another. come.

There is no doubt that the Army definitely supports it, and the Air Force naturally opposes it. Once this plan is completed, the Air Force will have nothing to do in future colonial wars.

To deal with the indigenous rebels in the colonies, any aircraft is black technology, so there is no need to worry about anti-aircraft firepower.

A company has an aircraft, a regiment is a flying squadron, and a division has a flying brigade. In future wars, they don't need to call for air force support. The number alone can kill the enemy.

...

Army Minister Popov asked unhappily: "Your Excellency, Chief of the General Staff, what is your staff hesitating about such a good thing?

Is the Air Force putting pressure on you? Impossible, Yimiya, you are not a coward, those brats in the Air Force dare not threaten you, right? "

Imya Dimitev's face darkened. He really wanted to say, besides the army department, would anyone else dare to threaten the chief of staff?

Imya Dimitev asked unhappily: "Popov is enough, am I still thinking about it? Do you think I don't want to equip the aircraft to the company?

But is the question that simple? What about logistical maintenance? What about the crew? What about the cost? As long as these problems can be solved, the planes are ready-made and piled up in the warehouse, and I will mention them to you right away! "

Popov said calmly: "Our army is not picky, as long as it is an aircraft, whether it is a fighter jet or a bomber, even a transport aircraft is fine.

The crew, aren't they all ready-made? You can drop from the Army to the Air Force, why can't you transfer back to the Army from the Air Force? They are all Bulgarian troops, but without that law, internal transfers are not allowed!

As for logistical supplies, don't we have oil fields? Can't you just buy it at the direct cost price? At worst, I will do their work myself, and I believe that capitalists will support our work! "

Imya Dimitev searched his forehead and said: "Impossible! None of you can move the crew of the Air Force, the staffing of the army cannot be increased, and the military expenditure cannot be increased. If you can do it Equip it when you arrive!

You don’t have to worry about the planes, we have some off-the-shelf, all of which are produced by our own military enterprises, the quality is guaranteed, and you can find someone who wants after-sales service, the rest is up to you! "

Popov gritted his teeth and said: "Well, anyway, our army is going to order this batch of aircraft, so it's okay to let the Air Force help us train them?

We don't need to train fighter pilots, as long as we can fly planes, I can't do it. With so many people in our army, we can't get together more than 10,000 pilots! "

Imya Dimitev asked worriedly: "What about the logistics staff? Do you want each company to train a crew?"

Popov smiled and said, "Why do we need such a complicated plane? We only need the simplest plane, and send the repairmen in the army to train. Isn't it the same to repair a car and repair an airplane?

As for the other crew members, of course ordinary soldiers are allowed to work part-time. What's wrong with learning a little more knowledge? Don't forget that the knowledge level of our army officers and soldiers is very high! "

Imya Dimitev has to admit that Popov's idea is still somewhat feasible. The knowledge level of the officers and soldiers in the active-duty Bulgarian army is indeed not low. At least they have graduated from primary school, and even if they are lower, they will all retire. go home.

If they are allowed to study, it is really not difficult to train a group of logistics personnel. The only troublesome problem is funding.

The problem of pilots is automatically ignored. With the huge base of the army, it is really not a problem to train a thousand children and eight thousand.

Imya Dimitev said helplessly: "Well, I agree!"

Anyway, if you don’t increase military expenditures or increase the establishment, let the army to toss it yourself. If it fails, it will waste a batch of aircraft, and if it succeeds, it will make a lot of money.

After gaining the support of the General Staff, Popov immediately took Imya Dimitev to find Ferdinand. There is no doubt that he will cut the mess quickly and settle the matter.

...

It will be Ferdinand's turn to have a headache. Is it really that simple to assign planes to the company? If so, it is estimated that many countries in later generations have done this. Fighters with hundreds of millions cannot afford it, and helicopters with millions of dollars will not be short of everyone, right?

Ferdinand asked calmly, "What about the airport?"

Regardless of the fact that he proposed it first, they will definitely support it. In fact, Ferdinand only had this idea, but he was not sure whether this idea was correct, so he mentioned it unintentionally and let the Bulgarian military decide. !

Imya Dimitev thought for a while and replied: "Your Majesty, ordinary aircraft do not have high requirements on the airport. It is enough to add a few runways in the camp of the military region. The cost will not be too high!"

Ferdinand nodded. Of course, the construction cost is not high. It is a matter of hundreds of tons of cement, but the land does not cost money?

He asked again: "Have you solved the problems of personnel, logistics, and military expenditure?"

Popov replied cautiously: "Your Majesty, don't worry, we can train personnel by ourselves, and the army will figure out how to spend military expenses, but we hope to get goods at cost price for logistics procurement!"

Ferdinand thought for a while and said: "The production of the aircraft is the responsibility of the state-owned enterprise. It is not a problem to get the goods at the cost price. I can also find a way for you to purchase fuel, but for other costs, you have to figure out the way yourself!

In addition, the problem of the airport is still very troublesome. If it is in a colony, you can enclose the land by yourself, but it is not possible in the Balkan Peninsula. We don’t have so much land for you to use! "

After a moment of silence, Popov replied: "Yes! Please rest assured, Your Majesty, we don't need to be equipped with companies in the Balkan Peninsula, as long as we are equipped with divisions!"

Ferdinand shook his head and said, "No, what I mean is that the deployment of aircraft to the company is only implemented in the colonies, where the land is sparsely populated, you can fiddle with it, but not in the Balkans, in case you do something When something happens, it will be troublesome!

Just to ask, how do you plan to solve the increased military expenditure? "

Just kidding, the main purpose of Ferdinand's proposal to assign aircraft to the company is to strengthen the supervision of the colony and limit the birth of the emperor.

But the Balkan Peninsula is different. The army is already very powerful. If it continues to strengthen, the air force + navy may not be able to balance. Ferdinand doesn't like anything that breaks the balance of power!

Popov knew that Lu Hang's dream was broken, and Ferdinand's meaning was very clear. The status of the Air Force would still not be shaken.

By the way, more pilots can be trained. If the speed of the aircraft in this era is not free to control, Ferdinand would have promoted agricultural aircraft long ago.

Fortunately, the idea of re-establishing Lu Hang was not very strong in the Lu military department, and this time it was just an attitude of giving it a try, and it was expected to fail.

Popov replied honestly: "Your Majesty, our Army Department plans to open up several farms overseas, and strive to solve the food problem of the local garrisons within three years, which can save a lot of military expenses!"

Ferdinand nodded. As early as during the World War, the Bulgarian army was preparing to enclose land, but the places they were optimistic about in advance were sealed off by Ferdinand as fiefdoms later.

Now that they are planning farms again, they are also forced out. Since the restructuring of state-owned enterprises, the military and the government can no longer participate in commercial operations. Except for agriculture, they can only wait for financial allocations.

Fortunately, Bulgaria has a lot of land now, and they can go overseas to enclose land. The government can only pay attention to the Asia Minor peninsula at most. In Africa, even if the army encloses all the land, no one will bother.

In this regard, Ferdinand is also happy to see the results. It is not easy to open up those areas in this era. If the military is willing to open up wasteland, it must strongly support it!

Ferdinand smiled and said, "Well, then I wish you good luck! I will personally sponsor you another 100,000 tons of fertilizer, and I hope you can come up with the results soon!"

Ferdinand didn't care about how the army opened up wasteland. Anyway, he didn't think the military would honestly farm the fields. Maybe plantations would appear in the Bulgarian colonies in the near future.

Anyway, the army will not be short of labor force. The British and French predecessors have already set an example. There is no reason why they can't learn!
