Ch38.2 - The Rules of Raising a Dog-Type Boyfriend (8)

While waiting for their orders, Xu Qichen told them about him meeting Ning Zheng.

Upon hearing, Mu Yao was irritated, “I really hate it when they take photos of me and even post them online. I knew something like this would happen.”

“Then you should burn that face of yours off,” Qi Meng retorted heartlessly.

“That guy doesn’t seem like a simple villain, be careful, don’t let anything slip.”

Hearing Xu Qichen’s warning, Mu Yao nodded. Qi Meng joined in to nag, “Senior is right, I heard a student in X University, a spider, was reported by his dormmate. He was captured two weeks ago and has.been locked up since then.”

Xu Qichen frowned, “And what happens after being locked up? When can he come out?”

Qi Meng shook her head, “I don’t know. But amongst the people I know, those who have gone in never come out.” She laughed self-deprecatingly, “Our status is quite low. Once a human reports us, we will be locked up regardless of whether we have ever harmed a human. That’s why we’re so careful around humans.”

For a moment, Xu Qichen felt so bad that he did not know what to say.

“But senior, this Ning Zheng that you mentioned, he’s really famous, we’ve heard his name before. Last month, he caught a whole pack of leopards who regularly collected protection fees on Rat Street when they injured some humans.” Qi Meng pinched the straw and stirred her carrot juice, “He seems to really hate us demons and he’s really fixated on locking us up.”

After thinking for a while, Xu Qichen said, “Actually, humans and demons are alike, there are good ones and bad ones. He’s just prejudiced. No matter what, you all have to be careful.”

Qi Meng’s ears, which had been drooping, immediately perked up. Her eyes shone, “Senior, you’re such a good person! I…”

“No matter how good he is, it’s none of your business!” Mu Yao interrupted rudely and pinched her ear.

Xu Qichen noticed that Yu Cang had not spoken the entire time. Thinking that it’s not good to leave him out, he softly repeated for him, “Xiao Cang, you also have to be careful, okay?”

Yu Cang looked up at him, then nodded, starstruck, “Th-thank you, Senior Ye Han.”

“Don’t worry,” Mu Yao seemed to be trying to comfort Xu Qichen, “he wouldn’t dare to do anything to us without solid evidence.”

Mu Yao was right. As per Xu Qichen’s settings, in the early days, the Heretical Population Administration had iron fist policies that hurt many innocent demons and even humans. That met with people’s opposition. That’s why they now needed to gather sufficient evidence that proved that the target was a demon and posed a threat to humans before they could take any action.

There were many ways to prove that someone was a demon. The most straightforward was to force them to show their true form, or by blood test.

Later, this Ning Zheng would stop at nothing to prove that Mu Yao was a demon.

Xu Qichen glanced at Mu Yao. Indeed, Mu Yao’s aggressiveness was innate. Unlike Qi Meng and Yu Cang, he completely matched Ning Zheng’s idea of an ‘inherently dangerous’ demon.

The waiter once again flew over. He put a glass of fruit juice in front of Xu Qichen, then flew in front of Yu Cang and placed a small plate on the table.

Autumn was fast approaching. The cool night breeze made goosebumps rise automatically on his skin.

Just like how Xu Qichen felt uncontrollably happy when they were alone together.

The lights of the campus had been turned off. They walked under the moonlight, one behind the other. Xu Qichen’s every stride stepped on Mu Yao’s long shadow.

Thinking of Mu Yao and Qi Meng’s childish squabbling earlier, Xu Qichen thought it was interesting and couldn’t resist commenting, “You and Qi Meng get along very well.”

Mu Yao stopped walking suddenly, making Xu Qichen bump into him.

“What is it?” Xu Qichen rubbed his hurting forehead.
Did he say something wrong?

Mu Yao was frowning, “Senior, my relationship with her isn’t the kind of relationship you’re thinking of.”

Xu Qichen was stunned. After understanding the meaning behind Mu Yao’s words, he laughed, “What relationship am I thinking of?”

“Anyway, she and I don’t get along, don’t misunderstand.”

“O.”

“What does ‘o’ mean?”

Seeing that Mu Yao was getting anxious, Xu Qichen decided not to tease him anymore, “I’m not misunderstanding. I know you don’t like her.”

“How did you know?”

“I just know.”

What’s up with that confident tone?
Mu Yao lowered his head and smiled.

This late at night, it was just the two of them on the campus grounds.
He could feel something bubbling inside of him.
It was the ferocity of his desire, silently rising until it was about to overflow.
He glanced behind him and saw Xu Qichen’s clear eyes.
For a moment, he really didn’t want to resist anymore.

In the following days, nothing alarming happened. Xu Qichen did not meet Ning Zheng near the school again. On the other hand, Yang Xiaocheng went out early and came back late everyday, so they barely saw each other.

Then one day, he didn’t have to do overtime and came back early, but it was only to pack up and move into a rented apartment.

“It’s too tiring to travel from school every day.” Even the energy he put into complaining had been reduced greatly, “And with all the overtime I’m doing, I can’t even sleep well. If I move closer to the company, then at least I can use the time travelling to sleep instead.”

Xu Qichen silently moved some meat from his plate to Yang Xiaocheng’s.

“Have you sent out your resume?”

Xu Qichen nodded, “Yesterday I had telephonic interviews with two companies. I think I did okay. They called me for face-to-face interviews this afternoon.”

“Jiayou!” After encouraging Xu Qichen, Yang Xiaocheng sighed, “Then we will have even fewer opportunities to see each other.”

“There will be opportunities. We’ll still be in the same city.”

Even though he was not the real Ye Han who had lived with Yang Xiaocheng for over three years, in these short couple of weeks, Xu Qichen had felt the warmth of friendship from him.

The interview in the afternoon was not as difficult as he had expected. Maybe it was because the company was new and the boss was a young man who was new to being an entrepreneur. The team was very energetic and the HR conducting the interview was very friendly and did not intentionally make things difficult for him.

Xu Qichen was not very good at speaking, but he always gave others a sense of trustworthiness. Plus, Ye Han had a foundation in programming and Xu Qichen had worked hard to build upon it, so the interview went by relatively smoothly.

The second interview was for a big company. There was a long queue of interviewees. The process took more than three hours. By the time he got on the return train, it was already night.

However, the very next morning, he received a call from the first company informing him that he can start his internship there.

Xu Qichen happily ran to the canteen and ate two bowls of wonton.
The only unsatisfactory point was that the company was not very close to the school. Since he was the only one left in the dorm, after some consideration, Xu Qichen decided to find a suitable apartment to rent before starting work.

In his real life, Xu Qichen had already had the experience of looking for a house by himself, so it did not take him more than a few days to find an apartment and pay the deposit. It was in an estate diagonally opposite from the company. Xu Qichen rented one of the rooms in the two bedroom fully furnished apartment.

However, when it came to moving, it was not a one person job.
Xu Qichen immediately thought of Mu Yao.

But Mu Yao got angry when he found out that Xu Qichen had not told him about the internship sooner.

“I was busy these days, so I couldn’t tell you immediately,” Xu Qichen explained seriously. Noticing that this did not make Mu Yao any less angry, he added, “It’s a little late, but you’re still the first person to know about it.”

When he saw the corners of Mu Yao’s lips twitch, Xu Qichen subconsciously glanced at the top of his head.

Although it was just his imagination, it felt like a pair of ears twitched.

He actually really wanted to pinch his ears. Last time, he had missed the opportunity because he had been too afraid.
Next time, he will definitely pinch it!

Because of Mu Yao’s help, the process went by smoothly. Xu Qichen suddenly felt that, although this guy was four years younger than him, he was truly quite reliable.

The room was full of boxes. Xu Qichen squatted down and sorted them out one by one. Feeling hot, he found the remote control for the air conditioning amongst the myriad of items on the bed and turned it on. But nothing happened.
He looked up and realised that it was not plugged in. The landlord had even put the plug on top of the air conditioner.
It was too high.

Mu Yao was repairing a stuck window.

He can do it himself. He’s self-sufficient.

He moved a chair beneath it and climbed on it. He reached up and felt around. His fingers barely reached the top of the air conditioner but he found the plug.

“Done, but we should change the window. I’ll buy a new one and change it for you ba.” Mu Yao turned around and saw that Xu Qichen had climbed up a chair. He immediately shouted, “Come down! That chair is broken! I was about to fix it!”

Too bad, he was just a second too late.

How should he put it?
In every love story, things were always just so coincidental.

Due to the loose screw moving about too much, one of the chair’s legs finally broke with a loud crack.

Unprepared, Xu Qichen fell down, right into the arms of Mu Yao, who had run over to catch him.

Under the influence of gravitational acceleration and a subtle pull of destiny; in a rare case of rather active position, Xu Qichen kissed the corner of Mu Yao’s lips.
