Identifying Ge Kiln is actually very simple. As long as the four key points are correct, there will be no problem.

First, it is true that the Ge kiln glaze is a matte glaze, with a "butter"-like luster and rich colors, including beige, pink-green, and milky white.

Second, the pattern of "gold wire and iron wire". The glaze surface of Ge Kiln has mesh-like openings, which may overlap like ice cracks, or become fine and small openings ("Cucheng Baijun Sha" or "chafer pattern"). Take "Golden Iron Wire" as a typical example, that is, thicker black cracks intertwined with fine red and yellow cracks.

There is this description in "Ge Gu Yao Lun" of the Ming Dynasty: "The Ge Kiln pattern is based on cracked ice and eel blood, followed by plum blossom ink patterns. Fine broken patterns are also below the pattern."

Sun Yingzhou, the forefather of the ceramic industry, said in his article "Identification of Porcelain of the Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties" that the bubbles in the Guan and Ge glazes are densely packed like "beads", which means that the bubbles in the Ge kiln glaze are as dense as small water droplets, all over the vessel. on the table.

The most important reason why official kiln porcelain is difficult to imitate is that it is difficult to imitate.

Last but not least, the style of "purple mouth and iron feet", the body of Ge Kiln wares is mostly purple-black or brown.

The thin glaze on the edge of the mouth of the vessel is yellow-brown due to hidden lines revealing the body color. At the same time, the unglazed areas on the bottom and feet appear iron-black.

From this, we can conclude that there is a saying of "purple mouth and iron feet", which is also one of the traditional methods to distinguish genuine Ge Kiln wares from fake ones.

The above four characteristics are all matched on this plate, so there is no doubt that this is an authentic plate from the Ge Kiln of the Great Opening of the Northern Song Dynasty.
