Chapter 390: The Battle of the Holy Acropolis (Part 2)

Todd poured a cup of coffee for himself and Mary, and then he sat down in a chair and listened to each other's words quietly.

Mary took a sip of the bitter drink, sighed vaguely, and said in a low voice, "I always feel that it's been a long time since I last tasted coffee."

"If you want, I can send an army right now to send you back to Muxi City." Todd held the mug, feeling the temperature from the wall of the mug: "You should know that my original intention is not to let you participate in this war."

Mary focused her eyes on the swirling water in the cup, shook her head and said, "I know what you want to say, but I can't leave there now. The hope and pleading in the eyes of those soldiers and people looking at me are like unbreakable silk threads, tightly binding me to the throne of the Holy Acropolis, and I can't go anywhere..."

Todd's eyes were a little dim: "Mary, I'm sorry."

"If you are sorry because I have to take on the responsibility of the queen, then I can tell you now that there is no need." Mary took a small sip of coffee and looked at the man opposite: "If you are apologizing to me because of another matter, I will gladly accept it."

Todd has gotten his head up: "Another thing?"

Mary put down her glass, fixed her eyes on Todd, and asked in a deep voice, "I heard that you refused to accept me as the queen of Muxi City."

Todd smiled wryly. It has been almost four years since he came to the different world, and he still can't accept the straightforward way of speaking of Westerners.

"I did say that, but for some reason..."

Mary leaned forward and asked, "Is it because I was married?"

Todd replied with a headache: "No, it's not, you listen to my explanation..."

Mary continued to ask: "Is it because my appearance makes you dissatisfied?"

"No, your appearance is very outstanding, but..."

"Because of Rachel?"

Hearing the name that came out of Mary's mouth suddenly, Todd was taken aback, his body froze, and he stopped all his movements.

Seeing the look on Todd's face, Mary closed her eyes gently, and said softly, "I see."

Mary, who fell into great frustration and sadness, made Todd feel pain for no reason. He moved his chair towards the woman and whispered: "You may not understand that in the future, there may never be a queen in Muxi City."

Mary opened her eyes in shock: "What do you mean by that?"

Todd thought for a moment, organized his words, and said slowly: "After the battle of the Holy Acropolis, if we win, then Muxi City will inevitably carry out religious reform. I believe you know this."

Mary nodded.

"The so-called religious reform is to create a third denomination on the basis of the original Heavenly Father's Church and the Orthodox Church. I call this new denomination "Music Protestantism".

Mary was still a little confused when she heard this: "Then, what is the relationship between the establishment of Protestantism and the absence of a queen in Twilight City?"

Todd glanced at her, and said only one sentence: "The first pope of Protestantism, who do you think it will be?"

Mary's eyes widened, and she understood everything at once.

Indeed, as Todd said, if Protestantism is established, looking at the entire Muxi City, no one has the same influence as the king, and Todd can only sit on the throne of the Protestant pope.

Then, as the pope, it is naturally impossible for Todd to marry a woman like a secular king.

Seeing Mary's stunned expression, Todd sighed in his heart. He only told her half of some things, and the other half was so cruel that he couldn't tell her at all.

"Your Majesty, if this is the case, then I understand your good intentions." Mary looked distressed: "But don't you consider the matter of your children? Could it be that you plan to be lonely forever?"

Mary's words made Todd ponder.

Todd thought to himself, he only had sex with two women, one of them was Rachel, who had made it clear that she was infertile; the other was Deirdre, what about her situation?

"Your Majesty, Your Majesty!" Mary's voice awakened Todd who was in deep thought, and she asked, "If you have no heirs, who will inherit the future of Muxi City?"

Todd scratched his head: "The issue of inheriting the throne of Muxi City may be more complicated. I can't tell you clearly now, but you will know later."

Mary looked at Todd for a long time, and finally nodded: "Since you have said so, then I will not ask any more. What I want to tell you is that if you really become the pope, then I promise you that the Holy Acropolis will be the first to convert to Protestantism. And I, as the queen of the Holy Acropolis, will choose to serve the Holy Spirit and God for life and will not marry again."

"Wait a minute! What do you mean no more marriages?"

Todd was about to ask Mary for more details, but the other party drank the coffee in his cup, turned and left the soul space.

Looking at the empty seats, Todd stroked his hair with his hands, sighed, and said helplessly, "In the end, it was still my fault..."

The Battle of the Acropolis, Day 1.

Standing at the top of the city, Cumberland looked towards the enemy line with the newly invented high-power binoculars in Muxi City, frowning.

"Today, if I'm not mistaken, it should be a tentative attack." Cumberland put down his binoculars and ordered to the adjutant beside him: "Inform all armies that when the enemy is approaching, put them into the middle defensive circle before launching an attack."

Watching the adjutant take the order, Cumberland moved his arm, feeling the dull pain brought by the keel parasite bone hook, and said unhappily: "This worm armor is good for everything, but this hook makes people uncomfortable!"

"Lord Cumberland, today is the day of war?" Queen Mary, dressed in military uniform, walked up to the top of the city, came to Cumberland's side, and said to the enemy.

Cumberland turned sideways and suggested to Mary in a low voice: "After the battle starts, arrows and stone throws are unknown threats. You'd better go back to the fort and wait for the result."

Mary brushed her long hair blown by the wind with her hands, and said with a smile: "If my appearance can boost the morale of the army. Even if this kind of encouragement can increase our chances of winning, this risk is nothing to me."

Seeing that he could not persuade the other party, Cumberland simply gave up the verbal dispute, and asked, "After we left yesterday, did you and Your Majesty talk about...?"

"I asked."

Cumberland raised his eyebrows in surprise: "What does His Majesty say?"

"He convinced me, and for good reasons, that I can't refute."

Cumberland's eyes widened: "How could this be? Could it be that His Majesty insisted on letting that woman in?!"

Mary looked at Cumberland, smiled and shook her head: "Things are different from what you thought. According to His Majesty's plan, there may not be a queen in Muxi City at the end."

Cumberland shook his head incomprehensibly, and roared in a low voice: "There is no queen in Muxi City? Do you know what you are talking about? What do you mean?! Did you tell His Majesty about the future of Muxi City..."

"My lord, the enemy has launched an attack!"

While Cumberland was talking to Mary, the heir to the scout who was in charge of monitoring the battlefield issued a warning.

Cumberland, who was interrupted by the battle, shook his beard angrily, and put on his helmet rudely. While muttering something in his mouth, he gave Mary a back gesture, and strode towards the observation deck.

Seeing the back of the old knight leaving, Mary's originally calm face showed a confused expression. She said in words that only she could hear: "But there is another possibility... In the end, there will be more than one queen in Muxi City."
