Bulgarian Empire

Chapter 141, the end of the war

On November 16, 1894, the helpless Serbian government finally compromised, and the foreign minister in Vienna reluctantly signed the treaty!

So far, the second Bulgarian war has come to an end with Bulgaria's total victory!

The treaty states:

1. Serbia recognizes the defeat of the war and takes full responsibility for the war;

2. Hand over the main war criminals in the First Bulgarian War;

3. Cessation of Serbia to the south of the Morava River, including Niš, about 18,000 square kilometers of territory to Bulgaria;

4. Pay the Bulgarian war reparations of 230 million levs. Considering the financial difficulties of the Serbian government, the assets of the Serbs in the territory south of the Morava River are used to offset the war reparations;

5. After the peace treaty is signed, the Bulgarian army will lift the siege of Belgrade within 24 hours, and all withdraw from Serbia within one month;

6. After the signing of the peace treaty, the Bulgarian army shall hand over all prisoners of war to the Serbian government within three months;

7. The Serbian government promises not to take any measures against Bulgaria and to ban all radical organizations;

...

The Armistice Treaty has a total of seventy-eight clauses, covering various matters, large and small.

But what really involves the core interests are Articles 3 and 4. The treaty legally clarifies Bulgaria's ownership of the Moraval River territory, as well as the ownership of property on this territory!

Other treaty contents, in Ferdinand's view, are more like making up the numbers!

For example, in Article 1, Serbia admits defeat and takes responsibility for the war. If it loses, of course, it must be held responsible. Admitting defeat is not just talk, who will take it seriously? If there is strength, who can guarantee that the Serbs will not fight back!

The second article is purely hilarious. The war criminals in this war do not ask questions, but pursue the last war? And there is not even a specific list, isn't it just pretending?

Articles 5 and 6, not to mention the long-term blockade of troops stationed in Serbia, is it really annoying to be a foreign power? Unlike the mountains and hills in the south, the north is the sphere of influence of Austria-Hungary. If Ferdinand hadn't lavished money in Vienna, it is estimated that even the military management would not be able to do it!

Not to mention the handover of the prisoners, the hundreds of thousands of people who eat, drink, and sleep every day are not a small expense. Considering the international public opinion, and they can't be used as coolies, who wants to do it for nothing?

Article 7 Banning radical organizations, how Ferdinand thinks, seems to be signed for Austria-Hungary. Isn't this creating an opportunity for them to annex Serbia?

...

As soon as the content of the treaty reached Sofia, Ferdinand immediately approved it! I have got what I can get my hands on. For other details, just give in!

In contrast, the Serbian government is much more hard-pressed, everyone can't avoid it, and no one wants to get involved with this!

Alexander I was not a fool either. Why should he fight against such a big pot? If you want to hide, then let's fight together, no one wants to run away, make a collective decision!

Whether it is a member of Congress or a government official, as long as there is one in Belgrade, they must sign and agree! It doesn't matter if you're not there, authorize your family to do it for you!

So a funny scene appeared. After the Serbs took the treaty back, they had to add two more pages because there were too many people who approved the signature and not enough places to sign!

As soon as the treaty was established, the Bulgarian army lifted the siege of Belgrade and began to withdraw.

The Serbs, who had just breathed a sigh of relief, were not happy for a long time before troubles followed!

There has been a long-standing conflict between the Bulgarians and the Bulgarian army still doesn't mind giving them a little trouble, although they have ordered the withdrawal of the troops!

For example, there was a fire in a certain city accidentally, which happened to burn down the granary and household registration information; another example was the loss of a batch of seized weapons in a certain place,

It just happened to be picked up by some anti-government organizations...

Anyway, the Bulgarian army hurriedly withdrew, and the Serbian government was not notified to come and receive it, and then the local order became chaotic.

Especially those who have just migrated and immigrated, no one cares about them. Now they are more typical proletarians, with no assets, no jobs, no labor, and most importantly, no food! ! !

But they only have weapons, and although they are just pieces of scrap metal, they are weapons anyway, right?

If you don't have anything to eat, you can only find something to eat! But I can't find a living, so what should I do? Of course it was robbed. Anyway, if you have a weapon in your hand, go grab it from the local residents!

Anyway, living people can't be suffocated by urine, and there is nothing they can't do when they are hungry! !

By the time Serbian officials arrived, many cities were already in a mess, and a series of crimes such as murder, robbery, and rape emerged one after another!

According to the statistics after the event, the chaos caused by the lack of order has brought more losses to Serbia than the Bulgarian army when they attacked!

Alexander I, now I don't know whether to cry or laugh!

Due to the invasion of the Bulgarians, Serbia was tossed to death, making his throne unstable; also due to the mess left by the Bulgarian army when they left, no one dared to take over, and no one plans to launch it now. Coup d'état, he still sits on the throne!

From the declaration of war to the end, it took only 38 days. In fact, the time for the main battle between the two sides was even less, only one week!

Serbia is completely ruined! Financially, the dinar is not as high as the price of papyrus. In the age of the gold standard, currency without gold reserves is just a pile of waste paper!

In domestic politics, everyone is a loser, the Serbian government is a mess, whoever takes over will be unlucky! That being the case, let the unfortunate government continue to do it, and take care of the troubles you caused yourself! !

After pressing Alexander I in a hurry, he finally chose to ask Austria-Hungary for help. There is no way that the Serbian government can't even stabilize the domestic situation!

At the very least, there is no way for the people to solve the problem of eating themselves!

As for the conditions, there is no need to mention it now, the boss can do it, I promise everything, save the younger brother first!

At this moment, it is the Vienna government's turn to suffer again. The Serbs have sent it to the door by themselves. Should they annex it? ?

The current situation is that the Serbs want money, food, and troops! You read that right, in the absence of supplies, the Serbian government has no ability to send troops to stabilize the place at this moment!

The problem of feeding hundreds of thousands of people needs to be solved urgently. If this problem cannot be solved, all means will be in vain! !

In the end, it was Franz Joseph I's decision. No matter what happened later, let's control Serbia first! !
