Bulgarian Empire

Chapter 40: , Labor issues

Since 1888, Bulgaria launched the five-year plan, and the railway is the top priority. Regardless of whether it was the Stam government era or the Ferdinand era, no matter how the domestic situation changed, it did not interfere with the normal construction of the railway.

In order to ensure the smooth completion of the railway project and to save money, during Stam’s time, he began to send criminals to construction sites as coolies.

Stam’s cabinet allowed the police to run rampant. At first, it was to crack down on competitors, but later it was to raise funds. It did not mean that it did not mean to find a batch of cheap labor.

With the unfolding of the rehabilitation work, many wrongful and false unjust cases in the Stam period have been investigated, and a large number of innocent people have been released. The railway project is now facing a shortage of labor.

Although Bulgaria cannot be called a vast territory, it is a fact that it is sparsely populated. Although a large number of peasants went bankrupt before this, due to the advancement of industrialization, they have almost been digested.

Given the options available, few people are willing to build the railway, even though the railway workers are paid more.

But the railway project at the end of the 19th century was equivalent to a death project, and work-related accidents couldn't be more normal. Even if someone is forced by their livelihood, they can't do it, and if they have a chance, they can make another living.

Now Constantine is worried, there are not enough workers, even if he has sent all the criminals to the construction site, the personnel gap is still serious!

There was no machinery, and coolies were indispensable in the age when they were all carried on the shoulders. In order to complete the work on time, the engineers gave a staggering number, requiring at least 50,000 workers.

When this number was reported, Constantine was dumbfounded, which means that there is still a shortage of 40,000 laborers.

There are only more than three million people in Bulgaria. It is simply difficult to get so many railway workers together. Since there is no other way, it can only continue to report.

Chekov, who was on duty in the cabinet, welcomed an uninvited guest. Constantine came, and he also brought the engineer.

Chekov was confused when he saw Konstantin and his party, and asked wonderingly: "Konstantin, what's the matter?"

Constantine didn't care about the daily routine, and went directly to the subject, saying: "Mr. Chekov, I came to you today mainly for the railway problem."

Chekov asked seriously: "What happened to the railway project?"

   "No!" Constantine said affirmatively

Chekov let go of his hanging heart, and said, "God bless, it's fine if nothing happens!"

"But it's worse than that!" Constantine's next sentence confused Chekov again.

   "What's the matter?" Chekov asked

"Let the engineer talk to you!" Constantine said embarrassedly

Chekov said depressed: "Well, everyone says it's the same!"

Chief Engineer Lauren Holman said with a stern face: "Dear Mr. Chekov, now the railway project is going well, but we are in big trouble!"

Chekov heard this, and was even more puzzled. Now that everything is going well, what can be the trouble? Immediately asked: "What's the big trouble?"

Lauren Holman replied rigidly: "We lack enough labor!"

Chekov felt relieved and asked, "How much is missing?"

Lauren Holman said calmly: "To ensure the smooth completion of the project, at least 43,000 workers are needed, and the project budget must be increased by 50%!"

"What? How is this possible? This is too far from the original plan?" Chekov said in disbelief

"Mr. Chekov, please trust our professionalism! These are the results calculated by our technicians after actual measurements!" Lauren Holman said cautiously

Chekov was still in disbelief, and asked in confusion: "Sorry, Mr. Lauren, I am not questioning your professionalism, but the gap is too big!"

"For this, I can only say sorry. At that time, we underestimated the traffic environment in Bulgaria. While building the railway, we had to invest a lot of manpower to repair the road, and the construction of the Rila Mountains was extremely difficult. Imagine!" Lauren Holman explained

After listening to Lauren's words, Chekov's face suddenly changed color. He knew that this was really a big problem, a big problem that was beyond the cabinet's ability to solve.

I saw Chekov smile wryly and said: "God bless! Konstantin, you really brought a big trouble!"

"Chekov, I don't want to!" Constantine said embarrassedly

This is too much trouble. Whether the five-year plan can be completed or not is also an important factor in whether the temporary cabinet can be turned into a positive one.

Chekov thought for a while and decided to report to Ferdinand. He is not optimistic that the railway plan can be completed smoothly. With the current situation in Bulgaria, it is impossible to gather so many labors in a short period of time.

Ferdinand, who has just been free, is enjoying dancing in the palace. Several beautiful girls are performing to their heart's content, and the costumes are all designed by Ferdinand himself.

Clear and transparent, the top is rough, and the long legs brushed underneath are so alluring and beautiful. Ferdinand doesn't mind having a day of prostitution when he is interested. UU reading www.uukanshu.com

This not Ferdinand has just captured the master of a dancing girl, and is about to go further. Suddenly Alice walked in and said shyly: "Your Excellency, Mr. Chekov and Mr. Constantine are here, and by the way, they brought three strangers!"

Ferdinand was a little unhappy and said, "I see, I'll go right there!" Ferdinand let go of the woman in his arms, looked at the shy Alice, suddenly smiled badly, and frightened Alice quickly. Just run.

In his previous life as a single dog, he was very decent after crossing Ferdinand, but it was quickly corroded by the noble life. Although it has not yet reached the point of promiscuity, at least the nobles' uncovered conventions, Ferdinand who is afraid of getting sick, have not participated, and of course the women around him have not missed.

Thinking that there was still business, Ferdinand decided to let Alice off first and strode towards the main hall.

Seeing Chekov and others, Ferdinand who was unhappy did not give them a chance to speak. Because Lauren Holman was invited by Ferdinand, he met once, so he knew what was going on when he saw him. Ask directly: "You are all here, but what went wrong with the railway project?"

Seeing that Ferdinand was in a bad mood, Chekov didn’t dare to sell him. He immediately said: “God bless, the railway project is going well, but now we lack labor!”

"Oh!" Ferdinand responded and waited for the following. It’s commonplace to lack labor when building railways. It’s nothing strange, but it’s not normal to come to him for this small problem.

Chekov thought for a while, but bit the bullet and went on: "According to the calculation of Engineer Lauren, we still need at least 43,000 workers to complete the project smoothly on schedule!"

After hearing this data, Ferdinand said in disbelief: "What? You guys tease me! Still need so much labor?"
